That’s a 10 speed automatic not a 8 speed
Ugh. Dumb mistake. Thanks for catching it!
Unfortunately they cost so much that it makes more sense to keep my old 2014 tundra 4.6l, only 137k kms on it
I bought my Tundra 3 months ago... I'm loving it! The low end power is insane
Are you hauling a trailer? If so how is it?
I just got mine 2 months ago and I love it as well!! I wouldn't trade it for any other truck tbh... I keep looking and still nothing has made me regret my purchase. I actually came from a Camaro and the Tundra has plenty of power to where I don't miss it one bit.
@johnabel6792 Thank You for your response!
I will keep my 2010 SR5 4×4 5.7 . It has never let me down !!!
I'm in the process of looking to buy a new truck, and the Tundra is at the top of my list .
Good luck to you. No half ton today is worth a Damm. They are just pretty technical, overpriced junk
Drive one, you’ll like it. Better in every way. Actually, do what I did and drive the last generation before you test drive the new one. That’s all it’ll take.
@Pieate….. Also, I think the EPA successfully strangled the half ton trucks with the boa constrictor-like ever tightening environmental requirements. Their tests favor turbos for emission so turbos are taking over.
The only positive example I see in this segment is the GM 3.0 L Duramax diesel. Yes it has a potential flaw with the location of the belt but otherwise looks like a great engine. Other than that, the half ton field is dead for me. If I want a good dependable engine then it’s Heavy Duty trucks. Ford, GM, Cummins.
@is6566 My dad used to say if you want a real truck anymore, the 3/4 ton and up is the way to go. But I know people that are having problems with them all brands . Thanks to the EPA with the 💩they dream up.
@@josefgerken4002so they will pick the last gen, right? Awesome v8, way better built, better turning radius, half the price but will outlast a new one, more back seat room and larger rear door opening.
Great video! Couple things I caught though, the engine is really a 3,445 cc so 3.4 not 3.5 even though that's really minor. Also the Hurricane engine replacing the 1/2 ton RAM hemi is a straight 6 TT not a V6.
Would have no problem with the Tundra if they gave us the stellar Toyota Torsen center diff so we could run 4Auto (and even low range unlocked center - no binding!), and gave the Hybrid some generator capability.
With those I can live with the low value and other basic trimmings.
I have a 23' and i do get some rattle noise when going over bumps. Other than that, i enjoy getting in it everyday and just going! I owned 2, 5.7s in the past and i feel just as confident with this new power train as i did those. Plus, the added benefit of more power and better mpg. The new gen Tundra is a solid truck that will make anyone happy if they just give it a chance. Good review fellas!
I own a 2023 TRD Off Road and so far so good.
The power train is awesome.👍🏽
And so UGLY....yuck
I bought a 22 tundra and the bed was a little slippery. After hauling and shoveling a few yards of mulch and a few yards of loam the shine and slipperiness is pretty much gone! Great video! Thanks, Lauren C. From Ma.
Terra w/ the all black interior is my favorite, followed by Lunar Rock with the red interior and then the Solar Octane with the black/ cream interior.
Dude … love the channel and reviews 🍻🍻🍻
@Truck King because of you channel I will be looking at the Tundra, I like the style and the hauling capabilities of this unit. I am new to the truck market never owned one.
I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised how livable driving a 1/2 ton is day to day. Plenty maneuverable, very comfortable and so capable in city and highway driving. Plus the amazing versatility with hauling cargo and of course towing. Just prepare yourself with the sticker shock of fuel costs … which can’t be avoided with driving any truck. Worth the trade off for what they’re capable of.
Great video. Hello from New Caledonia Kanaky
Great job man.
Great video gents!
I'm curious about how it rides with its multi link rear suspension compared to trucks with leaf springs
Love the look. Love my truck
Any issues with the hybrid battery in the arctic?
Voodoo blue is a nice color
Before the new Tundra came out, I was all in. When they announced the prices, I fell out. The price increase was a lot more than I expected, so instead of a new Tundra, I bought another 1 year old F-150. I'm still considering the Tundra, but it will most likely have to be a used one to fit into my price range.
Best looking truck out there. 🔥
I don’t believe any twin turbo v6 is going to last as long as the big v8 engines that came before. That little v6 is running hard to get that performance. My 2007 v8 is not working hard even with a load on it. I hope I’m wrong and they can run for 15 or 20 years, but we’ll see what the years have to say.
Actually, mine does not run as hard as any V8 I ever had.
Very low rpms per speed, even towing.
The driver's mustache matches the Tundra's lol
I think Toyota did a great job focusing in the most important aspects of an vehicle, the powertain. The 3.4 V6 has tons of low end torque and the 10 speed is very smooth. I think with time this will prove to be a very reliable powertrain. The lack of v8 is unfortunate but not surprising. However, I think they missed some important details found on the competition. The integrated bumpers, lack of tow hooks, no pro-power system on hybrid, and lack of integrated bed step are all misses.
Agreed! Im getting older and regret not having the bed-step on my tundra.
Don't forget about transmission cooler. Toyota is following the in crowed . They would rather sell gadgets than quality. Any truck without a transmission cooler is a red flag. I don't car what the manufacturer's say.
@@PiratePete-te8qp None of the new trucks have a dedicated transmission cooler. GM/Ford 10 speed transmissions and Toyota all now use fluid heat exchangers. By heating the fluid from a cold start you get better shifts and higher mpgs, although I do agree and wish they would include a dedicated cooler for peace of mind when towing heavy.
and the multi use tailgate
the tundra has a transmission cooler@@PiratePete-te8qp
I wish it came in a long bed. I like the offroad capability for getting to camp but I need a larger bed to haul all our gear.
You can always modify a 6.5 footer
@@phenyl yes. Just cheaper as options from the factory rather than aftermarket.
I have a 24 pro and i love it to death, no issues at all and i plan to keep it for 1 million miles lol
I just bought a 24 platinum and I love it as well. No issues yet so far
I love my 2023 Tundra but miss my 6 ft box will trade in for 2024
I have the same one and I am loving it
I love my 2022 Tundra. Yes, 10 speed..not 8. My motor did blow at 32,00km. I bought mine brand new. No warning signs, just died on the road. Toyota put a brand new motor in, they paid for everything. No issues since. This happened in 2023..1 year after owning the tundra. I have the Limited crew max. It does haul amazing.
Like Terra, but haven’t seen it in person so guessing pics don’t do it justice. SOLAR OCTANE ALL THE WAY BABY!
Had the composite bed in my Tacoma and loved it.
With no front tow hooks.
It's a bummer but I dont think a big deal at all. I suspect the vast majority of owners will never need to use them. For the rest, I'm sure modifications can make it happen.
@@ALMX5DPIt's not just a bummer, it's ridiculous.
@@imnotusingmyrealname4566 I guess just depends on perspective and preference, but I feel my point remains.
I haven’t had front tow hooks on my 2017 Ram. I could buy them and put them on. But in all my years of hunting and camping I haven’t needed them - so I save my money instead.
@@Lq32332 I have never had a truck where I didn't use my front tow hooks. They are extremely useful for recovering other vehicles from ditches and snow banks.
Need to make that hybrid available to all trims
I like the colour. The blue is my favourite colour though
My tundra is scheduled to be built next week…i can’t wait! After having a Ram with the hemi lifter tick, a silverado 2500 with oil consumption issues, and currently an expedition max with the terrible 10spd nightmares i’m glad to get into something i have confidence in its reliability even though it’s a newer platform…it’s still a Toyota
Plenty of videos on youtube showing faults with the Tundra , plus Toyota reliability went out the window years ago. Their petrol engines may be okay but their diesels have plenty of problems .
I own a 2023 tundra I bought in 2022. I've had mine for 14 months. No issues at all. Don't let the haters scare you.
You must think we were born yesterday Josh.......
@@cwqrpportable I don’t understand your comment. On a per volume basis the vehicles with issues are lesser percentage with Toyota than a lot of other manufacturers. Toyota also uses just in time manufacturing so defects are fixed quicker.
ha ha ha, I babied my SRT 6.4L like changing oil every 3-5k. Dealer services for its life and blew the engine after 123k Cylinder #5 lifter/cam😮 They’re a known problem and all will fail!!
That color is beautiful
Right? Damn.
Tundra is assembled exclusively at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas (TMMTX) in San Antonio.
mt 22 TRD Sport was problamatic, but ny 23 TRD OR has been fantastic so far. I love driving it every day.
@Truck King any word on when you'll be driving the new ranger?
Next month.
I wonder if Toyota has fixed the main bearing issue that I’ve seen here on TH-cam?
When your Dad kicked it down i could hear how good it sounded for a v-6 and she was definitely pulling hard which i could also tell. All in all, i would say it's a hit with me.
Was it the pumped in audio you heard?
Actually, I bought mine with a factory lift and 35" tires off the lot. With bedliner sprayed bed, which is heavily textured.
There is no "factory lift." Maybe the dealer installed one.
Voodoo blue was my favorite or that tan one
I love my 2023 tundra.
20-21
I know the Pro-4X is no longer available in Canada, but you guys never did a video on that even back in 2020. Why?
Rear coils don't belong on anything but a pre-runner as far as trucks are concerned. I also can't take Toyota seriously as far as pickups are concerned when they don't offer anything over 8,500 lbs GVWR. Half tons have become play vehicles and the people who work their trucks have moved to class 2b and class 3 (or higher).
Toyota decided awhile ago that they don't want to make a 2500 class truck and up -- they could, they own Hino, but they don't feel it's worth the investment I suspect. Had they convinced CAT to make them a diesel, you'd probably see a 2500 and larger Tundra.
@@LoneWolfSparty CAT stopped making on road diesels a while ago. Also, Toyota doesn't do all that well competing in the 1/2 ton segment.
@@rich7447 I know they did. They tried to convince them when they were still in that business. And being completely honest, Americans in general don't buy non domestic half-ton trucks. The Big 3 put the majority of their product development money into trucks and it shows. Toyota spends their money on cars and small/midsize SUV's, as well as their hybrid system; that's what they're known for.
People ALWAYS complain about new styling. The V6 TT with 10 speed makes more power, better MPG and feels better to drive. If I had to guess, I'd guess 95% of the complainers haven't driven one, the rest are the 'wait and see' on reliability crowd.
Drove one thought it was shit lol. Roof line is too low for me. Previous trucks were 4.0 Tacoma 3.5 Tacoma TRD and 3.0 Duramax 1500.
@@brandontierney9489 You thought the engine and tranny were shit or just the roofline, seating, etc? I can't imagine that someone would prefer a 4.0 Taco (I had a 4.0 FJC and 4runner, same drivetrain) with the 5 speed auto over the 3.5 and 10 speed.
Bring back the T100!!!!!!
Awesome Review
But don't like that Toyota doesn't offer non hybrid version on the pro
Keep it simple
That's the main ingredient
Tundra is a safe conservative choice. If we look at it feature by feature it lags behind the competition. Drivetrain is solid, v8 aside. Looks are subjective.
I would be more interested in long term reliability! Time will tell. That is more important to me then the new model.
Is there any chance Toyota might bring back the V8?Just started shopping for a new a new truck, the tundra was at the top of my list until I realized they dropped the V8 :(
I think the 2025 Ram 1500 will be a straight 6 twin turbo charged not a v6.
Unreal
By no means the leader in segment.
It's worst in class in almost every aspect.
@@imnotusingmyrealname4566
How so? I think it’s very competitive against ford and gm, and it shits all over ram lol. I wouldn’t touch a stellantis product with a 10 foot pole.
Probably in the aspects that don't really matter. Great space, great power, great tech. It's a solid piece of equipment
@@YerBoyTroy It has the least cab and bed space of any full-size truck. The "tech" is worse than every other full-size truck except traction control. Volume engine for volume engine it has more power than the GM trucks but less power than the F-150. It is the ONLY full-size truck to NOT have a V8 engine available.
I JUST WANT THE TUNDRA TO BE BETTER THAN THE COMPETITION AT THINGS OTHER THAN RELIABILITY.
@@imnotusingmyrealname4566 what do you mean lol? You have an option to get the crew max which has a massive back seat, optional 6.5 foot bed if you need more bed space. I’ll admit the noise piping through the stereo is tacky but that’s only on the pro which no working man buys. I myself wish there was a v8 option but let’s face it the government and EPA are strangling the auto industry with this emissions bullshit. Stellantis has already killed their v8 production, gm is likely in the near future to pull the 5.3 and 6.2 which are already plagued with issues. Ford will probably be the only company that will still offer a v8. Either way the tundra is a great truck, nothing is perfect. If you want to drive a computer with wheels then buy a ford or ram. I like that toyota keeps the infotainment simple and practical.
Does this vehicle require premium fuel?
No.
I’ll take a 2006 Toyota Tundra any day of the week.
It would look a lot better to me if it had the sequoia front grill
I wish Toyota would've kept the 3URFE and just offered a 10 speed transmission to go with it. Might have helped it achieve better mpg.
Great engine
Wouldn't pass the new upcoming emissions while keeping its power without a redesign.
@@LoneWolfSparty the 3URFE doesn't have any more emissions than the V35A-FTS does.
@@jza80king that's not true. And it's the upcoming ones that the 3UR doesn't meet without a rework (unless you're okay with a reduction in power output).
@@LoneWolfSpartydo you have a source on this info? I've never heard any of this so I'm curious.
That redish color looks absolutely awesome. Way better than that orange thing before.
V8’s will disappear in half ton trucks period. CAFE and emission standards have mandated this. V8 engines can’t meet the standards. GM will eventually have to eliminate their V8’s as well. So haters stop crying! Manufacturers aren’t trying to kill your fun. They are obliged to meet the standards. Turbocharged small displacement engines will meet the standards. Will they last as long? The jury is still out. Toyota certainly is able to build a turbocharged engine that will last. Turbocharged diesel’s go a million miles! When there’s change there’s always haters!
All that is happening is that consumers are moving to trucks that are over the CAFE cut off.
My work van is a MB SPRINTER...At 103 000 kms the turbo ate itself
@@mikefoehr235 That can't be normal. Did MB cover it under warranty?
My Cummins ISB (Ram 2500) had 168,000 miles on it with no issues when I sold it.
@@rich7447 We have 12 or more in the fleet. One that guys in waste water drive had a repair bill of $13k from Victoria Star in Kitchener. The worst vans ever made. My coworker has same van...we both agreed that each year one to 3 weeks in the shop
@@mikefoehr235 That's not a good track record. They are small displacement engines for the size of the vehicle, so durability would always be a concern for me.
Is that Kitchener Ontario? I haven't been there since the early 90s.
I guess I am the rare few that just goes 'Meh.' when looking at it.
I’m included, that front grill is hideous
I measure reliability in decades, not years! imo
125,000 to 195,000 IS a MASSIVE GAP. 😃
I honestly think the new Tundra will forever live in the shadows of the new Tacoma. It's a smaller engine, but folks will learn to live with that since the power is very decent and the hybrid engine will be out soon. The Tundra bed is small. The competition offers more options. Payload is mediocre. I'm curious to know what folks think.
That’s really location dependent, I suppose. In rural areas, there’s lifestyle factors and social compulsion to get the full-size
Its obvious that all content creators has ONLY one objective, create content on expensive vehicles out of reach from most of us. Let's be realistic guys.
i think every new car is out of reach these days, unless a person wants to buy on credit...which i have no desire to do. so then its lets plan for the future and wait
They review what the manufacturers give them.
@jordez1 I don’t think any of the 4-5 car channels I am subscribed to WANT to review expensive vehicles. The manufacturers want them to do that to showcase the most features possible (and most profitable for them too). So the manufacturers provide the most expensive vehicles as review loaners.
If you look what the channels purchase for personal vehicles then they are almost never the top end trucks. Howard didn’t buy a luxury truck. TFL usually doesn’t buy a luxury truck (high performance sometimes yes TRX, Raptor). Andrey’s Trail Boss is anything but luxury. Same with all the others.
Be nice if toyota sent you sr5s or limted models...the ones most of us can afford lol
I want the TACO
tundra to expensive
Terra is Terra-ble! I want the army green back!!
Rather have a v8. Doesn't this v6 do similar mpg as recent v8s? If its similar, then the change is moot.
We can all thank the gov for emmission constraints. V8s are soon to be a thing of the past.
Hey guys i love urr reviews … can really say u are bias when tundras are that good, i have own 2000 tundra 2006 tundra, 2015 tundra, and now a 2023 tundra i got back in 2022…. My two cents in the 2023 is the lighting on inside the cab on short winter days the cab is very dark, the other mayor issue is getting on the truck bed… when have the tail gate up u can use the bumper, but when its down and u need to get up its to toe down cargo it is imposible te get on the bed older guys will look like kids in a jungle bars playground. I do construction for leaving so the truck bed gets used on a daily bases
Please let me know if u try getting into the truck with the tail gate down… usually i open the tail gate set the materials in the tail gate or just past the tail gate into the truck, the issue i have is when i try to get up to arrange and tight down the materials 😢
You can keep it, I'll stick with my v8 Tundra.
I think the Ram will be an inline 6 not a V
That grill surround DEFINITELY needs to be in body color. Everything else looks so out of place.
More payload, mpg and I would have bought for the quality and reliability.
I don't really care about the V6 hybrid itself, but do I care about long term reliability and turbos just aren't going to last that long. 100k, maybe 200k miles if really designed well and you don't push the truck hard. Not good. Also the suspension change is just dumb, making this is not a towing or hauling truck. Its cleary designed for the brodozers and grocery store runs , vehicles that never go off pavement or do hard work. But hey, that's what pickup trucks are now I guess, and Toyota will sell alot of them.
I hope Toyota worked out the bugs but they have severe issues like engine failures at low mileage and plagued with electrical issues.
They had a .5% falure rate. Actually lower than other makes/models intro years.
total blah blah
Omg, the leaf spring stuff kills me. I have had a ram with the multi-link and it's like I can care less if it's leaf spring or multi-link the ride is not that different. But now when you get down to towing I'll take the leaf springs all day.
With the correct coil spring weight, they tow and carry loads just fine. The Unimog is a 12 ton truck and it is coils all round.
Got my 2024 Tundra SR5 L with TRD Off-road package what a TRUCK. Before i had a 2017 F150 with 3.5 Ecoboom !!! Lots of issues with the Ecoboom not sad it's gone.
New truck drives and handles really well with upgraded drive train and suspension/frame.... Looks wise... Sometimes fugly, sometimes cool, depending on trim/color/wheels
Who is the best truck?
Black
Test drove the Tundra the other day. Looked good from far, but turned out to be far from good.
The bad.
1. Plastic everywhere! The whole front end and bumper, the rocker panels, the rear bumper, the mirror. Felt very delicate. No way it would survive a jobsite or backcountry.
2. Interior felt nice, but for a $80k truck, no leather...... furthermore the seats felt really short, for and aft as well as height. The rear seats are only good for kids too. For a full size truck this is inexcusable.
3. There's also a tunnel still in the rear floor space.
4. Unreliable. JD Power rates these worse than any other full size truck. Issues with the turbo and electronics seem to plague far too many people on the forums and fb groups.
5. No premium sound in a $80k truck. Stereo was horrible.
6. Toyota dealers think its still the era of covid. Trying to get a bidding war between myself and another buyer. No thanks.
The good.
1. That 3.4L TT makes great power. Felt smooth and transmission shifts were crisp.
2. The infotainment is the best out of any vehicle I've driven.
3. That steering wheel is one an F1 racer could love.
Overall I think the Tundra is lot better than the old unit, but the bar wasn't very high. I ended up with a Silverado Trail Boss LT Duramax.
This video aged like milk on a sunny day in Arizona.
That Cavalry Blue is also on a RAV4 and Yaris🤣
Yeah it's a Toyota color
*only
I'll keep my 5.7L v8.
A hit?
Southern Alberta you rarely see one.
For a long time you didnt see them on the lots.....now theres 6 to 10 on lot all the time.
There's nothing amazing about them, nothing ground breaking.
One day i may even look into buying one.
Its a Toyota.....which is probably why it sells.
Reliability....who knows
The lack of tow hooks continually amazes me.
Are you saying it's worse not seeing them on the lots, or seeing too many of them on the lots? And does a truck need to be amazing or ground breaking?
@@ALMX5DP Well there is a video of a Toyota engineer at the model intro stating that the new Tundra will be ground breaking.
@@Sacapuntas69 and all marketing and advertisement should be taken literally?
Toyota just doesn't give a shit.
@@ALMX5DPI don't know about you but I would feel better if my reliable truck was also oustanding.
Bring back a V8 Toyota! 4.6 modern V8 w/ 10 speed and 3.23 gears.
I'm not a fan of the body. Everything else me like
Too much annoying nanny tech and lethargic response from toyota with issues. At this rate maybe 4 years after a new model they will fix the issues identified right away.
No backseat test.. That sucks!!
NOT ENOUGH PAYLOAD!
6 Banger…. No thanks
No tow hooks and Toyota should increase the hp and tq. 389 hp and 479 ft lbs is not enough.
The hybrid model tested exceeds both those numbers by a long shot. You obviously didn't watch the video.
Plywood is expensive.... cardboard...
Gods I love that color.
I watched this vid to convince me NOT to buy it, but it didn't work😅
I was the previous owner of a 2011 & 2021 Second gen Tundra DC. I couldn't get over the smaller back seat, smaller bed dimension's, no tow hook, no rear bumper, ugly front end and too much plastic. I bought a 2024 Trail boss.
Toyota tundra is the smart decision for Truck
not sure what you mean about selling them as fast as they make them. they are overloaded with them at dealer lots down here in SoCal. Seen more at one dealer than I've ever seen on the road. Overstyled hunk of crap if you ask me. The new Tacoma is better than the outgoing but opposite for the Tundra.
I liked the reserved styling Toyota was known for. Now they are just trying to copycat GM or something. They have lost their way.
