Practical skills on the water include high and low speed handling, leaving and coming alongside, man overboard recovery, close quarters handling, anchoring, securing to a mooring buoy, handling waves, safety checks and safety equipment and emergency procedures.
Powerboat theory knowledge includes types of craft and engines, engine checks, IRPCS, basic passage planning and pilotage, use of GPS and weather.
RYA Powerboat Level 2 is recommended for anyone planning to work in the professional yachting industry. It is an essential qualification for driving a tender on a superyacht and a requirement for RYA Windsurfing or Dinghy Instructor qualification.
