Manga version: SUPER BRUH BROKEN! At least for ring of destruction. In the manga it didn't have a negative effect, so you destroy an opponents monster AND they get hit with the full burn damage of it's attack, without costing you a single life point yourself. I think that makes it Kaiba's most broken card. Wait for your opponent to bring out a big monster, then blow it away and take most or all of their life points. There's a reason Kaiba almost never draws it.
@GT012345tube I think ROD could only be activated in response to an attack, since he never activates it on its own, and with BEUD on the field Yugi wouldn't be able to launch an attack, so it wouldn't have worked out. Even if he could use it he wanted to win with his ultimate monster. He accounted for Yugi bringing out HIS ultimate monster by making one of his 3 cards one that can steal an attack boost, just in case.

I quickly want to mention Fang of Critias, just in the anime. The TCG version only has a few set targets, and while it is the best of the legendary dragons with Mirror Force Dragon and Doom Virus Dragon, it never really saw play. The anime version could seemingly target ANY trap card Kaiba had. Being able to transform any trap into a more powerful dragon version is a really good effect.
Cephery Which is so weird because Timaeus wasnt a game ender. In fact, it was kinda worthless to Yugi. He had to use Hermos to even create advantage against Raphael

@The Legend 27 He cheated in the manga in his first duel against Yugi and Yugi punished him with a night of nightmare which then gave him the idea to create the hologram system for the card battle as it was his way to eventually give Yugi the same punishment he recieved.
@The Legend 27 Pretty sure he wasn't facing Yugi when he summoned Obelisk on turn 1 without any tributes and just attacked the opponent on a turn you can't even attack.

Back when dueling network was still a thing I had a replica kaiba deck I played for fun, there was a whole community of these character deck replicators who’d go up against each other, and it was super super satisfying pulling off ridiculous anime-worthy moves against decks that conceivably I shouldn’t have had a chance against but pulling just the right card to pull victory from thin air was more satisfying than any meta tier I ever participated in.
This would be a really fun series to do with many other characters from the show as well. A lot of casual players, or players who started with the anime, will have had misconceptions about a multitude of cards due to how they're used to play off specific scripted scenarios in the anime.
I mean, Virus Cannon is kind of a full on milling of every spell. And then there's FINAL attack orders milling all but 3 cards. Those are my favorite ones!
I'm surprised you didn't mention Soul Exchange; Kaiba used that a lot to take control of his opponent's monsters for the turn (a lot like Double Magical Arm Bind) and tribute them, without losing the battle phase, and without being restricted to taking only 1 monster. It was apparently competitively viable around 2011 - 2017 in a lot of monarch decks (mostly main deck, some side deck), and even one guy's kaiju zoodiac infernoids (side deck).
@@aliceshiki8069 Yes, Kaiba doesn't use The Monarchs Stormforth haha. He used Soul Exchange against Yugi in "Clash in the Coliseum", and then Yugi haxed by using Change of Heart to take back a monster that Kaiba took with Soul Exchange. I re-watched the episode a day or two ago. :-) As for it being competitively viable, here, take a look. yugioh.tcgplayer.com/db/deck_search.asp And then search Soul Exchange. Apparently it includes using the card in side deck, but I do see many of the decks having it in main deck.

@@timaeus22222 he didn't hax it with change of heart as Kaiba played the spell card Spell Sanctuary of which allowed to pick and choose from your deck any spell, but not only that of which the dub didn't say at all. The second effect of which allowed all the spell cards to be quick plays and it was a continuous spell it was never destroyed in their duel so from then on until the duel ended they both used it's effect of using that quick play effect in their spells. The sub Kaiba says it by the way so Yugi was within rules as Kaiba made it that way and that's why the stuff with spells being played on opponents turn such as pot of greed which was not normally worked that way was cause of that card Kaiba played of which the dub didn't acknowledge at all.
This is apparently only counting cards that were good in the TCG. Virus Cannon's anime effect was "Send any number of Spells from your enemy's hand or deck to the graveyard." Power Balance is an anime only card you can activate when you have no cards in hand. It makes your opponent discard half their hand and you draw that many cards. Spell Sanctuary is a hillarious mess that did: "When this card is activated, both players may search their deck for a Spell Card and add it to their hand. Either player may activate spell cards from their hand during their opponent's turn."
Would you consider doing a top list on cards that can interact with/retrieve cards from the banished zone? As a Magic player, cards that get sent to the equivalent zone (exile) are meant to stay there for good with very VERY few exceptions, so it'd be interesting to know the breadth of competitive (or at least rogue) banish strategies.

You tribute any number of non-token monsters and your opponent sends the same amount of spell cards from their deck only to the GY

Going off of this video idea it might be interesting to look at whole anime-only archetypes we haven't seen in the TCG yet. Some of them found their way into the Tag Force video games at least so we have effect texts for them. Would love to find out what you think about the competitive viability of something like Jim Cooks fossil cards or is that more of an archetype archive RANK10YGO kind of thing?
5:40 Well no the effect is consistent. It's activation condition was different though in that you can activate it when a dark monster with 1000 atk or less is destroyed in battle.
I don't understand why Konomi ever released Last Turn. That card was so obviously going to be broken that anyone who knew anything about the game could have foreseen it.
Imagine if you actually had to know the codes to use Enemy Controller. How salty would someone get if they couldn't remember the code for taking control of an opponents monster and they lost?
Last Turn makes sense though. The issue all starts with how the card neglected to restrict HOW final outcome is reached. Because of that, all anyone has to do is simply create a scenario of which the opponent cannot special summon anything, and the Last Turn user wins automatically as long as his chosen monster remained on the field. It's easier than infinite drawing your way to Exodia.

Yeah ironically I don't think Yugi's decks are ever competitively good, rather they are very RNG-y but since he's the pharaoh that RNG almost always works in his favor. Like he could non-ironically make a 60 card deck with 1 of each card and still get every card he needs.

He basically go with summon fodder, to tribute summon stuff strats all the way through at least in the manga and i guess theres cards like Manga Mythical Refpanel and Multiply being significantly better than TCG Ghorz Emmisary of Darkness is also his card but it was really obscure so most people didnt knew about Iirc most of Yamis card sucking actually is explained in the manga but i cant remember where i saw it But really after late battle city every single major duel in the series with Yami Yugi is played the exact same way. He summoned his favorite card Obelisk the Tormentor and have Obelisk do the heavy lifting before he remember hes supposed to use Dark Magician and used them to finish things. And of course since the manga/anime God Hand Crusher is broken Takahashi created Soul Energy MAX and makes sure that Obelisk never got summoned in a situation where God Hand Crusher can be used
Altar of Restoration, anime soul taker, anime multiply (as seen vs Marik), mirror force, magic cylinder, dark renewal, horn of heaven, anime monster recovery, anime brain control, change of heart, rebellion, life shaver maybe, anime magical hats, pump up, excalibur, underworld circle. and last but not least ofc his draw power cards: pot of greed, graceful charity, card destruction (for these two also disgraceful charity), card of sanctity, also depending on what your opponent plays: anime mystical refpanel, anime spider web, anime double spell
I'd say like a handful of his cards are op; then the rest are conveniently placed one time use cards that have some random effect for a specific instance and would never see play ever again.
Speaking of what you were saying about "Lullaby of Obedience" there are actually other examples of cards in the TCG that are actually stronger than their anime counterparts. The best example is Gold Sarcophagus, in the TCG it's great and even still sees some play today, and it just lets you banish one card from your deck and then add it to your hand in 2 turns. In the anime it's like a worse version of Crossout Designator, it lets you banish a card from your deck, and then if your opponent happens to later activate the same card the effect of theirs is negated. Basically, you just sort of waste one of your own cards on the off chance your opponent might use the same one (that's of course assuming they even have that card, to begin with). So yeah, there are definitely cards in the TCG that are much better than their anime versions.
Hey dzeef. Some of your observations were pretty good, but I feel like you missed some of Kaiba's most broken spells and traps: 1. Final Attack Orders. This continuous trap immediately forces players to discard all but three cards from their deck of their choosing. Not only is this in and of itself incomprehensible in modern Yugioh, but it also has extreme OTK potential as it also forces all monsters on the field to stay in Attack Position. 2. Spell Sanctuary. This continuous spell allows both players to add one spell card from their deck to their hand upon activation. Not only is this insane search power (Kaiba uses it to search for an OTK card we'll discuss down the list), but it also allows players to activate normal spells during the opponent's turn, like trap cards. 3. Deck Destruction Virus. This continuous trap makes the opponent mill the top ten cards of their deck every time a DARK Fiend monster with low attack points is destroyed by battle. This is an insanely great mill card that Kaiba uses in a combo with Peten the Dark Clown. 4. Obligatory Summon. This spell card forces the opponent to summon from their deck as many monsters as possible with the same type as a monster from their field. This (debatably) has the potential to be really broken, because you can play this before removing/destroying all of those monsters with some generic destruction effect (or something like Super Polymerization). You could debate this card, but the fact your opponent is forced to do this action opens the door for some really unbalanced plays. 5. Soul Exchange. In the anime, this card allows you to tribute any number of your opponent's monsters, AND there is no negative restriction to doing so. (In the real TCG you have to target one monster, and you skip your Battle Phase). Even in the anime this was a broken card, as Kaiba primarily used this card to summon Obelisk and OTK his opponent with 4000 LP. 6. Magical Trick Mirror. This trap card, which activates when the opponent declares an attack, selects and activates a spell card in the opponent's Graveyard. Especially in the old school era, where staple spell cards like Graceful Charity, Monster Reborn, Pot of Greed, Dark Hole, and Snatch Steal were played, I feel like this is really powerful and would've been competitively viable. 7. Power Balance. Trap card that activates when you have no cards in your hand. Your opponent must discard half their hand, and then you draw the same amount. This card is debatable, because of its risky activation requirements, and I feel like you would disapprove of this card, but I feel like it can be a good card because it makes your opponent discard a potentially high amount of cards from their hand, an effect which made Delinquent Duo unmistakably ban-material, while letting your draw off of it. I know this one is debatable, and I can see the opposing argument, but it is unique enough a card for a mention on this list. 8. Command Silencer. This card negates an attack and then lets you draw a card. Not only is this a pretty good effect, but what kind of card this is varies between anime adaptations. In the original Japanese Sub, this was a Quick-Play spell, which is insane. 9. Virus Cannon. This card sends 10 Spell cards from your opponent's deck to the graveyard, with no specific activation requirements or drawbacks whatsoever. Kaiba definitely abuses his wealth during deck construction in the original Yugioh series. 10. Mystical Space Typhoon. Small nitpick, but it grinds my gears just slightly to see you specifically acknowledge he plays different generic staple cards, list some of them, but not list them all. I think he only played it once or twice (definitely in Pyramid of Light), but he plays it nonetheless. 11. Return From A Different Dimension. The Trap version of Dimension Fusion. He plays this as well, and while Dimension Fusion is unquestionably better, this card is nonetheless really powerful. There is definitely a reason Kaiba is still well-regarded as a top-tier duelist by the fanbase today. Throughout the anime he is also characterized as being extremely well-versed in the meta by knowing good spells/traps by heart, such as Soul Charge in Season 4. I would love to see you react to my comment, dzeef, if you think this is good enough to make a video on. I have a special passion for the Yugioh anime and could spend hours talking about it. Hello! Thanks for the feedback. Please keep in mind what I said in the beginning of this video: I'm reviewing Kaiba's spells and traps that also saw play in the competitive TCG format. Many of the cards you listed are anime exclusive. For things like MST, hopefully you understand I can't cover all of his useful cards, otherwise we'd be here for 45 minutes and nobody wants that :)

My pick for Kaibas best trap card used, last turn... So powerful it could stop exodia and if used with a monster that stops your opponent from special summoning, ahh last turn and jowgen the spiritualist, this eventually resulted in the banning of last turn. Dimension fusion was great when they released future fusion and overload fusion, I'm still waiting for Cannon soldier to be banned in competitive Yu-Gi-Oh in all platforms
It's crazy that these are just the unique cards he played that no one else did. He had a lot of really good Spells and Traps so it's no wonder why in the anime he was considered one of the best duelists. That's like if Jeff Jones was the only person allowed to play Pot of Avarice and Soul Charge
They're unique to him because he has money. He can afford things others can't. Cards in their world probably costs thousands of dollars because they have cash tournaments that they can make a living off of. Cards that earn you money would definitely skyrocket in price to the point only people like Kaiba can afford them.
These remind me of a strange equip spell card that I had in my deck back in 6th grade that gave like 700 bonus ATK to one monster and had some additional nasty backlash effect if the opponent destroyed either it or the monster it was equipped to. Everyone hated playing against me just because of that card and no one believed me that was really what it did because at the time I was the only one there that could read English well enough to understand the explanation on it, so they thought I was making it up, lol
@dzeff: Reason why crush card virus got nerf, his not because to get off the band list, it was because Doom virus dragon that can be contact summoned activating the spell card fang of gridiest and sending a crush card virus trap for contact fusion, got that effect, and according to tcg, and ocg, 2 different card cannot have the same effect, Despite normaly contact fuison can have their summoned negated, but when Doom virus dragon his contact summoned that summoned cannot be negated, since Fang of gridiest his resolving, and the resolution end when the contact summoned his successful. so the opening to negated the summoned never happen.
Power Balance: discard half the opponent's hand and draw the same amount. Only disadvantages are it's a Trap (but it's so powerful it's worth it) and requires you to have 0 cards in your hand (incredibly easy to do now that everything can Special Summon itself or others).

If I recall, he did it only 3 times, 4 if you count the first movie. Twice was against Yugi (Seasons 1 and 3) and the third time was against Zorc in the Ancient Egypt arc. Also there was the one time his computer used it against him when he was testing out Obelisk but I don't think that counts.
I always have trouble getting my hands on Polymerization. I had one copy back in the day but sadly my old school deck was stolen. If I had my old school cards, I could've easily ran Dragoon.
Anime Crush Card bit tricky to pull off but it is insane. Dark type moster with 1000 or less attack points must be destroyed by battle(last i remember) your opponent sends all monsters with 1500 or more attack points from the field hand and deck to the graveyard and can not be summoned while Crush Card is in the graveyard. Funny GX Crush Card is the same as pre erata Crush Card
You forgot second broken card in kaiba's deck Canon virus : send all spells both in hand and deck to the graveyard Also Soul exchange : tribute monsters from your opponent side of the field
Virus Cannon has an extremely different effect in real life than it does in the anime, and is a lot worse. Soul Exchange is a cool card, but another real life card "The Monarchs Stormforth" powercrept it the format that Monarchs were doing well in most recently, and, as a result of it being a better alternative, Soul Exchange was not competitively viable. The reasons that The Monarchs Stormforth is better is because 1. It is a quick play spell and Soul Exchange is not 2. Soul Exchange targets a monster, whereas Stormforth doesn't have to 3. Stormforth is easily searchable, whereas Soul Exchange isn't
@GT012345tube Even though, if they actually counted all the dragons in Kaiba's graveyard, Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon would have had 4800 ATK, and as a result Kaiba would have reduced Yugi to 0 when Sorcerer of Dark Magic was destroyed.
kaiba spell and trap is only for Blue eyes related card, if we compare him with Yugi, Yugi have Mirror Force and other card that can make you win, The only thing i could say about Kaiba is he was Blue Eyes Maniac, he only used spell or trap to reborn blue eyes
I don't even understand why pot charity and heavy storm are still banned. The current game is so fast and there are so many cards that let you draw that I don't see why these two even matter anymore. And there are so many spells that flat out destroy your opponents spell cards and even all of them that I don't see why heavy storm is still banned. They might have been super op back in the day but now they are par for the course for the rest of the metta.
How could you not mention the anime only card he played against Atem during the battle city semifinals? The spell that makes the opponent discard half their hand and then the player who activated that card gets to draw the same number of cards the opponent discarded. He used it when Atem had 6 cards, so it was a +5 for him.
Lullaby of obedience is actually very broken in mirror matches and potential could be really broken as a side deck card.. both the anime version and tcg versions are both broken.. i am supprised komani would ever print a card like this... In someways the tcg version is better than the anime version which is pretty interesting.. although you pay less life points for the anime version so idk.. but the tcg one technically has better effects..
Surprised you didn't mention the Anime-exclusive cards like Negative Energy Generator, a card that purportedly tripled a Dark monster's attack. I feel like you'd say something along the lines of "I mean raising attack is always good, but this card targets and the current meta doesn't even use the battle phase anymore, that's why it's at 3".

I do have an idea for another video if your interested. The idea was reviewing cards that are spell/traps/monster cards that can be used as a monster and spell or trap and vise versa. Like crystal beasts etc.

Ech, the ridiculous errata changes are why I stick to magic the gathering. (this mini-rant is mostly due to what happened to ring of destruction). Magic had some card errata changes originally, but now tries to avoid it and changes the rules themselves if anything gets to broken. Ban and limit lists are there for a reason, the only thing changing the card itself does is make older cards worthless. If a card's banned, then you can use it in personal play and not professional play. If the errata gets changed, then you're up a creek without a paddle unless you have a friend who'll let you use the original version of the card. Changing the entire effect of the card is like changing the back of a card. And this is aside from my personal opinion that - for the most part - after the introduction of contact fusion and later synchros, summoning monsters out quickly got rediculous. Less strategic, more spam.
Seto literally is OP, doesn’t he practically own almost every card in the game. I’d have to refer back but I’m pretty sure he could make any deck he wanted but chose to be almost balanced. He could’ve been the best duelist alongside Pegasus seeing as he actually makes cards lol
A lot of the characters should’ve played more of the early generic spell cards like Change of Heart, Graceful charity, Brain Control, and Soul Charge. It was somewhat inconsistent with which characters used which spell cards

I quickly want to mention Fang of Critias, just in the anime. The TCG version only has a few set targets, and while it is the best of the legendary dragons with Mirror Force Dragon and Doom Virus Dragon, it never really saw play.
The anime version could seemingly target ANY trap card Kaiba had. Being able to transform any trap into a more powerful dragon version is a really good effect.
Ryan Spooner of course, deus ex spell card was a very fun way to play and it’s definitely not a shame we didn’t get to see last turn dragon

which then gave him the idea to create the hologram system for the card battle
as it was his way to eventually give Yugi the same punishment he recieved.

Back when dueling network was still a thing I had a replica kaiba deck I played for fun, there was a whole community of these character deck replicators who’d go up against each other, and it was super super satisfying pulling off ridiculous anime-worthy moves against decks that conceivably I shouldn’t have had a chance against but pulling just the right card to pull victory from thin air was more satisfying than any meta tier I ever participated in.

This would be a really fun series to do with many other characters from the show as well. A lot of casual players, or players who started with the anime, will have had misconceptions about a multitude of cards due to how they're used to play off specific scripted scenarios in the anime.

I'm surprised you didn't mention Soul Exchange; Kaiba used that a lot to take control of his opponent's monsters for the turn (a lot like Double Magical Arm Bind) and tribute them, without losing the battle phase, and without being restricted to taking only 1 monster. It was apparently competitively viable around 2011 - 2017 in a lot of monarch decks (mostly main deck, some side deck), and even one guy's kaiju zoodiac infernoids (side deck).

@@aliceshiki8069 Yes, Kaiba doesn't use The Monarchs Stormforth haha. He used Soul Exchange against Yugi in "Clash in the Coliseum", and then Yugi haxed by using Change of Heart to take back a monster that Kaiba took with Soul Exchange. I re-watched the episode a day or two ago. :-)

@@timaeus22222 he didn't hax it with change of heart as Kaiba played the spell card Spell Sanctuary of which allowed to pick and choose from your deck any spell, but not only that of which the dub didn't say at all. The second effect of which allowed all the spell cards to be quick plays and it was a continuous spell it was never destroyed in their duel so from then on until the duel ended they both used it's effect of using that quick play effect in their spells. The sub Kaiba says it by the way so Yugi was within rules as Kaiba made it that way and that's why the stuff with spells being played on opponents turn such as pot of greed which was not normally worked that way was cause of that card Kaiba played of which the dub didn't acknowledge at all.
That battle city, yugi vs kaiba dual. Was one of the best in the anime. The back and forth was so fun to watch.

This is apparently only counting cards that were good in the TCG. Virus Cannon's anime effect was "Send any number of Spells from your enemy's hand or deck to the graveyard." Power Balance is an anime only card you can activate when you have no cards in hand. It makes your opponent discard half their hand and you draw that many cards. Spell Sanctuary is a hillarious mess that did: "When this card is activated, both players may search their deck for a Spell Card and add it to their hand. Either player may activate spell cards from their hand during their opponent's turn."

Dude, he played Card of Demise (anime version). Anime version of any card is almost always broken, so yes, he did play broken spells.

Would you consider doing a top list on cards that can interact with/retrieve cards from the banished zone? As a Magic player, cards that get sent to the equivalent zone (exile) are meant to stay there for good with very VERY few exceptions, so it'd be interesting to know the breadth of competitive (or at least rogue) banish strategies.

You tribute any number of non-token monsters and your opponent sends the same amount of spell cards from their deck only to the GY

Going off of this video idea it might be interesting to look at whole anime-only archetypes we haven't seen in the TCG yet. Some of them found their way into the Tag Force video games at least so we have effect texts for them. Would love to find out what you think about the competitive viability of something like Jim Cooks fossil cards or is that more of an archetype archive RANK10YGO kind of thing?

Well no the effect is consistent. It's activation condition was different though in that you can activate it when a dark monster with 1000 atk or less is destroyed in battle.
I don't understand why Konomi ever released Last Turn. That card was so obviously going to be broken that anyone who knew anything about the game could have foreseen it.

Imagine if you actually had to know the codes to use Enemy Controller. How salty would someone get if they couldn't remember the code for taking control of an opponents monster and they lost?
Last Turn makes sense though. The issue all starts with how the card neglected to restrict HOW final outcome is reached. Because of that, all anyone has to do is simply create a scenario of which the opponent cannot special summon anything, and the Last Turn user wins automatically as long as his chosen monster remained on the field. It's easier than infinite drawing your way to Exodia.

Yeah ironically I don't think Yugi's decks are ever competitively good, rather they are very RNG-y but since he's the pharaoh that RNG almost always works in his favor.
Like he could non-ironically make a 60 card deck with 1 of each card and still get every card he needs.

But really after late battle city every single major duel in the series with Yami Yugi is played the exact same way. He summoned his favorite card Obelisk the Tormentor and have Obelisk do the heavy lifting before he remember hes supposed to use Dark Magician and used them to finish things. And of course since the manga/anime God Hand Crusher is broken Takahashi created Soul Energy MAX and makes sure that Obelisk never got summoned in a situation where God Hand Crusher can be used
Altar of Restoration, anime soul taker, anime multiply (as seen vs Marik), mirror force, magic cylinder, dark renewal, horn of heaven, anime monster recovery, anime brain control, change of heart, rebellion, life shaver maybe, anime magical hats, pump up, excalibur, underworld circle.
and last but not least ofc his draw power cards: pot of greed, graceful charity, card destruction (for these two also disgraceful charity), card of sanctity, also depending on what your opponent plays: anime mystical refpanel, anime spider web, anime double spell
I'd say like a handful of his cards are op; then the rest are conveniently placed one time use cards that have some random effect for a specific instance and would never see play ever again.
Speaking of what you were saying about "Lullaby of Obedience" there are actually other examples of cards in the TCG that are actually stronger than their anime counterparts. The best example is Gold Sarcophagus, in the TCG it's great and even still sees some play today, and it just lets you banish one card from your deck and then add it to your hand in 2 turns. In the anime it's like a worse version of Crossout Designator, it lets you banish a card from your deck, and then if your opponent happens to later activate the same card the effect of theirs is negated. Basically, you just sort of waste one of your own cards on the off chance your opponent might use the same one (that's of course assuming they even have that card, to begin with). So yeah, there are definitely cards in the TCG that are much better than their anime versions.
Add three copies of Magic Cylinder to every deck.
Plus others like Mirror Force, Dark Hole, Draining Shield, Waboku, Michizure, Sakuretsu Armor & Widespread Ruin

Hey dzeef. Some of your observations were pretty good, but I feel like you missed some of Kaiba's most broken spells and traps:
1. Final Attack Orders. This continuous trap immediately forces players to discard all but three cards from their deck of their choosing. Not only is this in and of itself incomprehensible in modern Yugioh, but it also has extreme OTK potential as it also forces all monsters on the field to stay in Attack Position.
2. Spell Sanctuary. This continuous spell allows both players to add one spell card from their deck to their hand upon activation. Not only is this insane search power (Kaiba uses it to search for an OTK card we'll discuss down the list), but it also allows players to activate normal spells during the opponent's turn, like trap cards.
3. Deck Destruction Virus. This continuous trap makes the opponent mill the top ten cards of their deck every time a DARK Fiend monster with low attack points is destroyed by battle. This is an insanely great mill card that Kaiba uses in a combo with Peten the Dark Clown.
4. Obligatory Summon. This spell card forces the opponent to summon from their deck as many monsters as possible with the same type as a monster from their field. This (debatably) has the potential to be really broken, because you can play this before removing/destroying all of those monsters with some generic destruction effect (or something like Super Polymerization). You could debate this card, but the fact your opponent is forced to do this action opens the door for some really unbalanced plays.
5. Soul Exchange. In the anime, this card allows you to tribute any number of your opponent's monsters, AND there is no negative restriction to doing so. (In the real TCG you have to target one monster, and you skip your Battle Phase). Even in the anime this was a broken card, as Kaiba primarily used this card to summon Obelisk and OTK his opponent with 4000 LP.
6. Magical Trick Mirror. This trap card, which activates when the opponent declares an attack, selects and activates a spell card in the opponent's Graveyard. Especially in the old school era, where staple spell cards like Graceful Charity, Monster Reborn, Pot of Greed, Dark Hole, and Snatch Steal were played, I feel like this is really powerful and would've been competitively viable.
7. Power Balance. Trap card that activates when you have no cards in your hand. Your opponent must discard half their hand, and then you draw the same amount. This card is debatable, because of its risky activation requirements, and I feel like you would disapprove of this card, but I feel like it can be a good card because it makes your opponent discard a potentially high amount of cards from their hand, an effect which made Delinquent Duo unmistakably ban-material, while letting your draw off of it. I know this one is debatable, and I can see the opposing argument, but it is unique enough a card for a mention on this list.
8. Command Silencer. This card negates an attack and then lets you draw a card. Not only is this a pretty good effect, but what kind of card this is varies between anime adaptations. In the original Japanese Sub, this was a Quick-Play spell, which is insane.
9. Virus Cannon. This card sends 10 Spell cards from your opponent's deck to the graveyard, with no specific activation requirements or drawbacks whatsoever. Kaiba definitely abuses his wealth during deck construction in the original Yugioh series.
10. Mystical Space Typhoon. Small nitpick, but it grinds my gears just slightly to see you specifically acknowledge he plays different generic staple cards, list some of them, but not list them all. I think he only played it once or twice (definitely in Pyramid of Light), but he plays it nonetheless.
11. Return From A Different Dimension. The Trap version of Dimension Fusion. He plays this as well, and while Dimension Fusion is unquestionably better, this card is nonetheless really powerful.
There is definitely a reason Kaiba is still well-regarded as a top-tier duelist by the fanbase today. Throughout the anime he is also characterized as being extremely well-versed in the meta by knowing good spells/traps by heart, such as Soul Charge in Season 4.

Many of the cards you listed are anime exclusive. For things like MST, hopefully you understand I can't cover all of his useful cards, otherwise we'd be here for 45 minutes and nobody wants that :)

My pick for Kaibas best trap card used, last turn... So powerful it could stop exodia and if used with a monster that stops your opponent from special summoning, ahh last turn and jowgen the spiritualist, this eventually resulted in the banning of last turn. Dimension fusion was great when they released future fusion and overload fusion, I'm still waiting for Cannon soldier to be banned in competitive Yu-Gi-Oh in all platforms
It's crazy that these are just the unique cards he played that no one else did. He had a lot of really good Spells and Traps so it's no wonder why in the anime he was considered one of the best duelists. That's like if Jeff Jones was the only person allowed to play Pot of Avarice and Soul Charge
They're unique to him because he has money. He can afford things others can't. Cards in their world probably costs thousands of dollars because they have cash tournaments that they can make a living off of.
Cards that earn you money would definitely skyrocket in price to the point only people like Kaiba can afford them.
These remind me of a strange equip spell card that I had in my deck back in 6th grade that gave like 700 bonus ATK to one monster and had some additional nasty backlash effect if the opponent destroyed either it or the monster it was equipped to. Everyone hated playing against me just because of that card and no one believed me that was really what it did because at the time I was the only one there that could read English well enough to understand the explanation on it, so they thought I was making it up, lol
@dzeff: Reason why crush card virus got nerf, his not because to get off the band list, it was because Doom virus dragon that can be contact summoned activating the spell card fang of gridiest and sending a crush card virus trap for contact fusion, got that effect, and according to tcg, and ocg, 2 different card cannot have the same effect, Despite normaly contact fuison can have their summoned negated, but when Doom virus dragon his contact summoned that summoned cannot be negated, since Fang of gridiest his resolving, and the resolution end when the contact summoned his successful. so the opening to negated the summoned never happen.
Power Balance: discard half the opponent's hand and draw the same amount. Only disadvantages are it's a Trap (but it's so powerful it's worth it) and requires you to have 0 cards in your hand (incredibly easy to do now that everything can Special Summon itself or others).

If I recall, he did it only 3 times, 4 if you count the first movie. Twice was against Yugi (Seasons 1 and 3) and the third time was against Zorc in the Ancient Egypt arc. Also there was the one time his computer used it against him when he was testing out Obelisk but I don't think that counts.

Anime Crush Card bit tricky to pull off but it is insane.
Dark type moster with 1000 or less attack points must be destroyed by battle(last i remember) your opponent sends all monsters with 1500 or more attack points from the field hand and deck to the graveyard and can not be summoned while Crush Card is in the graveyard.

He's talking about cards from the anime that were competitive in real life, not cards from the anime that were powerful in the anime.
Virus Cannon has an extremely different effect in real life than it does in the anime, and is a lot worse. Soul Exchange is a cool card, but another real life card "The Monarchs Stormforth" powercrept it the format that Monarchs were doing well in most recently, and, as a result of it being a better alternative, Soul Exchange was not competitively viable. The reasons that The Monarchs Stormforth is better is because
1. It is a quick play spell and Soul Exchange is not
2. Soul Exchange targets a monster, whereas Stormforth doesn't have to
3. Stormforth is easily searchable, whereas Soul Exchange isn't

I don't even understand why pot charity and heavy storm are still banned. The current game is so fast and there are so many cards that let you draw that I don't see why these two even matter anymore. And there are so many spells that flat out destroy your opponents spell cards and even all of them that I don't see why heavy storm is still banned. They might have been super op back in the day but now they are par for the course for the rest of the metta.

How could you not mention the anime only card he played against Atem during the battle city semifinals? The spell that makes the opponent discard half their hand and then the player who activated that card gets to draw the same number of cards the opponent discarded. He used it when Atem had 6 cards, so it was a +5 for him.

Lullaby of obedience is actually very broken in mirror matches and potential could be really broken as a side deck card.. both the anime version and tcg versions are both broken.. i am supprised komani would ever print a card like this... In someways the tcg version is better than the anime version which is pretty interesting.. although you pay less life points for the anime version so idk.. but the tcg one technically has better effects..
Surprised you didn't mention the Anime-exclusive cards like Negative Energy Generator, a card that purportedly tripled a Dark monster's attack. I feel like you'd say something along the lines of "I mean raising attack is always good, but this card targets and the current meta doesn't even use the battle phase anymore, that's why it's at 3".
Annoyed Armos He does state in the video that he's only listing cards that were good in the TCG competitively, so anime exclusive wouldn't work

I do have an idea for another video if your interested. The idea was reviewing cards that are spell/traps/monster cards that can be used as a monster and spell or trap and vise versa. Like crystal beasts etc.
no mentioning of the virus canon? In the anime that card just destroys 10 magic cards from the opponent deck without any cost or restrictions. If he played 2 in a row that would wipe out most if not all of the opposing players magic cards... Just saying

Ech, the ridiculous errata changes are why I stick to magic the gathering. (this mini-rant is mostly due to what happened to ring of destruction). Magic had some card errata changes originally, but now tries to avoid it and changes the rules themselves if anything gets to broken. Ban and limit lists are there for a reason, the only thing changing the card itself does is make older cards worthless. If a card's banned, then you can use it in personal play and not professional play. If the errata gets changed, then you're up a creek without a paddle unless you have a friend who'll let you use the original version of the card. Changing the entire effect of the card is like changing the back of a card.
And this is aside from my personal opinion that - for the most part - after the introduction of contact fusion and later synchros, summoning monsters out quickly got rediculous. Less strategic, more spam.
Seto literally is OP, doesn’t he practically own almost every card in the game. I’d have to refer back but I’m pretty sure he could make any deck he wanted but chose to be almost balanced. He could’ve been the best duelist alongside Pegasus seeing as he actually makes cards lol
He was a better duelist than the pharo who had a magic necklace that increased probability

A lot of the characters should’ve played more of the early generic spell cards like Change of Heart, Graceful charity, Brain Control, and Soul Charge. It was somewhat inconsistent with which characters used which spell cards
Most of the characters got their cards by pulling from packs it seems.

Maybe the anime had it's own banlist and CoD was limited, and it might be a very expensive card there
