This game was an absolute godsend to those kids who played banjo at their friends house, but didn't have an n64 of their own. That's exactly what it was meant to be; an alternative for kids who didn't have the proper console to play. I miss when games did these gameboy spin offs. Great to have you back, EPG! I remember wanting to play this game when I had a GBA but never getting around to it for some reason. This review convinced me that I wasn't missing much. Might I suggest, at some point, doing a Yooka--Laylee defense? So many people dislike that game, but I saw you praise it in your Banjo-Tooie ROR. I would love to see you do a video review/defense of that game.

Interesting thing about this game, it was originally going to have 6 to 7 worlds not including the Hub. They were taken out due to, "Storage Limitations." There's a playable beta build of this game out on the internet which I assume was from late 2002 or early 2003 because it looks a lot closer to the final's graphics then the e3 2001 version which you can watch a some footage somewhere on TH-cam. The biggest difference in the released beta from what I can assume is from late 2002 from the final is that Freezing Furnace was originally split into 2 levels called Freezing Fjord which was going to be the 4th world and Fiery Furnace which was going to be the 6th world. It's kind of a shame that it didn't make it to the final because those 2 sections of Freezing Furnace were going to be much more bigger and interesting. Fiery Furnace was going to have this huge machine to go inside to explore. Also there was also going to be flight in the game but was cut out due to the depth perception being confusing. On top of that, earlier in development when it was going to be a GBC game called BK Grunty's Curse, there was the 7th level called Mohendra Banjo. It was going to be the 6th level in order between Spiller's Harbor and Fiery Furnace. Luckly a group of people are remaking Banjo-Kazooie Grunty's Revenge into the Banjo-Kazooie engine using Banjo's Backpack with some things from the beta that didn't quite make it to the final called BKGR Redone. Also a BK decomp is on the way so once the decomp is finished, people should hopefully be able to make some quality of life improvements to the Banjo-Kazooie engine on N64 like note and jinjo saving as well as making it more accurate to BKGR with the gameplay like the egg aim. They're also going to rework the story to make a little more sence.
Same thing in java, but worse, and from what I noticed, the weak hardware of cell phones and the size of the games being at most 4MB, is the reason for the scenarios to have less details and worse framerate, running 10 fps.
15:06 - "And while we're at it, let's just get rid of the move unlock system altogether." 16:21 - "I would be fine if the next Banjo game got rid of transformations altogether." So what exactly do you want out of a Banjo game, Exo?
Well, let me put it this way. I think that by Banjo Tooie they did everything they realistically could do with traditional Banjo gameplay. The fact that they were so desperate for good new transformations and even new moves that they had to resort to splitting up the characters and forcing them to unlock basic attack moves kind of spells that out. Then you get to this game and they have no new ideas to expand the formula over Tooie. You get the feeling they were banking on this being portable as the only selling point. If they were to bring back Banjo in 2020 and beyond, I think they need to do something like the double gear system from Mega Man 11; a new mechanic that offers meaningfully new affordances while preserving the core gameplay. Get rid of move unlocks at the very least, but Mumbo can stay if they streamline the transformation process so there isn't so much back and forth and time wasted watching transformation cutscenes. Something like the transformation masks from Majora's Mask would be perfect.
@@ExoParadigmGamer How would you have felt if in Tooie the upgrades were more akin to things like "flapping wings after jumping gives you twice as much time in the air (effectively allowing you go travel further)" rather than "your ground pound gets upgraded so that it works to destroy things it previously already would have"? They're similar, so it'd make sense if they would both bother you. But it could have also been slightly different. In Tooie's nature of making you backtrack, Rare could have designed it so that there were areas of the game you had vision of early on but that you could only reach after unlocking the extended "double jump" distance. I feel like these kinds of minor changes "may" have helped with the issue of beginning Tooie feeling handicapped if you previously beat Kazooie.
This game would’ve been generally way better if it had more worlds, a menu map function and was fundamentally designed from an isometric perspective, much alike to the Spyro GBA games.
That fishing mini game where they’re underwater has a clear way to tell which is a fish and which is a crab. The crabs slowly and continuously move while the fish move in bursts.
I finally looked up what "bell end" means because it seemed very obvious that it was the end of the bell, but in fact it's British slang for "penis tip" and also doubles as meaning "dickhead" more or less. So I finally get the joke, as unruly as it is.
I do hope you review Nurs and Bolts one day. Every review I’ve seen seems too focused on “we waited 8 years for Banjo-Threeie only to get this” rather than judging the game by its own merits
Now that you've played the Banjo trilogy. Do you think it would be good to come back in the form of a "Mega Remake"? The 3 games together as if it were a great open world, obviously following the original story but with small twists.
I think I may have mentioned retroachievements at some point (namely in how I experienced the GBA Klonoas), but I figured it would be especially fitting here, considering I was the one who developed this game's cheevo set over there. My second full set ever, preceeded by Spyro 3 GBA and succeeded by Rocket Robot on Wheels.
Okay, this is gonna sound weird, but as soon as you showed off your cat, that's when you got me to watch the rest of the video. What can I say? I'm that much of a cat person.
Wait, the mobile mini-game compilation has Kazooie being split into pieces. Yet why is she helping Banjo at the shooting bosses? They really didn't care.
@@KellsKats For sure. The OG just has so much more charm, and every single last bit of it is sucked away in the remake. I hope they don't do the same thing to the sequel to be honest, since that's my favorite.
off topic: i love how when you show the charts for the most popular mobile games of 2019, fucking "Raid: Shadow Legends" isn't even in the top 10 despite people constantly shoving it down our throats in all the ads lol
6:17 It's kinda meant to be that way because it was technically released as a spin off even though in recent years they went back on that and started saying it was canon. It was purposefully written in a way that it doesn't matter at all in the grand scheme of things as spin offs typically are because they aren't canon to the story. This is further evidenced by the lack of mention of the events in games that take place after. You can say they don't mention it in Tooie because the game technically released before it, and that's fine, but Nuts & Bolts at the start of the game summerized the events of Kazooie and Tooie but skipped Grunty's Revenge and it came out well after. I kinda have to laugh at this because Grunty's Revenge is a spinoff that plays very much like a mainline title would, and Nuts & Bolts is a mainline title that plays like a spin off would. Boy, that sure isn't confusing! Anyways just wanted to throw that context in. Still doesn't justify the story not being interesting to you, canon or not, but I personally enjoyed it for what it was.
In speaking of GBA Iso platformers, another I really liked was the Tron 2.0 game on there. 2 campaigns to play through, mini games of the different vehicles from the first movie (Light cycle, Recognizer, the tank. Some of these even having basic 3D modeling) I admit a few parts have a little jank, but overall, still an overlooked as hell game.
I actually am glad you spoke about spyro 2: season of flame 🙂 I really enjoy that game *having beaten it along with season of ice and attack of the rhynocs, season of flame to me is easily the best spyro game on the gba, and it is the closest to matching the original trilogy* I do honestly feel that season of flame *or even all 3 gba games for that matter* are either panned, underlooked or even overlooked, maybe unappreciated even, 🙂 well played to you exo *And also, the kitty!!!!!! It looks adorable 😆😆😂🤣*
This game should've had more bosses and been developed better. I had an ok time when I had it but eventually I got burnt out on handheld games so I sold it. Since it's a spin-off I'll only really need the two canon games for my N64 collection (which I already own copies of.).

Same thing in java, but worse, and from what I noticed, the weak hardware of cell phones and the size of the games being at most 4MB, is the reason for the scenarios to have less details and worse framerate, running 10 fps.
The game wasn’t too bad all things considered
I was just playing this game when this came out
Yay missed your content
15:06 - "And while we're at it, let's just get rid of the move unlock system altogether."
16:21 - "I would be fine if the next Banjo game got rid of transformations altogether."
So what exactly do you want out of a Banjo game, Exo?
Merry early Christmas EPG
Remake or Rebrake: Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom
Don’t you mean cross platform
When rehydrated comes out maybe
This game would’ve been generally way better if it had more worlds, a menu map function and was fundamentally designed from an isometric perspective, much alike to the Spyro GBA games.
Never thought I'd see someone reference Steins;Gate in a Banjo-Kazooie video. And the fact it's Exo talking about it makes it all the better.
That fishing mini game where they’re underwater has a clear way to tell which is a fish and which is a crab. The crabs slowly and continuously move while the fish move in bursts.
I'm glad you lost that weight, health is important and you look way better
I finally looked up what "bell end" means because it seemed very obvious that it was the end of the bell, but in fact it's British slang for "penis tip" and also doubles as meaning "dickhead" more or less.
So I finally get the joke, as unruly as it is.
That’s a cute siamese cat.
My grandma has a siamese cat
I do hope you review Nurs and Bolts one day. Every review I’ve seen seems too focused on “we waited 8 years for Banjo-Threeie only to get this” rather than judging the game by its own merits
Now that you've played the Banjo trilogy.
Do you think it would be good to come back in the form of a "Mega Remake"?
The 3 games together as if it were a great open world, obviously following the original story but with small twists.
Y E S !
1:16 Oh my god. I love them.
Give it to EPG to be the one to compliment Other M on something!
Okay, this is gonna sound weird, but as soon as you showed off your cat, that's when you got me to watch the rest of the video. What can I say? I'm that much of a cat person.
1:07 so is this a way of showing you will release a full version of your dithering song from the Sonic Unleashed on PS2 gag.
you have a cute kitty! I say this while wearing a headset with cat ears bolted to it.
22:22 Digital Eclipse?
That's cool!
Well done on the weight loss mate
10:00
That's straw, my dude.
Wait, the mobile mini-game compilation has Kazooie being split into pieces.
Yet why is she helping Banjo at the shooting bosses?
They really didn't care.
He's back.
22:30 agreed it’s kind of like Spyro 3 but on a smaller screen
You look great dude, congrats on the weight loss!
You know your talking on stakes makes me wonder if the stakes of a game lose power after a sequel comes out if it stars the same main character.
YEAH A VIDEO AFTER 3 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do hope you return to series to review Nuts and Bolts some day.
Want a decent RPG about time travel? Give "Radiant Historia" a shot. Also comes in remastered format for the 3DS.
19:37 it was also in the GBC version, though it was called Crankey's Fishing.
You should do an ROR on Ratchet & Clank PS2 vs PS4
RetroGamer128 PS2 wins.
KellsKats Yeah its really no contest, R&C PS2 is a landmark in videogame storytelling melding with gameplay
Weighty Mhmm! The new one is like a child’s game. Not that children’s games can’t work... but it’s as if they made it for 4 year olds.
@@KellsKats For sure. The OG just has so much more charm, and every single last bit of it is sucked away in the remake. I hope they don't do the same thing to the sequel to be honest, since that's my favorite.
Rebreak.
Nice from,Gabe!
off topic: i love how when you show the charts for the most popular mobile games of 2019, fucking "Raid: Shadow Legends" isn't even in the top 10 despite people constantly shoving it down our throats in all the ads lol
Hope you Have a Happy Holidays Michael!
Exo does a disturbingly good Ripto impression
You now need to do a Xross Platform of all the versions of Rayman 2.
Good luck.
Longer than sonic unleashed
