I’m SO much older than you, so I feel I can say this…you are precious! So enjoyable to watch. I love your videos, and I respect they’re a lot of work to upload. You’re fabulously talented and ridiculously creative, and I so enjoy your content and your art and especially your excitement when do something different. The more you progress in your art journey, the more media you explore, the more I love watching. You’re a special gem in a sea of YT talent - don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! Thank you for uploading so much great content - I really feel like you help a lot of budding artists, and Lord knows we need more artists.
These mono-tone portraits are SO GORGEOUS 😍 your style in vivid colors across the page... so cool and trippy all at once. I feel super inspired to sketch now. 😊
I don't really like to draw or sketch anymore, I'm often too hell bent on wanting the the drawing to look exactly like the reference, and holding out for higher quality art supplies instead of mastering the ones I already have😂. Think I'll get back into the stylized art I did as a kid, it was more fun and freeing. Those sketches were awesome, more videos on sketching would be lovely, keep doing what you're doing Bean💕💯!
did you draw every single day? if so, that can also lead to art block and not feeling like making art anymore because you’re sick of it. i had to learn to take breaks because there were times where i hated drawing but i didn’t wanna stop altogether so i started taking breaks. no matter if its a long break or a short break, you’re still considered an artist! i hope you get back into it at some point!
@@jnoelleart Yes I drew everyday when I tried to do the 2020 Inktober challenge. Every since then, I started to dislike drawing, even though it was a while ago lol. On top of that I'm always trying to make every piece flawless, so that also ruined the true concept of sketching and sketchbooks for me. You're right about that, drawing or painting every day, can cause stress and disinterest, learned that the hard way. Thank you very much, these unrealistic expectations that they put on us as artists often do make us feel unworthy, but everyone needs a break every so often🥰💯!
@@edwardhisse2687 The references aren't the problem, my impatience, and struggle to draw proportions and facial features accurately- sometimes- is. Ditching the reference every so often couldn't hurt though and might help, thank you!
I think you make a great point where there needs to be a balance between using references and not, and building confidence by sketching as a warm up absolutely helps to prepare you for larger pieces and projects. Drawing is an exercise and just as you'd warm up at the gym you gotta warm up before really getting to work.
I almost cry when you said you feel so bad for those artist who can’t sketch without a reference. I just feel like I’m not improving or gaining confidence at all. It makes me so sad and everyone keep saying there great but I know that it isn’t. Idk what to do
"Meet me in the woods." I beg your biggest pardon??? Man, I went from somebody who used a reference picture once in a blue moon to literally being unable to draw without one. And it is miserable. I hardly ever draw anymore, spend hours reference hunting just to get frustrated....it really is no fun anymore :/ I'm trying to get back into sketching but its so demoralising as well cause you have to relearn that skill, that lightness and spontaneity all over again. Those faces turned out dope and may I add that your outfit is so amazing?!! Especially love the blue long face on the left, just tickles my fancy :D
Aphantasia = no visible memory = almost always needing a reference. However, with photoshop today and all the digital tools we have access to, there are ways to overcome it by creating the visual picture before rendering it. Agreed though, would love to be able to draw anything I can imagine from my mind.
since a few years I sketch now. And i improve a lot. I get more confident and experimental :) Furthermore it helps me to form my art style. Your sketches are amazing ^_^
Haha, I can relate to the left handed smear problem! I love sketching (even though I'm a beginner artist who still heavily relies on references) it developed my own art style, and I never realized it until I went and looked back at my older sketches!
The difference between a sketch, drawing, and doodle for me is; a sketch is the rough idea of something you want to make, usually ending in a final piece. A drawing is the final piece after the sketch. A doodle is more mindless or random lines that you think look good.
I just want to say I love watching your videos. I like to watch your videos for inspiration and entertainment. This video has helped me get back into my creative side. I just want to say thank you for posting these great videos I truly enjoy them You are so fun to watch.😊❤
Old schooler here. I dig the colored pencil sketches done without looking at a photo. 👍🏼 I’ve been trying that and Dang! It ain’t easy. Good news is practice makes you better. Keep up the good work young man. Love your work.
i wish your videos were longer, ahh ! i really appreciate your personality and your teachings. as an artist myself, its nice to see someone on this platform that spreads good information and not anything toxic. you are lovely ! thank you for what you do ❤ also ! difference between a drawing, sketch, and doodle in my opinion... drawing - a completed artwork done in drawing mediums such as graphite, chalk pastel, coloured pencils, and whatever else. sketch - just something messy, loose, using your visual library to draw, or to draw what you see and study. doodle - just a lil doodle, what else can i say ?? usually no reference, just messy stuff lol
Sometimes before drawing I do the exact thing that you do, but not shading my figures, just creating a bunch of blobs and adding character to them. It makes me somewhat happy, that my creativity is there. Thank you for this video, from now on, I will add shading too.
I've been following you on insta for a while but only recently started watching your youtube channel and it has changed my life. I had this same conversation in the week with a colleague of mine. She's a realism artist, and is amazing. But she admitted she cant draw without a reference. She's not confident enough to just sit and draw from her mind. This conversation was happening because i was sketching after watching a bunch of your videos and was drawing from memory and changing it to fit more what i do. It was utterly liberating and she was amazed.
The monochromatic faces gave me an idea you could do a page like that but each face on the page is a self-portrait in a color and facial expression that portrays a different mood or emotion.
I tend to draw out of the blue but are challenging myself to use references more. Mostly for sharing/lighting or anatomy. Just stepping into drawing humans and not just horses. They are hard! So much more to learn. Love watching you create! Now let see if your sponsor has horses in their thing.
I love that you used color pencils to sketch. I mainly use color pencils and just seeing you draw using them is really nice. Granted I love your oil pastel works, but it was kind of a confidence booster (for me) seeing you use the pencils :D Love your work!
You’re so funny and inspiring and creative! You’re honestly one of the only artists I care to listen to because of your genuine care for other artists creativity. Seeing you make art helps me with art block and make more experimental pieces :) Love you and your work ❤
You're so true on sketching. I love to sketch or do warm-up sketches to get into the creative groove and help continue improving my drawing skills more, I do use references sometimes...but I still largely rely on my imagination & techniques I learned and rarely copy the exact subject I'm referencing from.
I absolutely love you. You are easily my favorite human to ever exist. I don’t have very many people in my life, and I had a really tough childhood that was devoid of love; As a result, I often find myself completely caught up in the motions in a completely robotic state. But, when I watch your videos I feel the grayscale of my everyday life become enriched with all the vibrant color you radiate. I know that I have no idea who you are, or what you go through, but I just really wanted to acknowledge and appreciate how much joy you bring to me. I’m sorry if this all sounds like a crazy person (I am crazy, like diagnosed) I just felt like I had to leave something. I wish you literally nothing but the best, you’re a goddamn King/Queen/The whole damn royal family. P.S. I have sketched everyday since this video, and am finally getting back into the habit after being stuck for the past few months.
I love you, your style, your colors you use. I am tempted to try your style for fun without comparing my results to yours. I am a terrible sketcher because I've only done realism. I'm gonna give it a go because it would be easier for me to do a Bean style sketch vs realistic and have fun. Your characters make me smile and they always look like they are about to utter something profound or funny. Keep on sketching and thank you for your inspiration Mr. C.
If you would’ve told me to meet you in the woods. I would have not met you because I thought we would’ve been to windmills it’s a fight but the words that came from your mouth is like getting out of your comfort zone grabbing a piece of paper or your sketchbook and just go for it sometimes you need to do that in order to get out of the funk that you are in, sometimes it just takes a little circle to color it in and you can create a whole picture. I appreciate the words of encouragement I needed that today.❤❤❤❤
I LOVE the colors you chose!!! I certainly would not have been able to tell which face you started with, but I love the different angles, proportions, and facial styles. From far away it almost looks like they could be stamps.
Also would love to see you try out the oil paint sticks at Blicks. Just saw a review of them on Mira Bylers channel and they are super creamy. Bet they would blend like 🧈 in one of your portraits pictures. U can also use them with a paint brush for small details. I think you would make amazing things with them. 💜

First time viewer here. This is...just helpful! I've been having a couple months of just really bad art block. All I want to do is draw or paint but basically do anything to NOT do it. Search for references for hours or get distracted with art videos. But damnit if your blob heads didn't inspire me to just sketch randomly and without reference, I'm stuck using reference to practice and I really need to get out of this habit. I just put some stuff on the paper and see what happens!
Thank you for posting this. I have been in the mix of having trouble with painting. I have to agree with you that sketching helps break that art block and build skill over time. I feel this vid, I’m def one of those people who can’t create without a reference and it deters me from ever picking up a pencil. I really should just go for it more and stress about making incredible art off the bat because it’s just setting me up for failure. I think sketching is very important, it is a spark of one's imagination. Question for you: If you own Arteza and/or Arttx oil pastels, will you please do a review on those. I came across your channel just now and subscribed when I was looking for reviews on these two oil pastels. Love your art, and Thanks.
I love how, even though the blob people aren’t “realistic”, I know someone who looks like that or has the same vibe. Even the multi-faced blob - it’s like a time-lapse of the way a person’s face changes while they are talking.
Have you sketched today? ✏️
Not yet...but I will!!!
Yeah!
I'm fixing to!
