Those mid 70’s Johnson’s are strong ! Disconnect the fuel line and get a 6 gal. Boat tank and mix your gas at 50:1 , you could run stable with it or a carb cleaner but don’t run it without water ! You WILL take the impeller out and you don’t want that ! Good luck on your project ! Tri-hulls are known for stability on the water !
tri-hulls are stable boats for fishing. that old,1977 140 you have was a real power house. i had one on an old,16ft checkmate. ran around 60mph. i just built a 15.6 glastream, tri hull. has a 90hp yamaha. runs almost 50mph.
For the age of that Johnson it looked excellent! on the outside, some carb clean up, some seafoam in the cylinders, I bet it runs like a champ👍, new impeller, prop serviced, it'll be good as new.😎. The boat has a weak transom. Look at the aluminum angle transom cap and you'll see at each Outer End is not against the boat, shows that the top of the transom is leaning out.
I got mine for $100 i got it running no problem I have the same motor 1978 Johnson V4 2 stroke on 1978 Thunderbird Bird Signa 17 Tri Hull, it runs strong 💪 I have a lot fun and shes 43 years old
11:00 A tree growing out of a pillow - now I've seen it all in boat restorations. BTW: engine been sitting still for a long time? First check compression. If ok continue by replacing the impeller and check & change the gear oil. Cleaning the carb is also advisable.
Hey Justin, looking forward to following along for the restoration! One of my best friends had a Invader, different style but still always look out for them now. Some good channels to follow for stuff like this are; th-cam.com/users/EricsFarmvideos th-cam.com/channels/cDqQAcQi-DSLK8Wv9iTtiA.htmlvideos And for fishing boat builds and electrical and bait wells; th-cam.com/users/TH3TITAN360videos

Do you recommend them, if you can get them for cheap?
Camron Ramsey I do if the price is right ! Those fiberglass boats around here are either super cheap or free !
Thank you!

Couldn’t believe you got this thing for $150. Then I saw you climb in with the shovel!
Pt.2 please! I just got an old mfg and need advice on how to replace the floor boards
Just picked up a very similar boat! excited to see what you do with it!
Thanks for watching! How does yours run?
recently got one that we had to pull out of the field, very similar to the one here only mine has a 120 hp Mercruiser.

They are good motors for sure! Thanks for watching!
I bet that ole Johnson 140 was still good 👍🏻, I have an 81 Johnson 115 that is a trooper. Ran great for over 12 years now
Looking back, I wish I’d kept it. Hindsight I suppose. Hopefully the guy I sold her to got it running again.
I have nearly the same boat a 1977 arrow glass cheetah that came with a 1977 Evinrude 140
Good start so far. Waiting on part 2. #antcity
