Similar to cycling through the yeard journey, I recommend everyone trying to grow their mustache for terminal length at least once.
I'd recommend setting a goal to reach for six months and then evaluating your next steps from there. 😎 -Sly

I trim the middle of my stache so it aligns with my top lip, but keep the tails because I have patchy spots on the corners, and when I comb the tails back it gives it a fuller effect.

Again you teach patience. I love it! If you don't like it, just wait. It will grow out. Since this is my first time for letting everything grow out, I think I'll just let the mustache grow this first time too. I won't know how far it can go if I don't give it a chance. Then if I don't like it I can just cut it back and try a different route. Thanks Greg. 😊

First, I want to say that I haven't seen a video with Greg in in 6 years and he's looking more confident in front of the camera by this point (posted 3 years ago). Second, thank you for this video. My mustache is an area I definitely struggle with. My stache grows at an incredibly fast rate (or at least feels like it) but the corners grow even faster. Yet the corners never seem to match each other. One side is thinner than the other. Meanwhile, the thinner side tends to be longer than the other. It can be maddening sometimes. Anyway, I feel more at ease with the idea of playing around with different styles and lengths until I settle with something I like. So, thank you.

Really useful. 😁 I’ve been growing a beard for 6 months now and trimmed my moustache to a chevron. Now I want the handles back and like you said, within a month I can see them coming back. I’ve been trimming the middle section (for eating etc.) but now thinking a fuller more natural moustache might suit better? It’s all fun! 😁

Big fan of the large handlebar mustache with the big beard. In my (admittedly anecdotal) experience, a lot of guys with big beards trim their mustaches to the point that they look odd. I like a fuller, more natural look, but the handlebars give it a bit of sophistication for work or church.

I've never understood the last option of having a massive beard with a tiny trimmed moustache. If it's for religious reasons or your stache just won't grow I get it but otherwise I've just never understood guys trimming it that small. But to each his own we all have our preferences of what an ideal beard is and as long as you're wearing one you're on a winning team in my book!

My stache is by far the weakest part of my beard. I have gone up to 5 months without trimming it and I'd say mine goes terminal at around the 2 &1/2 to 3 month mark. It's much thinner then my beard which is really full and keeps growing well past the year mark. As I now know my staches full potential I choose to keep it semi full at around the 2 month length and trim it every few weeks. I agree with you 100% though and think everyone able should at least try to grow the stache to its terminal length to see your full potential.

I have a very slow growing beard. It's been 2 years and I'm only up (down) to 3 inches. I've been trying some new products and hopefully I'll start to get some length. As for my mustache, I might have to give the chevron a try. Once the sides start getting any length, it begins to thin out. Anyway, I love the info your channel provides. Thanks.

My beard length is about where Greg’s is in this video.
I’m a trombone player so the mouthpiece tends to break moustache hairs in a small arc in the middle, and I also trim at the top lip. The arc forces a style and I refine the look with clippers once every other week or so.

      @@BerzinskyRules neat, I didn’t know that!
Trumpet players can avoid breakage but tuba players are pretty much out of luck. I’m just glad my embouchure is centered because it’d look bad if the arc was offset.

I’ve had a mustache for 42 years. It’s varied in style from a chevron, walrus or Hungarian. Since I’ve been rocking the big beard the walrus and Hungarian are my preferred styles. I just feel that the big beard needs a big stash, in my case anyways. I’ve experimented with the handlebar and could definitely see it in the rotation. Pound for pound it seems the big mustache requires more maintenance than the beard. It has to be washed more frequently, combed and waxed at least a couple times a day. All worth it for me. Great video Greg.

Good video, and I've done a lot of these things. My mustache is very full, so I can play around with it a lot. My beard is thinner on the sides, so although I have a very full chin and under lip area, I can't grow the beard too big or the sides are just thin, wiry looking hair poking out in all directions.
I tried to let the stache grow to terminal length only once, but it was huge compared to the beard so I trimmed it back. I may try to grow it out again using the suggestion of trimming the middle section at mid-lip with longer tails. I like that look.

In 1996, my beard reached a length to approx. to the 4th rib anatomically speaking and my hair grew past the Acromium part of my shoulder blade (nr. rotator cuff), but I did trim my mustache though. I even shovelled barley in a grain bin that summer w that beard & hair length on my head. My mask had trouble staying on my face whilst shovelling grain. However, by October my hair & beard had to be cut and trimmed up for a wedding that autumn. Now, I enjoy my short hair because of my thinning hairline but I have a groomed beard now days.

As a guy only 4 years out of high school, I wear a short stash/goatee with a clean shelf past my jawbone. I have a bird shaped patch near the tip of my chin on the underside that I shaped the rest of the beard around. I've been able to grow a fairly decent beard since age 60. I've had mine for 3 years or so. Even though I was fairly hairy since age 20 and quite hairy by age 30. Yet, I could not grow a decent beard. I had parents and siblings who would shame me into shaving against will. However, I didn't like it myself. Shaggier is better to some extent. Looking like ZZTop was not what I thought would look like good for me. Trimming too much is the biggest mistake I generally made. I really enjoy having a beard. Guys don't mess with you as much and you look a bit threatening. So a single man living alone; it helps to have one. I also got to the point where shaving everyday was a pain. I'm proud to be part of the men's beard club. Winter is a great time to try. - Steve

I have a very thick 3-4 inch beard but I have a very weak mustache. By weak I mean it’s rather thin compared to my beard and the length on the sides is barely connecting to my beard. I have a yeard size beard (I'm too European to think in inches, but around 3-4 maybe??) which I trim very lightly to let it keep growing longer somewhat evenly. I'm aiming for a terminal beard. I keep my mustache trimmed short at the centre, because it doesn't grow long there at all. Just barely half an inch, goes terminal at 1-2 months. I've a very thin and wispy mustache, so it looks best trimmed down. So it's not a lot I even can do with it, tbh. I let the tails be long though, as those grow a couple inches, for the occasion I'd like a handlebar. Although those little whiskers do end up in my mouth a lot, which can be irritating, but not a big deal. My stache is the weakest part of my beard, but that's alright! I've a very thick goatee area to make up for it.

Greg can you make a video that has beard style suggestions for men with weak jawlines and chins as well as men with jowls?
I feel like this can help change the way the world views beardsmen, I’ve seen a lot of guys who have jowls (sorry if this isn’t the politically correct term it’s the only way I know to describe it) with really short corporate beards and hard trimmed edges and if they were to grow their beard out to 3 or 4 inches, it would create a harder more defined jawline that I feel would probably boost their confidence.

Yeah, I love that video! It had a lot of good notes and I was thinking that perhaps a video that is more specific to that particular grooming habit that a lot of guys have.
One that might even have profiles of different head shapes and how different beard lengths and styles may play to an individual’s features better than others. Even the fullness of your lips, for example, can change the way a mustache looks on different guys and I feel Greg has a very good approach for presenting this type of information.

A simple sandwich becomes a pain in the ass haha. After an inch or so the stache just curves right into my mouth or on my lips. Hey Bryce! My honest advice to you, based on my own experience: Go with the Circle Beard and remove the hair everywhere else. I am aware that nowadays all the hipsters as well as the good' old beard community prefer letting their beards just grow out; but you have a great coverage in that specific area and an awesome natural outlining. Your Circle Beard is broad enough to look great and there are some sparse areas under your lip which really contributes to a characteristic, unique look. To my surprise, I got tons of compliments after rocking a circle beard for the first time and felt more confident with all of those sparse hair on my cheeks and neck removed... I think the length between 0:30 and 0:38 in your video would suit you the most... Maybe give it a try if you haven't already? Greetings from Germany

@@Eliminativ thank you so much for this thorough response. I definitely agree with you, and have often worn a circle beard because my full beard didn't come in thick enough for my liking. I appreciate the advice, greetings from Canada!

I've tried several times to grow the middle of my mustache out now but it's too curly. Short of glueing it to the side I've not been able to train it straight. Normal styling products aren't cutting it so I'm trimming the middle.

      I’d say that’s probably normal.
Enjoy the bearded life. No need to go crazy with it. I think a short business type beard looks great on a younger man. But you can do what you want with it and have fun. It’s your beard and it’s your life.

    • @TKizzy12
      @TKizzy12 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Most times, like I did with mine . It involves lifting up the (long) tails of the mustache(or what you want as the tails) and trimming some of those hairs underneath it..”separating” it from the beard

I've grown my beard now for 6 months. I've had long beard before but I like to surprise my girlfriend once in a while.. but for the mustasch. I let it grow until I get tired of it then trim it down with a trimmer so I can kiss and eat for a while then let it grow again. I like my mustach long. And my girlfriend don't so we compromise

Where I live we still have mask mandates. I use a bandana but it is still a major buzzkill when you have a big beard. I have stayed the course for 2 years. I refuse to shave my beard in the name of COVID. Stay bearded!

"Everyone has one.... and bet it's a big one"....that's NOT what she said...... Now BS aside, once I trim with an electric trimmer w a separator.... say 3-4mm.....the result is horrible and takes long to fix it...... I think what makes the best result is : just take scissors and cut the tips.....keeps a better look and bulk.

You just have to let it grow.

Rock the beard you can grow today with style and confidence.
You can also work with styles that highlight the areas that grow in the strongest like the mustache, goatee, and sideburns. 😎 -Sly
