    Ive had the Jupiter for about 5 weeks now. While it felt like a toy to me for me at the beginning, I recently took it on a 3 week long trip overseas as a beater and something I would be ok with losing. Since then it's grown on me so much, I actually do really enjoy it and see it as being a real entry in my collection... its just so damn fun to wear.

    I was pretty hyped about these but not anymore. The lack of online availability has a big part on it. And the more I learn about them, the more I think I would rather buy some nice Casio for the same amount of money, that will feel less like a toy.

    I own a Speedmaster Pro and want one of these too. I think these MoonSwatches are a great idea that bring attention to the brand. That said, I also think Swatch completely bungled the launch by making them exclusive to a handful of dealers. I wouldn’t drive 300+ miles to my nearest Swatch AD to buy one of these, line or no line. Hopefully they cave and put these up for sale online eventually.

    I was on-board with this until Swatch dropped the ball about making them available online. The only way this release makes sense to me is to make these watches easily obtainable. I would have bought several just to have in the collection as a novelty and an online release would have brought Omega to the attention of a whole new generation of watch buyers and enthusiasts. Now it is just an interesting blip on the watch radar that will fade from view pretty quickly without any lasting impact as only those within close proximity to a Swatch boutique can get them. While I think the watches are fun, I will not travel long distances, stand in line, or pay over retail for them. I also don't understand the concern about these cheapening the value of the real moon watch. Yes it is a Speedmaster but it is NOT a Speedmaster Professional.

    Love your videos, but think that saying Omega isn't a luxury watch (but Rolex is) is a bad take. Rolex makes millions of watches per year, any sense of exclusivity is falsely manufactured by the relationship between the ADs and flippers you say you hate. I'm not knocking Rolex, but rather clarifying that Omega is every bit the watch that Rolex is. The rest is branding. Even then, Omega has long been second (recently third, behind Cartier) in that regard.

  • @sylinmino
    @sylinmino 2 ปีที่แล้ว +51

    1. Omega is 100% a luxury brand. Tudor is too. You can call them "Entry-Level Luxury" but that's still in the luxury realm. "Luxury" tier watches start at around 1000-2000 USD. Seeing as that's the point at which luxury-caliber specs start becoming standard--hand assembly and finishing, chronometer ratings, precious metals, advanced finishing techniques (such as the laser etching on the Seamaster dial), etc.--that's where the line should be.
    2. Blame is not just on the flippers, it's on the retailers and brands who build their purchasing systems so easily exploitable by the flippers. There's a reason why Apple, for example, has been historically so good at warding off flippers, even as their products are so high in demand.

    • @BarkandJack
      @BarkandJack  2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      It really is all debatable and it would make for an interesting conversation. With regards to Tudor their own PR team say "tudor isn't luxury, we are a premium brand".

    • @sylinmino
      @sylinmino 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@BarkandJack interesting, I did not realize that about Tudor's own PR team. That being said...I'm not sure if I agree with them lol. Sure, compared to Rolex they're not, but compared to so much of the rest of the industry, they're definitely in a price bracket often considered that. If it's not price that defines luxury watches, what does? I'd be curious to see a video where you really draw a line in the sand about what qualities explicitly define it to you.

    • @kpmcclellan
      @kpmcclellan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yeah, but Omega states they are luxury (check the Wiki and their site). Not sure a premium brand can get away with making a $35k all gold Speedmaster. Also they regularly create watches in excess of $100k. January they released the Canopus gold version of the Speedmaster - which is the most expensive at retail steal wealth watch on the market now .... since nothing can distinguish it from others other than the hidden laser engraved case ... very very few PP or AP, et cetera are made in steel. And we all know Tudor is entry level Rolex and designed as such. Omega guaranteed is not in a competition (other than to sell their own watches) with Rolex or anyone else, they are doing their thing ... always have. And in that maybe you are right - they are more a watch technology company than a status brand like Rolex or AP. Their movements are as accurate as Rolex, but never slow, they use Rhodium, which is more expensive and more durable than white gold, they don't advertise, or push exclusivity as much, since they are watches for watch geeks. Hence, the new CK 859 ... which is in my opinion is the sleeper hit of 2022 (sorry sprite). Keep an eye out for vintage prices shooting up. Speedmasters and Seamaster over the next 10 years will have auction prices increasing by a factor of 10-20. An Alaska project just went for $450k and a tropical speedy hit $3.4 million 6 months ago. Things are just getting started .... if you are in the know. Check out the Davidoff interviews by Wei Koh ... there's something going on and the Moonswatch is just the start ...

    "I hate how much negativity has been out toward Swatch...It isn't Swatch, it's the flippers...don't get grumpy with Swatch, get grumpy with the people who are flipping them." - Oof, Adrian, normally I'm a fan, but this is way off base. Where to start?
    You're right. It isn't the fault of Swatch that flippers are buying watches and keeping them out of the hands of genuine customers, in the same way that PS5s, Air Jordans, and graphics cards end up on eBay and StockX at hefty markups. That's an unfortunate side effect of demand outweighing supply and opportunists seeing a way to make a quick buck. It is what it is.
    But to say that Swatch bears no responsibility at all is a level of drinking the Kool aid I didn't think I'd ever see from this channel. If you take a look at other companies with this problem--Sony, Nike, Nvidia, to name just a few--all of them are at least trying to help their customers. Whether that's anti-bot measures, redirecting stock to different retailers, lotteries, line management systems at store restocks...there's a concerted effort being made to retain genuine customers that just isn't happening Swatch.
    Now, you could argue that this is all part of some grand marketing/PR plan. But, and this comes from someone that works in that industry, the confused communications (online sales anyone?), continued poor organisation at stores, and a general lack of stock suggests that Swatch wasn't quite prepared for this level of interest. That's perhaps short sighted, but it happens. But it's what Swatch has done since that's infuriated customers, which is to say, absolutely nothing. No systems to try and deal with flippers at stores, no bot prevention to allow online sales, nothing.
    That's a poor showing from a large consumer-facing company like Swatch. It has the resources to do better and, if it cares about its customers, it should. Swatch can't stop the flippers and it can't be blamed for them, of course. But it can make life harder for them and easier for its customers.

    I hope they don’t just limit this collaboration to the Moonwatch, this could be just the start of something of bigger cute collabs. They could venture to expanding the concept to the Seamaster Omega x Swatch collab too: there are 31 varieties of the Sea theme for them to think about (e.g., Atlantic, Mediterranean, Red, Baltic, Arabian, South China, Celebes, etc). Another one is Railmaster collab series: the likes of Amtrak, British, Eurostar, Trenitalia, Oriental Express, SBB, etc). Better yet, the Constellation collab series would do great with so many possible variants.

    Omega has always been known as a luxury brand . Same with tag heuer. Even seiko are to some people. If your a non watch person , but wanted a watch to tell the time , you would probably just get a casio. Let's face it, if your spending north of 1k on a watch , it would be a luxury brand /watch to most people. With a seiko sla043 costing £4080 new now, are you going to say that's not a luxury watch ? Because it is. I don't often disagree with you , but your wrong saying omega and tudor are entry level luxury. Maybe to a millionaire Adrian. Buy a solid gold tudor and it will cost you more than a rolex sub , so they aren't exactly cheap brands. I love watches but it's not often I see people with omegas on , or Tudors etc , because you have to be into watches to pay 3k plus for a watch for a start !!!

    Fair enough to state it is debatable whether OMEGA is a luxury brand, its your opinion. IMO what can be seen as ' luxury' is 'Subjective' but not, 'Objective'. You cant really define what is 'luxury brand' but 'exclusivity' yes ,you can, look how Rolex regulates their supply. BUT you CAN'T simply state the brand is not luxury if it is not exclusive, it's the whole different story. Those who earn low wages or salary can see OMEGA as a luxury brand if they decide to spend 90% of their whole year saving on a Seamaster, but some, just like you, with bunch of 'luxury' Rolex, bla bla can see that OMEGA is not luxury just because you can actually but them at retail at anytime without having your name written on the list. It's your EGO to state OMEGA is not luxury. You've had my respect, a Rolex and Omega fanboy,a Seamaster and Submariner owner, but not anymore. You've made a HUGE mistake. ****UNSUBSCRIBED

    Wow! Even Omega is not a luxury brand. That is some statement. I like the way you then went on to show a Rolex though, maybe trying to heavily imply that Rolex is and Omega isn't? Subtle. I am sure if Omega cannot be classified as luxury, then neither should Rolex be, because by most important luxury measures, Omega is slightly ahead of Rolex (If both are priced at their msrp): Rolex produces over a million watches per year, Omega 800k, AP and PP below 60k, FPJ and Mosier, much fewer. If you're talking about grand complications, Rolex is not even in the same league as Omega etc...etc there r more reasons but I won't go into them here. I just feel that this is very bias. Also, the flip price of Rolex watches have been falling in the Far East, and funny enough, everytime this happens, Rolex-mouthpieces on TH-cam always makes some subtle videos promoting the brand. I don't mind this, but, dare I say, trodding on other similar brands in order to elevate a worse one is very disingenuous on your part.
    Anyway, I think whoever came up with the MoonSwatch idea is a bloody marketing genius, it certainly created a lot of marketing buzz, most of my friends now say they will buy the whole set.

    First off I like the moonswatch and I own a 3861. Im not a stupid person nor a watch snob. But for you to say and declare that it is "A Speedmaster" and then call those that say it isnt stupid I think is just silly and completely miscategorizng the entire release of the moonswatch. You've done this as a way to add controversy to the already stupid debate. To me this looks like an attempt to legitimize your video as if your opinion matters above the rest. I personally find this pretty shallow. I'm making this comment because it isn't a speedmaster; this is clearly a novelty item and anyone with half a brain can see that. Am I butt hurt because Omega collabed with Swatch to make a $250 plastic watch that looks like a speedy and has had the title speedy slapped on the dial no. Why do I say that because I know what it is lol and it's not "A" Speedmaster. A Speedmaster is A Speedmaster, I can't even believe we've reached the point that I would have to outline this. This is technically a Swatch Moonswatch. Swatch manufacturers the watch and the collab is taking the design of the speedy as a way of celebration to create the novelty of a Speedmaster, this doesnt mean it is A Speedmaster. this really isn't that hard to understand.

    Gotta call BS on the "it's not swatch, it's not Rolex causing the issues".
    You know how they could fix it? Sell them online with a numbered queue. Rolex could do the same too. Doesn't even have to be online only. You go into the shop, put a deposit down, and get a number in the queue.
    But they both don't, because they want the artificial hype, that they themselves have generated. So they do deserve the hate directed at them.

    ‘Luxury’ is highly subjective
    Having worn a Lorus from Argos as a kid for £16, a £300 seiko is highly luxurious. As is a moonswatch.
    My millionaire cousin used to go through a Rolex a month. A seiko would be trash and a moonswatch a toy.
    Watchmakers ultimately make watches to make money. And this quartz collaboration is a great way for Omega to generate interest for themselves and sell watches.
    For one I think these are fun and look nice. So why not.
    Btw I have a speedmaster professional and I don’t care what people call these, they’re clearly a fun omega watch

Before watch channels most watches were always available. Once watch gurus say Rolex is the watch to get , they become scarce . The same with fuel shortages, tell people that fuel is scarce and it becomes non existence as everyone tries to buy it.

    Bad take regarding flippers. Flippers are incentivised to flip because of the artificial scarcity that Swatch has created, not in spite of it.
