    Got the original PST when I was 14, accidentally dropped it in the Ocean but was able to see the metal reflection on a calm day, so I got a hold of a pair of very big speakers from a scrapper, took out the magnets and tied them to a very long fishing line (grew up in a costal village where long lining is very common) and I managed to get the magnets to catch the leatherman, and I still have it and use it regularly now 20 years later... It's been along with me to many different countries around the world.

    I still believe the Rebar is the best Leatherman pound for pound. It’s only $20 more than the Bond but well worth it for the locking tools and beefier pliers. I own a Bond and think it is a decent tool but it gets zero pocket time. On a side note, you inspired me to add scissors to my Rebar and it is now perfection for me.

    I carried a PST since the late 80s, loaned it to a coworker who broke the plier tip. Leatherman replaced the broken tool for free with a new PST. Carried it for another 20 years and worried how I'd replace it if I lost it. So, when the Bond came out, I immediately bought it. I now have the original PST and the new Bond. I now carry the Bond with the pocket clip, and have loved it. If I wear pants that don't work well with the pocket clip, I get the old PST in it's custom sheath to wear. Perfect combo.

    I’ve carried a bond since the release. And I absolutely love it. I’ve never had an issue with the “blade movement” but I’m glad that leatherman did address then issue. I DO wish the bond came with a saw instead of the file.

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Interesting, I use mine as a urban EDC and if I want a saw I'll carry it with a SAK which has one. Plus I always carry a SAK with scissors as well as the Bond, as it lacks those and I use them more than file, saw, or pliers. I wish LM would release a Bond mk 2 with the addition of scissors and the woodsaw.

  • @0neTwo3

    LOVE THIS !! I bought a Bond early on ended up shortening the blade and making it a sheeps foot to avoid accidents. I like the Bond, but never bought another due to not wanting to have to mod again to get rid of a problem that shouldn’t have made it past QC in the first place..
    I will probably buy one or two more now!

    I really like my Bond. Everything works and I've never had any problems with the blade sticking out when folded. Like the weight and comparative compactness. The quality for the price is outstanding. For the general amount of use it gets it will out last me easily. If I take it into the wilderness would miss a notching saw but have 4 SAKs with one and folding scissors in my med kit already. The real test of any knife, multitool or most outdoors items (after a good amount of use) is if you lost it would you replace it as soon as possible? The Bond, definitely.

    I have an old Super Tool that was from my uncle's stuff when he passed away in 2011 and it's been part of my EDC since. It's very similar to that survival tool but it has a lock (you have to open one of the other tools partially to lift the lock). Yeah, that micro flat head is really messed up. I really like the toolset of that bond, that file and the phillips driver have me sold, I'm going to have to wait for the local retailer in my country to have stock.
    On another note, that super tool with that same design wasn't the first one I had. Back in 2003 I found one under a bridge lying next to a pile of fish guts, the handles were so loose you could flip it like a Balisong. I've never spent any money on actually buying a Leatherman so when that Bond is back in stock I'll finally pay for one for once.

    The curl is where it’s at. One handed locking blade and scissors. Hear you on victorinox for sure. Comes with pocket clip. Better file by leaps and bounds. Still light. Bit driver take it or leave it, but you will eventually trash the Phillips on the one you are showing if you use it. @ptstouring49 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@maxlvledcI waffle on that. On one hand, I like a “real” PH2 screwdriver, on the other hand they wear out and that renders the multitool much less useful. The flat bits are ok (especially if you swap in the PH2 PH1 bit as opposed to the one with the Phillips 1 and 2 hybrid and 3/16 that comes in them), but a real driver or even real bit they are not. Hence I have been pocketing that matador recently. PH2 and 1/4 slotted in about the lightest usable form factor and has 8mm and 10mm nut drivers (I think that’s what they are, I have not used them). Sometimes you need to poke or prod something. 😂

    I don't normally pocket carry the Bond and it's not a standalone tool for me as it lacks scissors. I did buy and fit the Free series pocket clip to it though. However being in the UK it's the only Leatherman in production now, apart from the Rebar knifeless (which wouldn't be a standalone carry either as it lacks a blade), which I can legally carry. I generally carry it in a bag, in it's pouch alongside which I squeezed in a 4 inch Bahco adjustable spanner/wrench (original vintage made in Sweden), and in my pocket I have either the Victorinox Climber or Farmer X, as I do need and use scissors on a regular basis.

They are those stranded hard steel wire cables in the hoses (1.2-1.6mm thick). I notice Supertool 300 and Surge has the stranded wire cutter but their size is huge for EDC on a mountain bike ride. Please do recommend me an affordable light weight model that can do the job of cutting cable cleanly on the trails. Thanks.

It's akin to a Supertool disguised as a child's toy. While the Bond might include one or two less practical tools, merely to fill the quota, every tool on the Leap serves a practical purpose. Additionally, the Leap's pricing is quite reasonable, likely attributed to its toy-like appearance, which doesn't compromise its functionality.

    I think out of all the leatherman tools you have to have the supertool 300 and the rebar as the best value for money. They are just simply great. I love my surge but it’s not exactly 50$ better than the supertool.

    Great review Max! I’ve yet to acquire the Bond but it’s on my radar. To me so far the Rebar is the greatest bang for the buck. So much functionality in one package 📦 and still available and not too overpriced. Looking forward to getting a Bond and seeing how it compares. Thanks for posting this!

    I’m only at 0:24 and haven’t read any of the comments, but you said something cool that made me want to “predict” what model you are talking about. You’re not saying best value, so that rules out the cheapest options. And a slipstream change that makes the tool better? That could only be the removal of the crimper on the Charge pliers. I don’t remember which models had that, but maybe only the titanium ones? So I’m guessing Charge TTi, in which case YAY! My favorite (although I went out of my way to get the crimp head version after they made that change).
    Edit: boy was I wrong. Still gonna watch.

    When I want to go low profile and simple, I’ll leave my Charge+ at home and carry my Bond. It’s not too flashy. Not as meaty as my Rebar, but still a very capable tool.

  • @PoorWays
    @PoorWays 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The Rebar might have a design flaw and possibly the Bond due to the similar handle design. When applying a decent amount of torque to the screwdrivers my Rebar handle would twist open so wide that the locks would pop out of the tool. It happened soo many times I retired it. Being that the Bond has nearly the same handle but no lock I'm not sure how it'll perform under medium to hard torque but just thought I'd share the experience with the screwdriver.

    For me it's a bit of a mixed bag, but I'm coming around to the Bond pretty quickly. The Bond that I bought is pretty rough around the edges (literally) pliers started extremely stiff, file rips your hand if you crank down on the pliers because it protrudes slightly. I think that I was expecting the tool to be as perfect as it could be out of the box because it's a Leatherman, and this was far from the case. The new style blade has a pretty crude grind and is thick behind the edge. However after some filing/sanding pretty much all of my hangups with it are gone, and it feels like an extremely dependable and light multitool, and much better value than most Leatherman models.

    I have the PSTII that I have carried for years in the compact leather sheath. I guess I thought “multi”tool meant I needed a dozen of them Leatherman, Gerber, Sog, etc. my PSTII remains my edc. Speaking of the file, it has the diamond side with the groove for fishhook sharpening and deem it a necessary multitool option. Knife steel sucks unless it is at least 154cm.

    I have had a Wave V1, and then Wave+ on my belt everyday pretty much since they came out with it. I think it would be fun to buy these other models, but I can't imagine carrying anything other than the Wave, other than maybe a Charge, on my person, so it would really be an inefficient use of limited funds for me. Especially since wages haven't been raising with this rampant inflation.

    I really love my bond and have had zero issues with it.
    I noticed the changes to the bond on their site a few weeks back and was surprised that they didn't mention anything about it.
    I think they should have made the blade a sheeps foot or coping blade instead of whatever the hell that is, but otherwise I would still call it a perfect multitool.
    Personally for me the Bond is the only model leatherman currently makes that I'd ever buy or recommend ( I'd probably recommend the rebar I guess ) , I consider introducing the rebar to be the only good decision they've made in the past 15 years.
    I truly hate every other decision they've made.
    Btw I've noticed that they changed the file to that weird tanto tip looking file from the rebar, but it's not in any of the stock photos .
