I remember the snack pack can. The pudding tastes better than the one in plastic
How can you want something back that hasn't left? Change the title, guys!
also, according to the tags, it says LEROY chow mein, can say LACHOY and the can is right. I WORKED there, it's a Conagra brand product, and still going strong. You need to know what you are talking about before you post a video, reject.
I started thinking the same thing, almost from the very beginning of the video...
Some of these can foods are still around just that no one buys them anymore ..Like Dinty moore beef stew i still buy it once in awhile and my moms favorite was Hormel tamales in the late 70s ..
I still buy the tamales and puddings
I always liked the chicken ala king.
Dinty Moore is great.
I love the tamales and I didn't know the stew was still around. I'm going to look now.
It seems dinty Moore stew tasted better in the can than now microwave version and spam spread snack pack memories
I never cared for chocolate or tapioca snack pack pudding, but my oh my, did I ever love the butterscotch and vanilla. Had them in my yellow Snoopy lunch box every day going to Saint Norbert elementary school from 1969-1978.
I had the same lunch box in elementary school, don't know what happened to it, might be worth something today
@@yellowstoneloyal8186 You're probably right, but when my family moved in March of 1978, my mother threw out all of my sister's and my stuff. Boxes of baseball cards in great condition, all of our great games from the '70s that are too many to mention here, all of my sets of vintage plastic Marx army men, and of course my prized Snoopy lunch box. She just trashed all our memories in one day when my sister & I were at school. 🥺🥺😭😭😭 I was 15 and she was 13. To this day, we still talk about that every so often - 46 years later.
@@Tomatohater64 Damn brother, sorry to hear that, by the way, just found a Snoopy lunch box with the thermos on Esty for $235.00
I loved only the butterscotch #1 ( chocolate #2 but only with a shot of Dream Whip lol)
@@anthonyhunt701 I could live off their butterscotch pudding alone. Mega delicious. Don't forget butterscotch cream pie - also yummy. 🥧🥧🥧🥧
Many years ago my aunt volunteered at the USO on base and I would go with her. We take SPAM put it through an old hand crank meat grinder - the original food processor -- then mix that with minced dill and bread and butter pickles, minced onion and mayonnaise. When fold came in to wait for plane we'd make them a sandwich --- It was such an easy thing to fix up and two cans of SPAM made a lot of sandwiches!
I love corned beef hash. A couple of eggs on top makes a great meal.
But, check the label! Your choice may not have any actual corned beef… gotta choose Libby’s.
I can find Dinty Moore every time I go to Walmart, in several sized cans.
I loved snack pack pudding in a can and I still love it now!!!
I will break out the CORNED BEEF HASH whenever I cook up some cabbage !
I will open up a can of SUE BEE CHICKEN AND DUMPLINGS once in a while as I still love its taste and texture .
Beefaroni, dinty moore and vienna sausages are in the same place in the grocery stores they've always been
I never really liked can food. I buy very few can food.
I dont think our mom bought much canned food either.
Thanks for the history. 😊
Dinty Moore Beef Stew is still in grocery stores for a quick meal.
just about everything in this video is still in stores.....at least in my area
Too bad it's so gross.
@lynda74 yea its...nasty
Actually Swanson does still make chicken A la king.I just seen some on the shelf today in the canned meat aisle next to the canned stews
They have it at Dollar Tree
I still buy it and eat it.
I have been wanting to try some LA CHOY CHICKEN CHOW MEIN or LA CHOY BEEF CHOW MEIIN for months now
and I can't find any of these in my local stores . I'm in my 70's now and I used to buy this back in the 1970's as it was
an easy way to have chinese food without going out and spending a bundle of money for a quick chinese food fix ..
Walmart in my area has LaChoy Chow Mein. Check your Wally Worlds, friends.
Yes! Same with me!
Imagine a bunch of salty, soggy bean sprouts with a fleck or two of carrots. Then add the lowest quality meet imaginable. That's what it taste like. You are not missing anything.
Walmart
Most of these are still available...
When I was a kid my mom would buy the Chef Boyardee pasta, my favorites being the beef ravioli and Beefaroni. I still buy canned Steak N Shake chili since most the restaurants close to me closed a few years ago.
My mom used to use Carnstion evaporated milk in her home made cheesecakes. Hers were the best cheesecakes I ever had! RIP mom! ❤
Now you're getting me hungry!
Swanson chicken a la king is still made and I buy it regularly.
Not in my area. I'm jealous. 😉 I love it. Served over toasted English muffins. Yummy.
Where are you located? Just curious. I'm in New York. Wal-Mart carries it. What I cannot find anymore is Lime Koolaid.
I am in Missouri. I will check on the Kool aid here and get back to you,
I remember all of these canned foods and have had them for meals
at one time or another and as always Thanks for the Memories.🇺🇲🥫🇺🇲
Wait until you realize you can still get them!
I still buy and eat virtually ALL of these. All are still popularly available. The only Chef Boy Ardee food I don't care for is Cheese Ravioli. I ate a can of regular Ravioli today, and eat Beefaroni often. None of these goods are gone.
Loved deviled spam and dinty Moore beef stew and yes I. Would love for them to come back
I miss Sloppy Joe in can WITH THE MEAT ALREADY IN CAN !!! NO ADDING HAMBURGER MEAT
YES !!! I remember when SLOPPY JOE'S had the meat already in it !
Nowadays you have to add your own meat to the SLOPPY JOE'S .
Chef boyardee sucks these days!! I remember it with thick tomate sauce now its as runny as water
Yep. My dog won't even eat it. That says a lot.
You are right it's much runnier sauce and tastes like they changed the recipe
Dinty Moore beef stew and instant mashed potato flakes was actually one of the kid friendly recipes I learned. And it still works in a pinch. In a skillet put one or two cans of stew In a skillet depending on how many people you have to feed. Make you mashed potatoes and top the stew with the potatoes. Bake in the oven until the potatoes are golden brown or to your liking. The easiest Shepherd's Pie you will ever make.
Hunts Big John’s Beans n Fixins. Gone forever. Loved that sauce mixed in.
I still love must of this
Most of them can be easily found at Walmart. So, not that hard to get at all. Very misleading title.
Right i can find just about all these can foods at Walmart , and by a lot of them too Saying their NO longer available ,but xare is a disservice to your readers .
We SO MUCH miss the Franco American Macaroni and cheese!!
Vienna sausages still in cans
You can order B & M brown bread in can from The Vermont Country Store. They also made brick oven baked beans
Loved that bread with butter and pork & beans on top. Mom made it sometimes when we came home for lunch. Yes- we left school, walked about 6 blocks to home ate, used the bathroom and trekked back to school every weekday, every season of the school year. Seems insane now.
Anyhoo, Boston Brown Bread should still be on the shelves. Order, shmorder. Just stock the stores. Lol 🤭
GIVE ME MY SNACK PAC!
I want the grandma brown baked beans back!!!!!❤❤❤❤
I find the "we want back" in the title a bit misleading, given that almost all of these products are still available, if perhaps a bit less popular than they once were.
Well, Dirty Moore has "formed meat slurry" instead of chunks of beef, Chef Boyardee is a lot sweeter and more watery (not relying on memory but rather comparing "throwback" editions to regular version BTW)... So, it is accurate to say we want the non "new and improved" versions back on a number of these...
These canned foods didn't diminish in popularity because of healthier choices. They diminished because people stopped cooking. They started eating out all the time. The fast food industry boomed.
Delmonte Fruit Salad is still for sale in the Netherlands, called Delmonte Gemengd Fruit! (Translated: Mixed Fruit)
I can find all these items 😍 and I like the pudding in the plastic containers 😊
My mom actually bought canned toss salad mix to try. The mix was all the usual salad vegies in a sweet french-type dressing. you would mix this into your fresh greens, and, there's your salad.
She also used to bring home canned potato salad.
I did like the canned chocolate pudding, the butterscotch came in second.
Libby's Corned Beef Hash discontinued? Nope its still in the stores alongside Mary Kitchen and Armour Star...
Del monte canned fruit yum❤
Franco American Spaghetti for about Doolar?
A dollar in the 1970's was an expensive price for most people in small town America, especially for a family with children as one can would not be enough.
Vienna sausages popularity is dwindling, because the generation which made them popular is dying off.
The recipe changed,it used to be beef and pork. Now it's all chicken.
I still like Dinty Moore beef stew, I just doctor it up a bit, a small amount of corn, sweet peas, 2 tablespoons of land o lake butter and 3 tablespoons of Picante sauce, medium, very tasty
Dinty More beef stew was a Sunday night staple for my suite mates and me in our small college in the mid 60’s because there was no food service on campus on Sunday night and not every kid who went off to college had a car. We were the kids of the Greatest Generation and felt lucky just to have a chance to go to college. Today it is a poor taste example of the original, believe me.
I loved Del Monte spiced peaches. They were in a glass and were had a with a sweet surpy and a cinimimon stick
The title implies that these products are no longer available. With the exception of spam spread, franco American spaghetti with cheese, Swanson chicken a la king, and B&M brown bread in the can (never had any of them), I still purchase every single product listed. And have had zero problem obtaining them. Gotta add that I pretty much only buy them for camping and when my family is out of town or not home and I'm solo eating. 😂
I buy Hormel tamales now and use them
Ditty more , the hack to that beef stew cooked over a camp fire ....camp on
Quality has nose dived since the 60s and 70s. While not canned, I miss the boil in bag meats. I guess the common use of microwaves brought an end to these tasty packages! Also you might want to fact check some of these prices, as I recall many of these would several for a dollar at times, which is when I would buy!
Swift's Premium Beef Steaks, Chef BOY-AR-DEE meat balls in gravy, real bachelor dinners of the '60s & 70s. Bring those back along with Hormel Smokeys!
Chicken ala king by swanson is STILL available. I buy it from Amazon, and it's also at Dollar stores. Still same great taste.
I'm able to find almost everything listed. Not the spam though, but everything else.
I really miss the brown bread in a can.
ALMOST EVERY single item in this is still made. The potted mead, chicken ala king, and the brown bread in a can are the only things I do not see in my stores here.
Vienna Sausages are still around. Some cans, IMO could be 100 years old, LOL
I still enjoy Vienna sausages and potted meat never liked Spam or Spam spread, ate Treet from time to time 👍🏾
I remember when dinty moore changed their gravy and then their beef. Honestly the great value brand is bettre now.
I thought that Heinz beef stew in a can was just as good if not better than Dinty Moore
I love vienna sausages with pineapple and cheese cut into squares and put on tooth picks to make pineapple hedgehogs😊😊😊 yummy 😋
The 99 cents store had hunts puddings
I loved La Choy’s canned fried rice.
I was a young adult in the 70s. I bought very few of these. The only canned items here I still buy on occasion are Spam, fruit cocktail, pineapple, pumpkin and evaporated milk. By on occasion, I mean maybe once a year. Dinty Moore beef stew was/is basically dog food, canned asian food should be outlawed, as should all canned pastas. I could never work up a taste for Chef Boyardee or La Choy anything.
I did buy Vienna sausages and potted meat when my children and grandchildren were toddlers but I tossed the last can of sausages I had some time ago. Corned beef and corned beef hash in a can give me a splitting headache, something that rarely happens to me, pudding was never tasty to me, except homemade tapioca. Mostly, I liked homemade food, I canned my own meats, soups, vegetables and fruit and baked my own bread. Store canned just wasn't tasty to me, even as a kid.
I wished they'd bring back Betty Ann canned creesy greens.
Underwood chicken spread. Thank-you brand pudding, and the Swanson's Chicken ala King. No longer available in my neck of the suburbs. A working class area, not hoi polloi. I don't get it. ☹️
I eat Hormel Tamales all the time.
I had a rough battle with salmonella from dinty Moore beef stew
I like lachoy and the chicken ala king. I really miss thr franco mac and cheese in a can!
Beefaroni still around spaghetti os❤❤
I don't understand the title of this video. Just about ALL of the products are still around!!
Love most of these items, but look at the sodium levels.🤯
The first three foods in this list are all things that are still available in most supermarkets, so I won’t bother watching the rest.
If Swanson Chicken A La King is discontinued, how do I have a can sitting in my pantry that I bought just last week?
I was eating Franco American spaghetti in 1957
Everything in this video is great...potted meat is still available in st.louis.
Beefaroni is now watered down and there's not much in the way of beef or pasta in it. These days I get my fix from Mini-Ravioli. Dinty Moore fueled many a Summer vacation fishing/hunting trip.
I never much cared for most of these products. Canned meat ,especially SPAM was BANNED in out house after my Dad returned from WWII so I never had a taste for any of it; Pudding was an occasional treat but made the hard way from a box with hot milk. We bought packs for my kids school lunches but I only ocasionally tried one. Fruit cocktail was once big at our house mixed in Jello, but my wife only bought small cans of it for the kids; Being Italian I would not touch Chef-Boy-Ardee pasta, except for an occasional can of ravioli when I was working late at the office and popped some in the microwave because I had no time to do otherwise.. Mexican and Chinese food in cans should be banned. Tamalies are wrapped in PLASTIC for that authentic Mexican flavor! Yuckk! I tried the canned Chop Suey in the 60's--Chopped Fooey ! The only product I still like is the condensed milk. Now that our kids are gone and we don't drink much milk, condensed milk for coffee makes more sense. My grandmother did this. She made a small slit in the can and then taped over it after pouring what she needed in her coffee. She kept the open can in the fridge and the tape kept food aromas from getting into the milk and kept it from accidently spilling; That small can took up less space, did not sour, and lasted a long time.
Only one missing is pepper steak made by bok choy meals.
I really like beef stew and make it fairly often. I do not like Dinty Moore Beef Stew though. I find it gross. I wish I liked it because it would be very convenient.
Chicken ala King is still sold.
Scotch Broth! From Campbells!
potted meat, spredable spam and deviled ham are pretty much the same product, don't you think?
All of these products are still available at my local Walmart. Boomers like me should be stock piling these and preparing for a massive food shortage.
Libby's "potted meat food product" is just plain nasty tasting. While hiking on the Appalachian trail, I tried it as a source of protein. The flavor is reminiscent of "ham", but it's too salty and the layer of grease on top wasn't very appealing.
I'd put it in the same category as Vienna sausages and Spam.
Eventually, l settled on canned corned beef, various jerkies and King Oscar sardines packed in olive oil.
Peanut butter was eaten almost daily, as was oatmeal.
For me, Dinty Moore beef stew and Hormel tamales were a treat on the trail.
Fond memories of them and "gorp".
ps: modern packaging makes most of what were formerly "canned" products much lighter and easier to pack.
Like most people, l now consume more fresh, less processed foods, but you can't beat them when you just want something satisfying and don't feel like cooking.
Then, l prefer slaving away over a hot microwave. LOL
My, how times have changed!
Bon apatite' !!!
Cincinnati, Ohio USA
Who did the research on this video??? Libbys Cornbeef hash is still around and so is Swanson's chicken ala king. I have them both in stock up emergency pantry.
Wth alot of these are still around ill buy dinty moore on sale..but I just prefer to make it my own for alot cheaper..and I never heard of spam spread and I loved snack packs as a kid and still do as a big kid at 41 lol
Brachs butterscotch
Two products from the mid 1800s? As in, during the Civil War? And two fruit salads looked into? Weird content choices.
Isn’t potted meat still a regular thing in Australia, and I think, Britain?
Vienna Sausage with Mustard ! Gourmet!
Vienna sausages eeeeew
I hate canned frosting!
Oh... you're supposed to COOK Vienna sausages??
A can of beef stew will kill you with the level of sodium
I never liked corned beef hash, yuck!
Spam isn't going anywhere especially with its popularity among Polynesians and poor people and you can still find libbys corn beef in the grocers and i just saw a 12 pack of it on Amazon for 12$ i think and i saw alot of these on the list at my local store and amazon and you can still find la choy products and i must've been under a rock in a time warp or something cause I just got sone betty cracker frosting from my local store 😂...oh good grief if you cant find libbys punkin filling just buy some cheap squashes and molasses and make your own punkin filling...no offense but who ever does this needs to use door dash less and go do their shopping themselves and might be surprised what they'll find ...haha as long as there's nutty preppers carnation will always be around 😂
????? So the food we want back we never got rid of and still have? Just different packages???
Ridiculous!!!!!
CHEF BOI AR DE Meatball Beef Stew !
You have just made me cry. The La Choy Chicken Chow Mein in a can. That was the stuff of nightmares.
Remember back in 1973 I remember a can of Pringles potato chips in a can and I was 8 years old going on 9 years old and I opened acan and cut my hand to hell and back and my teacher looked at me when I told her what happened to my hand it was a metal lid that cut my hand up and my teacher asked me to trade hands with her and my mom called her a smart mouth #########
