Great to see someone has mentioned the Poki Bible. Back in 2000 when I started to collect both English & Japanese, researching what cards where out there was not the easiest especially the Japanese. This book was my go to. One by one I would check-mark each card as I collected them and my ultimate goal which sadly I never achieved, was to collect them all. But someone got the big boys shown in the back of the book. :-( Currently I can't locate my book so I got a new clean one. My other one has many coloured dots stuck on each page, ticky off my haves & have- not. Keep up the great work Scott. Love your videos and passion.

So this morning I thought I would try my luck at target around 9 AM thinking maybe they had stocked over the weekend… Of course the answer was no empty shelves sad depressing just like we’ve seen for the last three months so on my way out I asked customer service if they knew when The distributor would come to restock and she informed me that they moved from a randomized schedule to a set day every week for that store and she said that store was Wednesday so Wednesday morning it is! I walk out the front door get my my car and start driving away but I look to my left towards the front door and about 30 feet away from the front door is a guy with two lawn chairs..... no effing way is he actually camping out from Monday to Wednesday morning so I had to turn around and roll down the window and yell at this crazy idiot that I kind of lowkey respect 😂 and ask him and yep sure enough he is camping out this entire time just to buy as much as he could... that’s where we are right now camping out as long as people did for the very first iPhone lol

I think another great way to collect within a budget is to consider Asian-language sets which aren't Japanese. I recently moved to South Korea and it's been really fun to collect Korean Pokémon cards. The modern sets cost a fraction of what the English ones do ($20 for a Rapid Strike booster box with 30 packs or $40 for Shiny Star V), are easily available and the card quality is amazing. I've picked up CP6 Mint Charizards for $25 and there's a healthy, local marketplace for singles and vintage cards. It's also fun to look into the older sets and the history of the TCG here. The only WOTC to release here was base set and that wasn't followed up until ADV (Ruby & Sapphire) came out in 2004. Afaik they were printed in Korea by a company called Daiwon C&A Holdings and there was only a first edition print run. So yeah, a good option if you want to collect within a budget! :)

I'm a reseller. I'm building/cataloging pics of all the old Burberrys Trench Coats... it's tough, theres soooo many varieties...even finding the catalogs is a challenge.
But it's fun, I enjoy, and I am making some profit, building skills and a few connections along the way.
    Do it baby.
I get Japan cards 1 to 2 times a week right now. Def. Some people to build a solid connect with out there for long term, maybe do some trading down the road, when I got 100 USA exclusive pikachu promos or whatever. Be a ton of fun either way shit goes ;)

Really cool video. Totally made me rethink what I'm doing with my money at the minute. A couple of years ago I started (barely) collecting Cyndaquil cards since it's my favourite Pokémon. Last few days since this video I've got more joy out of buying a few singles on eBay to carry on this collection and its costing me less than a retail-price ETB so far. I'm not an investor or flipper, so do I care more about a rainbow Ditto, or picking up some e-series singles? 12 Cyndaquils down, something like 40-odd to go.

This video is so great and honest I feel like it should be behind a paywall :) I appreciate how you validate and reinforce that it is okay to have goals in Pokémon without the obligation to shell out lots of cash for the rare stuff. I took your advice awhile ago about looking to Japan for better prices and it has worked out tremendously. I had a big list of E-series holofoil cards that I've never been able to buy in English because they would quickly bankrupt me, but after using some japan auction sites I have been able to check most of them off my list!
:) thank you so much for your content :)

Have you ever given some thought on why this dude and all the other like him do such videos? They do them in order to manipulate the market demand of specific products, based on what sort of stock they're currently sitting on. Essentially they're just fishing, throwing the bait with the appealing videos and waiting for some fish, buyers like you and many others to latch on to their bait. As you stated before the value of the book previous to his video was perceived to be around 50-80 dollars, after this dude's video went up to thousands, that said it really does not take more than few brain cells to figure out what's going on.

Am I the only one that still collects a classic, Catch 'em all Pokedex binder? You have loads of options for the older Pokemon, and each card may run you just a few cents each if you know where to go. It's not NEARLY as pricey as trying to collect full sets. To spice things up, add the Mega Evolutions, Gigantimax forms, alternate forms, regional forms, etc. and that can give you a greater challenge. Other than that, I'd say just get singles of your favorite species/artists.

I’m building a neo era binder as we speak, mostly NM, for cheaper than I thought these cards would be

CP6 holo singles are less than 20$ for most except the Charizard .. for the price you're getting mint reprints of the original japanese base and enjoying all the nostalgia that comes with it at a great price... My kinda free option is to buy lots of promo singles from general mills off ebay and donate them to friends who're getting back into collecting but having a hard time with all the scalping going on right now.. your friends get them for free and you're spreading the beautiful holo love for less than 30$

Always have to shout out buying Japanese. Way better value than English on bigger cards.
Also: The gentleman on Instagram is electabuzz1989

Yup and the condition is always great. I bought a few products that contained promo lv.x cards from 10 years ago and all of them didn't have a nic on them
