I saw them live over the just-ended winter. They are still amazing!! Powerful and skilled. And Rob Halford, singing metal in his 70s, is an inspiration.
No KK Downing, the founder and heart of the band, no Priest. The JP spirit is gone and the primadonnas wanted to keep him out for petty reasons even though he was the one to bring Rob back...

@@MatthewHelmke The Hall of Fame was a cute in-and-out semi-reunion probably also motivated by saving face because of the vast fan criticism Rob, Glenn and Ian were seeing (if they were paying attention), so not because of innate maturity. Otherwise it would have happened earlier and would continue. Even current guitarist Richie Faulkner had very diplomatically lamented the situation where his band mates were refusing to see things from another perspective as to make good relations based on understanding. So in that performance there was still unresolved underlying issues, but every fan, even the ones who realize The RNRHOF actually is a ridiculous thing, can be happy for the classic JP members because it was meaningful to them. Keeping the fire alive 🔥 from the original to the newer bonfires born from it.
@@minkahl1644 Without KK and Glen I have nothing to care about anymore. Rob is amazing of course, but his voice isn't what it used to be.
Judas Priest is the soundtrack of my life. This band is one of the most versatile and inovative rock artists ever. Go for Victim.of Changes and Beyond of the Realms of Death. Judas Priest FOREVER.

I'm a huge fan of Judas Priest. Way back in 1983/84, Screaming For Vengeance was literally the first thing I bought with money from my first job (paper delivery route). That established, as a long time fan, this is rough to watch. To anyone thinking "What are you talking about?! That performance was badass!", do us both a favor and check out the 1983 live version of this song from Dortmund.
What a fun reaction! The Priest always delivers the goods.

This song lifted Heavy Metal from the darkness of underground into the spotlight all around the world.
Doug, my suggestions for next Judas Priest song are Victim of Changes (the version from the Unleashed In The East album) and Beyond The Realms of Death. Great songs with Rob singing at his best.

Next time around I recommend one of these Judas Priest songs: either Beyond the Realms of Death, Diamonds and Rust, Victim of Changes, The Green Manalishi, Desert Plains, or The Sentinel
The Green Manalishi is a Peter Green song, performed by Fleetwood Mac in the late sixties. The original version is quite different from the JP one. You probably know all this already.

Diamonds and Rust is amazing. To think of Judas Priest doing a Joan Baez tune is great.

I 2nd Diamonds and Rust, the one on youtube titled: Judas Priest-Diamonds and Rust. From the Rising in the East DVD.
Hellion/Electric Eye was the kickoff for the album and it was the opening for my first ever concert on the Screaming For Vengeance tour. They definitely get you jacked up and ready for the rest of it.
And Rob didn't even charge them for the vocal lesson. Bravo!

Without spines they have several excellent songs that are so well built.
When a band has a good vocalist it's halfway to success.
Yet another band that is cherished by generations to come.

Ear's used to ring for day's after seeing Priest in the 80s.
I've never seen them live, but I have heard that Rob holds the crowd in his hand during the show.
I saw priest... some 3 months ago here in Bogotá... along with the so called Pantera nonPantera... it was my fourth Priest show, and I gotta say it was the best. Rob is singing like he was 25... Scott Travis as awesome a drummer as always... and the new guys kicked arse! And they sure kicked Pantera's and everyone else's asses... long live to the Priest!
I love these reaction videos from all different people, but I always find it so hard to believe people have never heard most of these songs they react to.
My 1st ever metal concert was Judas Priest when they toured this album in 82. Rob rolled out on stage on a revving Harley. I've been a metalhead ever since. 🤟🤟
This is an incredibly fun video, and probably my favorite priest moment. And yes - that is one hell of a hard driving riff. Good luck finding something that hits harder than this. Would love to have been in that crowd.
First song I ever heard by Priest when it came out on MTV. It is the first riff I remember ever getting stuck in my head. This song opened the door to "harder" metal for me and was one of those pivot points in music for me :)
This man still got it even as he ages. His voice is amazing but you should check out more live from when he was younger. Rob halford is every range!
I'm always reminded of a singer I played with got some words wrong (no time to take a respite) singing no time to take a rest yet. When I explained it he said 'What's the difference' and we both had a good laugh.
Love your enthusiasm for "The Priest" here, Doug!! I'm just going to add my voice to the many others that have already posted here in the same regard for the ultimate Judas Priest song. "VICTIM... OF CHANGES!!", from their classic, live, 1979 "Unleashed in the East" album. This song is considered to be second only in their ENTIRE catalog to "Painkiller".
It has compositional, musical dynamics, galore. There are some, well-recognized, musical journalists that have pointed out how this song changed, or even ultimately defined, Heavy Metal. You can't go wrong, here.

I had this album shortly after it came out. My first metal album. Picture me as a naive freshman in high school sitting on the floor in my bedroom with my jaw on the floor. Fast forward to Nov 10, 1990, Painkiller tour, San Diego. I took my fiance, aHUGE Priest fan, to see them along with Megadeth and Testament. What a show!!
This was the first Priest track I ever heard, way back in the early 80s. Been a fan ever since.
Because of the timing of Judas Priests entry onto the world stage right between the giants of the late 60's/early 70's and the California Hair band era of the 80's, they find themselves in a unique place musically. When said and done, they just continued to peak, again and again till there was no where to go, so they just pummeled the scene with a couple more intense albums and called it a day IMO.
When I saw them the 'fake' speakers under the raised drum riser parted like double doors and Halford rode his baby out front.

I saw them on last december, for 7th time...GREAT SHOW!! with Stryper, Behemoth, Mercyful Fate and the Return of Pantera!!! Halford Still being the Metal God
A live version of Victim of Changes would be great to do. Rob’s vocal range on that one is spectacular, and the different musical styles throughout the song are really interesting.
Unleashed in the East is probably the best live version when he was relatively young.
You should definitely look at Savatage’s ‘Streets’ album - it’s a really cool concept album they wrote
The 83 tour versions show them amped up another level. Great memories of their live performsnes.

I have seen them live a few times and they are killer live!!!! Rob basically never stops moving on stage. He can still wail with the best of them. My last time seeing them was pre- Covid when they opened for Deep Purple. What a double bill!

Appreciate your three reaction videos to Judas Priest. Have been listening to and seeing them in concerts for over 45 years. Please consider reacting to the live version of "Victim of Changes" at the U.S. music festival of 1983 in California. Also " Beyond the Realms of Death ". A live version would be great. These two songs are deeply rooted in the psychological problems we all potentially face. After hearing your reaction to Ren "Hi Ren" brings me, and I am sure many other music fans, to mental health issues we all might be keeping from others. I've seen them several times (maybe I only saw more times Devin Townsend I think, Last time a week ago), and they always do the show, they are the greatest metal band ever, and they are González be forever.

I've seen Judas Priest over twenty times and they're always great. I highly recommend the studio version of beyond the realms of death.

Slight correction Doug, this version had Scott Travis on drums not Dave Holland, Scott joined the band in 1990 and is still there. More Priest needed, songs like Hammer and the Anvil, Blood Red Skies, Beyond the Realms of Death, Night Crawler. I could go on forever.

This was in Ft Lauderdale. I was actually at this concert. Was really great. You should really do Cathedral Spires. It is with a different singer when Halford left for a time, but it is an amazing song.
Fun fact: They put this song on the album because there were 5 minutes missing.

Ya, I thought Doug's piano riffing could have made an excellent accompzmiment.
I think the blues influence comes mostly from Glenn...you can hear it in many of his solos, moreso than in KK's.
Ian Hill is fundamentally a jazz bassist, having learned it from his jazz bassist father. He provides the bluesy foundation. Ian is too often overlooked. He's solid. Not a busy bassist or glamorous but he is the foundation of it all. Of course, Priest started as a blues-based hard rock band. They were likely the first metal band to largely shed the blues for a whole album when they made British Steel.

The signum of the NWOBHM shows are that you always sit or stand there with a big smile, emerged in the music! I am a big fan of JP, ALL incarnations. So my recommendation is Cathedral Spires with Tim ”Ripper” Owens, just beacause it is one of their best songs.
Great band to see in concert. Be prepared, they play LOUD.
Should check out more Priest, they have such a breadth of musical styles and this has always been their overall message and attitude; to be steadfast and believe in yourself despite setbacks and adversity, and there will be much adversity, truly a great and unique band. Thanks Doug!

You can tell even back then that Rob was struggling with the high notes. I know it's the end of the show, but when you sing that high in the 70's and 80's, it's no wonder it becomes difficult 30/40/50 years later. I can't hit high notes at all anymore and I'm the same age Halford was here.
Priest are just one of the greates Metal bandas of all time, and Rob Halford is getting older, but his voice isn't....and that's amazing!!! you should check one of the live performances of "Diamonds and Rust"!!! Cheers from Portugal!!!

I really enjoyed that one! I think you would really dig "Run of the Mill." It's a song from their first album, released back in '74. Quite amazing in my opinion.
Recommendations: "Victim of Changes" and "The Green Manalishi (with the Two Pronged Crown)" - particularly live versions of both. Judas Priest's Unleashed in the East album have great versions, and Live Aid had a great version of the Green Manalishi.
