    I have similar content on my channel. I just got hit with a bunch of “violations “. They got all my Galil-AK Hybrid videos. I had to privatize everything else. So prepare yourself. Someone out there is looking for this kind of content.

      I never saved a copy of mine. So the Galil Hybrid ones are probably gone forever. I am appealing them . But I doubt the blue-haired freaks will egree.
      So either privatize or make some backups.

      There are similar groups around the world. Look at those huge statues that the Talaban blew up a few years ago. They are also akin to book burners, if they don't like something it must be destroyed.

    Nice work. Looks good. I found copper is the way to go instead of aluminum. Much cleaner. I did my first art project with a mig and I ground for days. No backers. No tig Just a couple different grinding devices and a 140amp mig. Runs like a champ. But not my finest art. I found extra fine sandblasting media covers slight imperfections before coating and makes for a beautiful finish

    I found that lightly clamping the front stub with the ram of my 20 ton shop press and using a pipe wrench with a three or four foot cheater bar was very effective for removing barrel stubs. For the ones that I really had trouble with, well, that's why I've got a mother-in-law to apply extra weight with.. I found the shop press wasn't the type to do the jitterbug like my bench and vise were prone to.

    • @bluekouki86
      @bluekouki86  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am personally fond of making the relief cut because you can remove the stub with a crescent wrench or channel locks. No sketchy cheater pipes required.

    • @oldfarthacks

      I do agree that it is better to cut away to relieve the pressure on the threads. The only time that I will not do that is if the tubing being removed is to be reused in another art project.

    I got my galil sar parts in the mail today. I'm not having a lot of luck finding a jig so I'm just gonna do my best with using the pins and top cover to start my tack welds and use some straight pieces of metal and clamps to keep the rails straight so it doesn't warp in the process. I guess the sar has no right side relief lightening cut and the crest on mine is just a circle with the y shaped character on the safe selector. I was really hoping to have the crest and the lightening cuts since all the after market receivers don't have it.

    I’ve taken a semester of welding and did learn TIG, I’m mechanically and artistically inclined. Do you think this is something a patient novice could do or would I be better off paying $500 for a piece of art?

    • @bluekouki86
      @bluekouki86  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here is my advice. If you have the machines to perform this kind of work I’d get on some websites and buy scrap cut sections and practice welding them together. It won’t take long and you’ll be ready for the real deal. Remember it is steel if you mess up, grind it out and start over. Most shops performing this kind of work are backed up for months if not years.

    Still working on my TIG chops with non-gun stuff or cheaper easier to replace gun frames (M11/9, for example). What is your target amperage range on Galil (or really any milled AK-type) receivers if you had to give a number? I'm a bit nervous right now to just throw on the max amperage on mine and go at it even with a foot pedal.

    • @bluekouki86
      @bluekouki86  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the nicest parts of TIG welding is having the ability to constantly change the amperage via a foot feed. I personally can’t tell you what max will be needed because of so many variables in every project. Just like a car you don’t have to use all the horsepower all the time.

    • @provenancemachining
      @provenancemachining 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bluekouki86 So pretty much reference the amperage per thou of an inch in work piece thickness, set amperage to max on the welder, and try not to fuck it up too hard? I better weld up a few more practice coupons, then.

    • @bluekouki86
      @bluekouki86  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@provenancemachining I think you are overthinking this. I don’t do math or numbers when I weld. Just watch what’s happening and put your inputs in accordingly. You’ll get the feel if it’s too hot or cold with practice.

    • @provenancemachining
      @provenancemachining 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bluekouki86 That's fair and most likely what's happening. I just finally managed to weld up poorly drilled holes on an AKM sheet metal reciever today, so maybe I can give it a go on a spare galil receiver.

    • @bluekouki86
      @bluekouki86  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@provenancemachining perhaps a quick welding tutorial video related to receivers is in order. I’ve got several more kits to weld so I could do one. I can get somebody to run the camera so you can see what I’m doing.

      ER-80s 3/32” fill rod. Torch cut can effect heat treat, that’s why not all kits are suitable for reweld. As long as the heat has been kept away from the locking lugs it’ll be fine.
