They're enablers who can't say no to their family member with the addiction. First time I ever saw a documentary like that, was some 900 lb. guy who had to have a wall cut out of his house to get him out and to the hospital, his wife kept bringing boxes of snack cakes to him in the hospital.

@Jacko Sargs yeah, but there is a lot of emotional baggage some of these people carry that contributes to their weight. No, it’s not forcing them to eat so much, but a lot of people, myself included, stress eat and it becomes an addiction. And as someone who struggles with weight gain myself, I can sympathize with some of these people. Weight loss is hard. And requires a mental strength that a lot of people like this just don’t have. But also, a lot of these people don’t care, or give up. So it’s much sadder when someone who is trying their best to be healthier dies because their body couldn’t handle it, Because they actually cared. But then you have people that couldn’t care less and live longer even if they’re in worse shape.

You are right, it is sad for these people. From a purely physical point of view, however, you have to consider what the whole organism does every single minute to maintain the circulation. Especially in Robert's case, I am always amazed to see that the human body is able to build up so much mass at all. At some point everything collapses. With such a mass, it's hard to get back on your feet when you lie down. Every single movement is enormously strenuous for the body. And every change (surgery, metabolism changes completely) is an additional effort for the body. You can see that very well in Robert's case, his face was grey at the end. A clear signal that the body is dying. Just think that all the energy the body gets to supply hair, skin and bones is only gained from greasy chips, burgers and cola.

That aside, it's totally subjective to determine who deserves to die and who doesn't, since that counts as playing God. What I was originally getting at is the way they emphasized how undeserved Henry's desth was, as if the majority of people deserve to die.

My uncle is a doctor and is frustrated at the hospital he works at. It's a big hospital here, well known in the Country. But his 30 years working there has taught him one thing. The people who run the hospital care more about profits than actually treating patients. Each doctor must amass a certain amount of points each year to continue working at the hospital the following year. Points are given out based on the number of patients you see a day and how long you see them. The shorter the visit, the more patients you can see, the more points you amass. The hospital purposely makes it nearly impossible to reach their annual point system so doctors must see patients (even patients that are worse off than others) for a short time periods. My uncle says it's very difficult to treat seriously ill patients in a 20-30 minute visit, when many of them need more time. He says other BIG name well known hospitals in US have the same system unfortunately. So for hospitals it's more about money than actually treating patients.

They are self-delusional and think they'll get away with it, it's the thought that "I can get away with one burger", ignoring the ultra large fries, ultra large coke they took with it and that they did it in the morning... and the previous day. Because eating a salad one day a week really doesn't have that big a difference but they have deluded themselves into thinking it will.
The bigger issue is blood sugar, most obese people are addicted to the sugar high and then when insulin kicks in they feel depressed and the only way to resolve that is to again get more sugar. It's basically an addiction, most people who take heroin are going to know it can kill them but they still take more anyways, excessive sources of sugar and carbs are basically the same. The addicts of course justify their addiction but with sugar, it tends to be the case that rather than assisting the addict that the people closest to them are unwittingly enabling that person (because the enablers are often in denial too).

300 lbs of lost weight is no joke, correct. Nobody was making a joke. From a medical point it was merely an observation that sometimes people with addictive behavior seek help too late. The body has already had enough, and been through too much. Excessive amounts of weightloss puts a strain on the heart, just like when a drug addict quits doing drugs. Kelly may not have gone back to her old ways, but her body had already begun the process of shutting down. The same thing happened to George Carlin. A once infamous comedian whom was addicted to drugs his whole life and career. He quit doing drugs, and his body still gave out two years later from organ failure. His organs couldn't take the detox. Just like Kelly's organs couldn't handle the weight loss. It's sad. 😥

When I had my surgery, I had to change EVERYTHING about what I eat and make sure I didn't regain the weight. We can't eat a lot at once, but we can eat all day long. Unless we address the addiction with therapy, we'll never be free.

He DOES care. I don’t think he could do the work he does or chosen this field if he didn’t. He has show over and over he truly cares for every single patient he treats.
I think when he has to drop patients who refuse to follow his program, his blunt truthfulness does not come from a place of anger (I’m sure frustration plays a role though). It comes but from a place of concern, sadness, and disappointment. He knows every patient he drops WILL die if they don’t return. And he also realizes these patients have this truly incredible opportunity provided to them- and they don’t seem to get that. For every patient who enters his program without a resolute determination to lose weight, another patient that might have made it is denied that chance.

Addiction is so painful. I would never wish it on anyone, and this type of extreme eating is an addiction. I was 270 pounds at age 14.
I could’ve gone down this road of food addiction but then I tried heroin at age 15 and stopped eating. I lost about 100 pounds in a year. When I was addicted, I just kept doing more and more to try and feel like I did the first time again, and after 5 years I was doing so much that I had overdosed twice and had to be saved with narcan. Every time I shot up I knew it could be the last time, but I still did it.
I remember looking in the mirror one time when I was really high and my gums were like a gray-blue color, I went to sleep and woke up in the hospital. That was one of the overdoses. I had no regard for my life and didn’t care if it ended as long as I could get high. That’s how much of a vice grip addiction has on you. You will do anything for it, things that make you hate yourself.
The point is, if you’ve never been through addiction, try to understand that this is the severity of what we deal with. If something has such a hold on you that you’ll die for it, you will do just about anything else under the sun for it as well. This is how people can eat themselves to death, or kill themselves with drugs. It’s a tragic existence. We do it because we hate ourselves and don’t think we deserve anything more than languishing in a pit of despair. It takes a lot of work on your mental health to start to get past it. It took me 5 years of therapy to even be somewhat at peace with myself.

If the person you are with gains weight as long as it doesn't truly effect the quality of life for you or your partner be accepting of the fact bodies change over time... (weight gain-loss hair-loss teeth can fall out ect...) You are dating that individual not the shell they are imprisoned in. Don't tell them they are fat or going bald (some women go bald too) they are well aware. LOOKS ARE NOT EVERYTHING BUT YOUR HEALTH AND WELL BEING IS. This isn't a typical 50 year old - 50 lb over weight pot belly husband we are talking about... LIKE HOW IN THE ACTUAL FUCK CAN YOU GET THIS FAT WITHOUT SOMEONE ENABLING THEM.
