All family's are together, and none hide by interdimensional travel. Why not? Maybe because they were never programmed to, meaning only the original has the gun and the knowledge to make one.
this is what I've been going with, since we also do hear one of the ricks mention that the decoys can only do self contained terrestrial adventures, which makes me think that the decoys cannot go far into space, nevermind throughout dimwnsions
This season definitely has a theme. The perils of unlimited power. In the first episode, Morty becomes the Devil and is nearly killed. In this episode, Rick becomes a god and is nearly killed (well many of him are killed). I like the idea of them paying some sort of price, as they've gotten away with a lot over the years.
One of the Ricks said at the beginning that he made the decoys after the Space Beth incident so they’ve only existed since the Season 4 finale, however long ago that was.
I don't know why they keep saying that family 2 is the puppet disguised family. Aside from Rick not knowing who mr. Wants to be hunted was after being shot, we see family 2 get melted in their car while talking about Mr wants to be hunted.
Literally a cyclical theme to demonstrate how Rick and Morty and the entire Smith family are stuck in a perpetual loop to forever kill and annoy one another
Mr always wants to be hunted was a distraction left by og rick to keep the decoy family distracted while they where in space doing watever we didnt get to see.
Isn’t the true family revealed in the end when there in space there and you could say they could be a decoy but if they were decoys that means the decoys were made after space beths arrival and every decoy would have space Beth with them but because the decoys were designed before space Beth isn’t included
I think this is an all time great Rick and Morty episode. I'm not sure where in the rankings but personally I think it is one of those memorable ones. It may or may not have implications moving forward but again this is something else. I really enjoyed this one. If you don't agree, it's fine. You may be a decoy
Pretty much all of them are memorable to me. Sure some are better than others, but i have regarded this as the G.O.A.T. of television situation comedies ever since the first season.
i thought the family who were getting mr always wants too be hunted were the ones too get killed in the car by the alien decoys? and that rick who gets shot by him doesn’t know him because he asks were you a bit from earlier that we established
Maybe Rick c-137 made mr always wants to be hunted so he could kill the last decoy family standing because he knew that they wouldn’t actually hunt him
The last family is almost definitely the real one since Decoy-Rick said decoys were supposed to go on their own terrestrial and this whole thing has been on earth except for the last family with Space Beth.
Definitely not. You realize the wolf of wall street takes place in the 80s right not the 20s and wallstreet didn't really start popping off to big-time with stock exchange until the early 30s also
True! And to support your point: he doesn't get any notification until the very end (that was the first notification he got), which is unlikely after the massacre that killed most, if not all, of the decoys. This also implies that was the last decoy family as well, although that may or may not be true.
To the answer of how recent the decoy families are, they address that in the episode since Rick explained that he created the decoy family after Space Beth returns and was tracked, so relatively recently.
The decoys keep making decoys because like Cascade Rick said, it's "highlander rules" and nearly every Rick wants to be the Only Rick and is so paranoid they end up killing each other because they think another Rick is going to try to kill them. Rick's paranoia is a common theme in the whole series, like the splitting timeline episode where they splitting timeline ricks try to kill each other.
First - The first kill to set things in motion was probably the one that patchwork Rick did to get the skin suit he was wearing. That triggered a Rick's alert, and the squid plan probably started there. Second - The family in space at the end are the originals because the decoys can only have "terrestrial adventures". Third - Dolphin future callback from s2e1.
I enjoy the hypothesis that Mr always wants to be hunted is a contingency from OG Rick to redirect the decoys desire to hunt other decoys into something less destructive. Therefore once Mr Always to being hunted isnt being hunted ( because his decoy family is away hunting other decoys ) he turns murderous allowing him to stop the asimov cascade
That was actually the whole Idea, which they kinda started with the Jerry daycare stuff a few seasons ago, when 2 different Rick and Morty's switched Jerrys because they had their tickets mixed up. The decoys are supposed to be what we see between episodes that are connected to the over arching main story....so what we would think of as filer episodes are just us watching decoy families.
They said all the decoys are programmed to only have terrestrial adventures, so the ones in space at the end are the true family, it wasn't ambiguous at all.
I see a common theme of characters becoming immortal beings and prisoners of time. Jessica became a “Time God” by being trapped while remaining conscious in the last episode and Jerry did in the second. Am I reaching?
the family killed by mr.always wants to be hunted cant be the family from the cold open because rick clearly didnt recognize him and started asking if they set this up earlier
I think the family at the end of the episode in outer space is the real family. While watching the episode I was wondering why any of the families didn't think of going off-world via a portal or Ricks ship instead of trying to hide out in muppets or wherever else. I think somehow, as a contingency, Rick made the decoys unable to teleport or leave earth in order to contain the situation. It's just interesting that the families chose to hide or dress as aliens and hunt down other families instead of just leaving. I can see Rick wanting the destruction of the decoys to go exactly the way it played out in the episode as well. Pure chaos.
Amazing episode... the corrections of last season blackface morty... endless confusing loop 🔁 and ends in where we left off... plus the passcode: 8==D was a genius joke lol
They called the last rick standing the richest rick but then he died and our actual rick got the alert meaning it falls in line with them getting progressively worse in creation
One does not simply call them clones, they are decoys. Some of them are clones, others are Androids, and even clockwork wood shop and others. IRL a stick and a helmet have gotten plenty of snipers killed, a decoy is a decoy.
I think the family coming back from space is the real one because in the beginning one of the ricks explicitly say that the decoys go on self contained TERRESTRIAL adventures. Probably because Rick knows better than to let copies of himself leave the planet
The Original Rick must have hardcoded in the decoys that they ignore Mr Always Wants To Be Hunted as a failsafe, and it was a blindspot replicated into every other decoy.
I thought ‘Mr. Want to be hunted’ was a decoy of Mr PBH. He’s part of the family, and Rick cares about him too. Perhaps each family also has a decoy version of PoopyButhole, but he lives next door or someplace else, but that one malfunctioned and became obsessed with his destiny as a decoy to be hunted. That’s how I saw it anyway…
The original was the one with space beth , he only got notice after his clones died to the one wanting to be hunted. His only went off when they died, and he was the most close to the original Rick compared to the rest. So that Rick made a clone and that Rick being nearly identical to the original he made his own.
I don't feel like I lose any attachment regardless if what dimensions Rick and Morty we follow or if it's a decoy, clone, etc. I enjoy watching because they're all the same anyway. So they could jump around as much as they want to me. I would still watch lol
There are 5^5 (3,125) decoy families. The tree is 5 deep (scarecrow Rick's lineup of each generation), and one of the decoy ricks pulled up a map showing he had 5 decoy families. So 5 generations of ricks making 5 decoy family each is 3125. The highest number of decoys is actually the monster ricks (scarecrow rick, wood rick, thatch rick, gear box rick), but they probably died immediately since they were the least capable. Non of the decoys had portal guns or ships that could travel to interstellar space.
I'm thinking there may have been more rickskins. when the Wood family jumps right in you can see a pile on the corner and I'm not sure if it's entirely possible to even count those but they're there
I originally thought the squid people were some sort of reference to cthulu wsince they said they were gonna kill christian god i thought it might have ben that it drew the attention of a certain Eldritch God
I think the decoys were made to worry more than the real Rick. The final Rick that was in space didn’t get alerted until decoy Rick was killed by Mr.Always wants to be hunted. All the other Rick were rushing to run away until the brawl. The final Rick just seemed to not care which make sense due to how much power he has. This shows he’s the real rick
A few things the first family killed knew about mr always hunt me so you can’t conclude that the final family was first. Second it is interesting that each Rick & Morty decoy is less and less like the original. So you can see little bits and pieces where decoys don’t act like the original (Rick decoys feel more guilt and also are more caring to the family you’ll notice) it also gives us hints on which Beth is the real Beth between space Beth and OG Beth.
the true family revealed in the end when there in space there and you could say they could be a decoy but if they were decoys that means the decoys were made after space beths arrival and every decoy would have space Beth with them but because the decoys were designed before space Beth isn’t included
The Rick who got killed by Mr. Always Wants to be Hunted clearly stated he didn't recognize him, so IDK why you guys got the idea that they were the same family as before.
My question is, who killed the first decoy family? What set off the chain of events that led to decoys killing decoys. It wasn't squids, because those were decoys.
The ultimate sci fi squid monster ..... Kathulu the O.G. by H.P. Lovecraft. Where I feel most these ideas comes from the collection of short stories there is, great read btw
The family at the end is not “our family.” Notice the lack of Rick drool. The obvious implication is that the drooling/burping Rick and family we followed during the first four seasons was actually one of the imperfect duplicates offed in this episode.
At 24:48 the plural of octopus is octopuses in English, octopedes in Latin and oktopodes in Greek. Octopi is not the plural in any language. When you have a masculine suffix -us it is a second declension noun eg populus/populi. However octopus is a third declension noun because pus is a separate morpheme meaning foot (octo=eight, pus=foot) thus pluralised to pedes.
But the rick that gets killed by Mr. Always wants to be hunted didn't know him....he said as he was dying "Were you significant?... Did we tee you up?... I have so many questions".... so there is actually 90 families and the 90th family is the one with space beth
rick only makes 1 decoy family. which was the original decoy family who were killed by mr. always wanted to be hunted. The real rick gets a notification that his decoy family was killed when that family was killed.
I know this is old but....... when asking why the decoy families never ran into one another... 1. Mostly only ruck and morty would be on adventures and they would just assume it was another rick and morty probably 2. The rest of the family would be far enough away from any other decoy families to not run into them
As for the squid thing, costumes and ships... it's probably a parody of DC Comics' Brainiac with a Rick twist. When Brainiac comes in as a visible thing, it's skull ships that have tentacles with superior technology that is manned by Brainiac clones. Also, the episode is a call-out to the movie Multiplicity and a cynical parody of cultural divides based upon the same malfunction. Danny boy has cranked out another great work of art.
The most important implication in this episode is that Mistsr Poopy Butthole actually has a poopy butthole since Mister Always Wants To Be Hunted always wants to be hunted. We just can't see it because he's wearing pants.
I think the Rick in space is the real Rick One of the decoys said that decoys stay perform “self contained terrestrial adventures” Also the decoys were only there since Space Beth came after Rick
They could run into other Ricks all the time. There are several episodes where they run into other Ricks. No way to know who is a decoy or copy or from another universe and it doesn't really matter for sandbox-comedy reasons.
I think Mr Always Want To Be Hunted is a Mr Poopybutthole failed decoy. Similar looking and similar names.
Training himself by the people who hunt him, a way of coping maybe
Agreed!
You have *big brain*
But isn’t Mr.PB a variant Morty?
I still think that Mr. Poopybutthole is a parisite, just an extremely advanced one that worms his way into *all* memories, good or bad.

I gotta say, so far this season seems like a deconstruction of Rick and Morty. I guess. maybe
Anybody else not notice, how there aren’t any “neighbors”?
I think the Rick in space is the real Rick
One of the decoys said that decoys stay perform “self contained terrestrial adventures”
Also the decoys were only there since Space Beth came after Rick
They could run into other Ricks all the time. There are several episodes where they run into other Ricks. No way to know who is a decoy or copy or from another universe and it doesn't really matter for sandbox-comedy reasons.
Who wants to live forever?
When Wolf of Wallstreet lol
Dan Harmon has acknowledged your hard efforts *you are blessed
the rick doesn’t recognize mr. somebody hunt me at all. that would make that family 89 and our family makes 90
