    This is a good demonstration of how rail building and/or repair goes so much faster than a concrete or asphalt road. In wartime, rail traffic can be up and running quickly.

We already saw them put the track down I think it was more interesting watching the transfer table in operation.

Because Cali got the BigBoy & alot of other cool and long trains. FEC 121 is on its way and I need to get trackside. Im soooooooo glad you caught this. This is something thats rare. Almost as rare as a turntable , (if they still exist). Great Catch. This has made my morning.

      @@brit1066 Not true; there are 2 other instruments and a bit of drum kit in background, and there's a little variation in the way the basic motif is repeated. There is a little more going on than "precisely 5 notes" :-) It was a cute little taste of something that, given a little more time, could go somewhere. Bearing in mind that it's just a snippet, I think you underrate what you're hearing here.

    The infrequency of this operation doesn't justify the cost of a permanent track. I worked for UP did this once. We crossed over, picked up a car and bought it back to the Locomotive Works. They only restore cars for the rail museum at the locomotive works, which was built by Western Pacific long ago.

    The CSRM just recently constructed a unique, but permanent, "raised diamond" that does not interfere with UP operations and is available at any time for CSRM use. Check the CSRM facebook page for the story and photos.

  • @bob39434
    @bob39434 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Adding a diamond would mean that Amtrak Capitol and other trains would have to slow to 40 mph in an otherwise 79 mph area. As infrequently as CSRM needs to cross the UP main line, a temp crossover is the best solution for both.

    • @glenn6936

      Yeah, "sack o tomatoes" can be boring, huh? Railroad activity is always exciting for railfans. To see a museum piece like the F-3 (over 50 years old) being accommodated is a bit exciting; however, a good deal of the excitement comes from seeing the shops activity in the video as well. At this time, I understand a standard crossover has now been built to avoid this unusual way of crossing.

  • @robertgift
