I worked as a Conductor going from Roseville Ca. to Portola through the Feather River Canyon with the Southern Pacific and now Union Pacific. Pretty scenery.
Used to love walking the tracks through uninhabited areas. Just enjoying the quiet and solitude of being alone with my thoughts and at peace from the cluttered world.
Amazing feather river rail roads, best videos.Train journey is most entertaining journey comparing to other means. Thanks to all railway employees who dedicated their lives for railways.
Back in the day, I remember the all streamlined, silver, California Zephyr storming out of the Feather River Canyon, reaching a top speed of 120 MPH. One of the most beautiful sights in the world!!
Feather river is an absolutely amazing rout, rather you cab ride, passenger train, or hop a freight, one of the most beautiful routs I have ever personally ridden.
Nice video. I work the BNSF side of this run and it is truly amazing. Thank you for the posting, I shared it to facebook to show distant relatives and friends what amazing work I have.
Fantastic video...it's almost a short documentary of types. Thanks for all of the time you must have spent on this....getting some many camera angles and locations.
One thing this vid shows is the amazing skill and daring of those who built this rail track bridges and crossovers awesome scenery this would be a great place to run a tourist train
I went to highschool in Oroville and Jr high in Quincy. Lived a few places along highway 70 in the feather river canyon. I loved it there and want to go back when I retire. I miss the trains and the beautiful canyon places.
Truly an amazing route. Unique in all of train-dom. I've wanted to actually go see it for myself for a long time. I hope I get to sometime. Thanks for posting this! And yes, requires slow speeds alright .... good brakes in one direction, and, a ton of fuel in the other.
my father was store keeper at Elko, Winnamucca and Portola in the 1930's with the WPRR...He traveled these very rails in your beautiful video. Excellent framing and editing. I have a treasure trove of WPRR photos, documents and stories from my father that I am working into a story of sorts...
I used to go trout fishing on the Feather, mostly the tributary streams. Chips creek, Chambers creek, Spanish creek and a nice inflow just about under the trestle at Tobin. Can't remember the name of it. Hung out a bit at Tobin when it was in business. Not a bad watering hole. Hauled lumber out of Quincy for a good many years. The Feather River highway was about as interesting for an 18 wheeler as the railroad was for a locomotive. Rocks! Damned rocks and slides. As they said, slow going. Well, no point in trying to hurry, there was always another corner ahead. Rode the California Zephyr to Chicago, lo those many years ago. Army days back in the early 60s. Train ticket from Sacramento to Ayer, Mass was $78.00 if I recall correctly. Brings back some memories. Drinking gin with the off duty conductor(?) in a forward car heading down the Eastern slope of the Continental Divide. Asked him how fast we were going and he said about 103-105 mph on that stretch. I was impressed. Changing trains in Chicago. Ah hell, wish that I could do it all over again.
This is why i want to become a train engineer, working with the equipment, but mostly going on the track that leads u to these amazing views in the mountain, beautiful i tell u what!
Men, this was fantastic, such a great adventure. I expected for centuries for a movie like this, once this complex of Feather River was not clear to me how it functions. Thank you.
I am sure all those containers enjoyed the splendid views. This used to be a passenger line operated by the Western Pacific railroad. I took it many times.
I loved to see this video! Shot in a variaty of angles and rich in sounds! It gives a good view of the situation and the colors are spectacular! Nice commentary too!!! Thanks and greetings from the south of Chile!
I was lucky enough years ago to get a ride from Sacramento to Portola on a train being pulled by 3985, one of the best train rides I've been on. Usually drive through the canyon a few times a year, always fun.
Thanks for posting the seven wonders of the rail road tracks. A total different view of the tree forest. It looks like a fake movie the way every thing looks, but it is a true video.
Very nice video When I was 'young n dumb' I used to joyride between Oroville and Portola on the last of the Western Pacific runs. Probably get arrested today, but that was one beautiful ride on a flatcar!
I could watch for hours and hours and hours, never tiring of the sounds of engines, horns and bells. I liv maybe a block from a grade crossing, which is one of six, so I hear the engines long before and after they pass thru the town I liv in. Lovin' it
+Mick Carson You'd probably need more than one 4 X 8 plywood. I made a Tehachapi Loop with 'N' gauge and had a heck of a time making it work. Should have gone with an 8 X 8. No room though.
rode this route on original CA Zephyr with a tour group. I remember going thru the Feather River Canyon on WP. and I have did the SP route over the Sierras at Donner Pass too.
Interesting video...and remarkable bridges! Unbelievable that they were able to build these type of bridge structures so long ago... Thanks for the upload.
I grew up there, every shot was within 20 miles of my house. Highway 70 down the Feather River Canyon between Oroville and Quincy is a very scenic drive. In fact it's the only highway across the Sierra Nevada mountains that carries the designation of Scenic Byway.
I up voted this. I don't know why anyone would down vote it. I've been a lover of railroads for 61 years since I was 3, and left New York City on a train for Cleveland Ohio powered by a steam locomotive. Even at that age I was so awestruck at the locomotive it was burned into my memory.
Wow beautiful beach location Bachpan Se Hi Hamen train ki video bahut pasand hai bachpan ki yaden taaja Hoti Hai 3 Sal Humne up down kiya tha rojana train mein train ki location train mein ghumna bahut Achcha lagta hai Barish mein bhi maja Aata Hai Bus Dekhte Hi Rahenge Panch din tak bahut Anand Milta Hai छोटी-छोटी bacchon Ke train bhi bahut acchi Lagti Hai India Gujarat Surat se thank u thank u Veri Mach video beautiful aur bhi Aage video banaaiye Dekhte Hi Rahenge aur enjoy karte rahenge aur support karte rahenge
Overwhelming, these constructions ! Nearly a must-be on a model track, but one would need too much room for all these nice objects. In fact: It is something for a train simulator; like the horseshoe curve in Pennsylvania.
Amazing video to watch. Another piece of American railroad history, past and present. Great close-up's of those BNSF engines. Those railroad bridges are a real sight to see as well. Another great rail adventure. I'll have to watch this again. Thanks for one great video.
That is so cool. Alot of the area looks like the Burlington/Northern route that use to go West from Missoula, Montana, through Saltise and over Lookout Pass. They took the rails out along time ago, but you can drive where the tracks use to be, and over the tall bridges, like the one shown in your video. I have not been up there for years, so I am not sure they will still let you drive on it. We found it by accident when we were cutting fire wood.
What an awesome video. Loved the scenery. My god-father was a cook on the Union Pacific back in the 30's, 40's and 50's until the early 60's. I have special place in my heart for trains. Used to live up in Quincy and Greenville back in the 60's. Sure was beautiful back then. Thanks so much for sharing.
that Y bridge at the end is pretty cool, with both roads using it simultaneously and the modified tunnel portal being blasted to fit the newer intermodal double stacks. Thats kinda interesting details of anyone ever wanted to model this area. The dual wye bridge would be a really cool model.
I have this route as add-on in MS Train Sim, and it is a fun trip through very accurate representation of the route, including all the famous bridge and tunnel landmarks.
Loved the video, ya know, something I dont see anymore, is Hobo's who ride the trains, tucked in between the cars, or open Boxcars, used to see them all the time back in the late 60's and 70's. not anymore.
What a great detail. Loco trucks when start rolling. This location is one of my favorite western rail sites along with Tehachapi Loop and Cajon Pass. I hope to visit this place and run it on board THE CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR or in a private train either on a dome car or the locomotive cab. Of course also to have my own films and photographs.
Wow 4engines pulling never seen that before. I am not so much into the train as i am into the bridges. Those have got to be some super steel holding up those bridges.
There is a video about unit coal trains in North Carolina on a very steep grade that makes the draw bar issue clearer. When the head end goes past the top he needs brakes - the back is still going up pushed from behind. If you let the front weight pull the back up, the draw bat can break and now you have two halves on either side if the crest
I live near Tehachapi. The loop is great, but there's an awesome horseshoe curve in Caliente, Ca., which is just a couple exits west of the Keene (Loop) exit. The thing that's nice is you get a clear view of single rail line trains coming all the way down the hill and around the curve. There's no trees affecting the view as it's basically a mountain desert environment
I was fortunate to have lived near two of the best train watching areas in CA, Tehachapi and the Feather River Canyon. This brings back great memories. Thanks for shooting it.
I´m glad you did this video! Fantastic show! Thanks! And by the way, this is only possible in USA when thinking of a railroad passing over so far distances and on the way it do. In Europe with with that many countrys and traditions it wouldn´t be possible. Here they talk about more tracks when USA already is carrying one extra container on top and on ( i guess) the same old bridges and slopes as before...
I worked as a Conductor going from Roseville Ca. to Portola through the Feather River Canyon with the Southern Pacific and now Union Pacific. Pretty scenery.
So did my dad.
Used to love walking the tracks through uninhabited areas. Just enjoying the quiet and solitude of being alone with my thoughts and at peace from the cluttered world.
The greatness of nature is so great that the bridges and the train look like toys. Superb video guides us where we can not go.
Amazing feather river rail roads, best videos.Train journey is most entertaining journey comparing to other means. Thanks to all railway employees who dedicated their lives for railways.
Feather river system is amazing
Back in the day, I remember the all streamlined, silver, California Zephyr storming out of the Feather River Canyon, reaching a top speed of 120 MPH. One of the most beautiful sights in the world!!
I remember the California Zephyr as well. I rode the train a lotta times.
Feather river is an absolutely amazing rout, rather you cab ride, passenger train, or hop a freight, one of the most beautiful routs I have ever personally ridden.
some of the most amazing engineering feats are only ever seen by train drivers, great video thanks
It's rare to have such a perfect blend of nature and technology.
This video was just...way cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And unlike some of your other "admirers", thanks for gettong close to those trains!!!!!!!!!!
Nice video. I work the BNSF side of this run and it is truly amazing. Thank you for the posting, I shared it to facebook to show distant relatives and friends what amazing work I have.

Thankyou very much for a thoroughly professional offering .It makes me very relaxed to watch the procession of Iron Horses.
Truly an amazing route. Unique in all of train-dom. I've wanted to actually go see it for myself for a long time. I hope I get to sometime. Thanks for posting this! And yes, requires slow speeds alright .... good brakes in one direction, and, a ton of fuel in the other.
I have driven past the Keddie Wye dozens of times, along with the other sites. Amazing to see them on video.
This is another example of why Northern California is such a great place to live and work.
I miss this stretch of hwy. Living in Plumas County, I had to travel along Feather River. Beautiful. Just beautiful. Thanks.
my father was store keeper at Elko, Winnamucca and Portola in the 1930's with the WPRR...He traveled these very rails in your beautiful video. Excellent framing and editing. I have a treasure trove of WPRR photos, documents and stories from my father that I am working into a story of sorts...
Awesome video, The great US railroads and scenery, a truly industrious nation,
Wow! beautiful bridges, very nice video, thanks for sharing

THIS IS A AMAZING ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE IF YOU THINK AND MAKE IT HAPPEN
One of the absolute best railroading video's I've seen on TH-cam. Loved you getting that crew change out in the middle of nowhere. Great!
Never ending respect for the people who built/d and maintain railroads.
Arthur Keddie was a genius. The Western Pacific was his idea/dream, and he was designer of what is now known as the Keddie Wye.
I live in England and love the trains in your country. great vidio. Well done!
Wow! .... You are right at where these trains are at! Take care!
This is why i want to become a train engineer, working with the equipment, but mostly going on the track that leads u to these amazing views in the mountain, beautiful i tell u what!
Beautiful scenic views with these trains.
Men, this was fantastic, such a great adventure.
I expected for centuries for a movie like this, once this complex of Feather River was not clear to me how it functions.
Thank you.
I used to joy-ride between Oroville and Portola. Still remember the long tunnels and awesome views.
What an amazing collection of railroad infrastructure!
I am sure all those containers enjoyed the splendid views. This used to be a passenger line operated by the Western Pacific railroad. I took it many times.
Something most Reno/Sparks folks have never seen. Myself included. It's winter and it looks like summer there. Love trains.
Wow! what a ride that would be! I love trains!!!
Thanks for posting the seven wonders of the rail road tracks. A total different view of the tree forest. It looks like a fake movie the way every thing looks, but it is a true video.
By far one of the best railroad videos I have ever seen. The editing was perfect and you caught many great angles. Nice job, mate!
A really good video.thankyou
Very nice video When I was 'young n dumb' I used to joyride between Oroville and Portola on the last of the Western Pacific runs. Probably get arrested today, but that was one beautiful ride on a flatcar!

Very nice work! interesting sites and narratives ! Thanks! Enjoyed!
Thanks for the upload as a signal engineer i loved it.
I could watch for hours and hours and hours, never tiring of the sounds of engines, horns and bells. I liv maybe a block from a grade crossing, which is one of six, so I hear the engines long before and after they pass thru the town I liv in. Lovin' it
I live in Sweden. fun to se railway in other country. Well done movie!
It would be great to be an engineer, you get to see a lot of scenery that you cant see from the roads/highways.
Thanks for sharing this.

I will be driving thru that canyon this afternoon. Great drive really. Nice vid. I think the automobile road is almost as spectacular in many areas.
One of the best railroad videos I have seen
Beautiful. I wish I had this setting as a railway display. I'd spend hours trying to make one train go west and the other go east.
+Mick Carson You'd probably need more than one 4 X 8 plywood. I made a Tehachapi Loop with 'N' gauge and had a heck of a time making it work. Should have gone with an 8 X 8. No room though.

What a fine country you have there.

coltsfan79 Yes it is absolutely Beautiful. You're lucky to have so much wonder for the soul.
Been to feather river falls..... beautiful!!
This video is spectacular! It's hard to imagine the effort that went into it. Thanks for sharing.
I just love US railroads. Great stuff guys!!

True nature beauty and excellent engineering skills

Reduced traffic or not, definitely a locale that I'd say is certainly worth visiting.
Amazing video to watch. Another piece of American railroad history, past and present. Great close-up's of those BNSF engines. Those railroad bridges are a real sight to see as well. Another great rail adventure. I'll have to watch this again. Thanks for one great video.
This is American technoligy at its finest, The standard of the world. 5/5
50 dislikes--what's not to like about this amazing video???

Danke fuer dieses Video.
Herrliche Landschaft mit geiler Technik :)

WOW! That was fun. Great vid. Thanks
Very professionally done videos. You have a follower
Great stuff. Good seeing those patched units of the Q, GN, NP & SP&S! Being from the midwest, I never have been out there to see the wye live.
Amazing! Thank you for putting it on youtube. I would love to come out there and see all that!
Super excellent video my friend, i really enjoyed watching it
Beautiful video and great vantage points. Glad you took them, though, as I hate heights.
Beautiful. Compliments from Holland.
Wow!! I like trains, but Im watching the scenery more!!!
Excellent video
Wonderful,Greatful and Amazing Railroad.😍😍👍👍
Looks like one helluva a future Rails to Trails project
I live in the US and love the passenger trains in England. In particular in a first class coach with beer!
I have this route as add-on in MS Train Sim, and it is a fun trip through very accurate representation of the route, including all the famous bridge and tunnel landmarks.
Amazing video! Makes my heart thump with anticipation to visit this area.
Loved the video, ya know, something I dont see anymore, is Hobo's who ride the trains, tucked in between the cars, or open Boxcars, used to see them all the time back in the late 60's and 70's. not anymore.
It seems like you went to some great effort and hiking to record this clip - especially at Keddie Wye. Thanks much for the effort.

My brother and I camped next to the tracks for a couple of nights at Bealville in 1989.
I was fortunate to have lived near two of the best train watching areas in CA, Tehachapi and the Feather River Canyon. This brings back great memories. Thanks for shooting it.
that's why i love humans... good explain bro

Awesome video! Great camera work! I totally enjoyed watching this video!
Amazing footage, Will have to agree with the seven railroad wonders of the world, Thanks
I rode thru years ago on original California Zephyr with Western Pacific on their section of the train Awesome.
