IF YOU GET A BLACK SCREEN ON HELLDIVERS 2 YOU NEED TO CHANGE THE FULLSCREEN OPTION
go to your wine prefix that steam created for you by finding your appid by proprieties on the game in the steam library, updates, you'll see your appid, then go to your steam folder where helldivers was installed on, compatdata, find the appid folder, pfx, drive_c, users, steamuser, AppData, Roaming, Arrowhead, Helldivers2
then open the user_settings.config file in your text editor
you want to change fullscreen = true to fullscreen = false

hey great man thx for showing another epic video .keep going thx much
I had no idea about them recommending ext4 i wa susing ntfs and ran into all kinds of issues. Thank you!
Haha yeah a lot of people i see on reddit often get into this problem, linux doesnt play nice with ntfs with proton but ext4 and btrfs are better anyways then ancient ntfs lol, anyways have fun!
Helldivers worked perfectly for me out of the gate for me on Fedora 40. Just needed to update the user config to "fullscreen: false" or it would stay black screened
Is the user config like in the wine prefix that steam creates for you? So a config that would be used in windows normally?
@linuxnext yes, basically. It's way down inside the home folder under your c drive. If you search "hd2 won't launch on linux" it's like the first option
For some reason i've been having weird frame drops, even tho steam's frame counter stays locked at 60, the game is obviously losing a lot of frames. Any ideas? thanks. I have an rtx 4070ti so the game should be no issue. I am also running the latest nvidia drivers (555) and ive also tried the 535 and 550, but so far 555 has had the best performance for me. Ive also tried multiple proton version but still, not much difference
Very unsure as it does not happen for me on amd
on ubuntu studio new rx 590 nitro intel E3-1240 v3 on 12gb ddr3 run it dx 11 in steam will pull 88 fps easy i limit mine to 60 never dips
Its been pretty plug and play on Linux for me, on arch (endeavoros) I did have the issue previously with fullscreen but that seems to have been patched out for me, runs fantastically aswell.
Weird. I have played all of my 70ish hours on endeavour and had problems since yesterday. I tried a bunch of proton versions, with and without shader cashing, forcing dx11, fullscreen and windowed...nothing did the trick. I have an R5 3600 and an RX6700, so all AMD.
@@mattg8888 I used to have crashing issues also, until I limited my framerate and turned the resolution scaling to native and only proton experimental worked for me
@@sydneyyourpal3403 thanks. I am not able to get in the game anymore. I am doing a complete wipe of my system and will also reinstall helldivers (as it is on a secondary drive).
You could just have tried clearing the wine prefix, this has all of the windows files for helldivers 2 to work, then you would verify the game and try it again on the latest proton
You find the appid of the game by properties on the game on steam, updates, then go to where the game is stored, go to compatdata and find the appid folder for helldivers 2, delete it and then verify and relaunch
@@linuxnext I honestly am very new to Linux and still learning. A lot. So that is very helpful to me, thank you.
can you share please the wallpaper, excellent video by the way

@@linuxnext Thanks
I just built my first PC and have it dual booted with Linux and Windows 10. Does Helldivers perform similar in Linux to how it does in Windows? I float between 120-165fps on Windows with ultra settings.
Depends on the gpu, for me i get roughly the same fps with my amd rx 6700 + ryzen 6700 which is around 100fps on medium, what do you have?
@@linuxnext Got it! I have a Ryzen 7 7800x3d and a Radeon RX 7900 XT. I run Helldivers at 1440p. It runs great on Windows! I am getting Linux set up now
Alright well for amd you need to be running a newish version of mesa and the kernel, what distro did you pick?
Also use the latest proton experimental so you get the newest patches for vkd3d/dx12
New Linux (Mint 21.3 Cinnamon) user here. I try to boot up the game from Steam, and nProtect's FAQ page pulls up every time instead of the game launching. I'm p sure I got the graphics (NVIDIA A3000 + driver 535) and upgraded the kernel to 6.5, so am not sure what the issue is (tried providing a lengthier comment, but youtube keeps taking it down).
That is what its supposed to do but it also is supposed to launch the game aswell when that happens lol
What partition is the game installed on? And are you using any launch commands.
Have you tested other games aswell?
System info output:
Partition:
ID-1: / size: 465.29 GiB used: 111.37 GiB (23.9%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/dm-1 mapped: vgmint-root
ID-2: /boot size: 1.61 GiB used: 623.4 MiB (37.9%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/nvme0n1p2
ID-3: /boot/efi size: 511 MiB used: 6.1 MiB (1.2%) fs: vfat dev: /dev/nvme0n1p1
I didn't dedicate any partition to Helldivers (not sure if I can w/o messing up anything).
For launch commands, I'm using
gamemoderun mangohud %command% --use-d3d11
But yea, whenever I try to boot it up from Steam, the screen freezes for a bit, then the webpage appears.
@@EiGi-ud9hj Your drives are correct so thats fine
and you have gamemode, mangohud installed? Have you also tried without the dx11 launch command as vkd3d should be good enough
The dx11 command might be wrong aswell, isnt it usually just -dx11? Idk i havent used it in a while lol
Yea, got gamemode and mangohud installed via apt.
Just tried both w/o and w/ the -dx11, and same result. Whenever I try to boot, the computer freezes/goes unresponsive to any keyboard/mouse inputs, then things catch up and the nProtect page shows up.
Going to see if I can sneak more info here w/o youtube bonking:

Just wanted to know if the anticheat even runs properly on Linux that's all.
Yes it does run properly, it doesnt run the same as windows tho as proton doesnt support kernel level so its running in userspace
@@linuxnext ok just one more question does the game require a playstationnetwork account?
not right now no
@@linuxnext thanks very much!
nah fam where do you get your wallpapers too clean
I get it either from paji an Australian artist which you can get this on his x profile or i use wallpaper selector from flathub

@@linuxnext thank you great video
do u have world of warships installed ?
Nope, why is that?
@@linuxnext i wonder how is gonna perform to get rid of winblows
What is your Linux called ?
That was endeavour os/arch, now im just using arch
Thank so you so much for the Video, I am very new to linux. I have linux mint 21.3 (DE: Cinnamon 6.0.4) to be specific, I installed the Game and played it, my Problem is that after playing on a Map with other players after like 10 min, the Game crashes or even my entire OS just Black screens. I don't know what I am doing wrong here.
my Hardware-INFO:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with Radeon Graphics (8c,16t) @ 5.288GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT
RAM: 32GB DDR4-3200
and Linux Kernals: 6.5.0-28
Nice, welcome :)
Linux mint is LTS based meaning your packages will be a bit older by about 2 years or so and your using amd which would use the user space and kernel driver on linux mint which is rather old so you need to switch your kernel and mesa to get a better experience when gaming on your hardware under linux.
You can switch it out by using kisak-mesa ppa and a newer kernel like xanmod
So do this
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kisak/kisak-mesa
sudo apt update
Then for xanmod you do
wget -qO - dl.xanmod.org/archive.key | sudo gpg --dearmor -vo /usr/share/keyrings/xanmod-archive-keyring.gpg
echo 'deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/xanmod-archive-keyring.gpg] deb.xanmod.org releases main' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/xanmod-release.list
sudo apt update && sudo apt install linux-xanmod-x64v3
This will install the right files
@@linuxnext Thank you so much for a your Respond, I'll do as you said 😀, test the Game and give update if anyone else has the same problem like mine, so maybe it can help them too !
Unfortunately, after I did all that and try the Game again, was playing the Game and it soddenly just freeze / crashes the entire OS again. But thanks for the help anyway.
@@omegathunder4115 do you have rebar enabled and 4g decoding enabled in your bios?
@@linuxnext haven't done anything to the BIOS, will check it now
its so much to do , the average guy doesnt have the time to mess around with it.
Ok
Is this bazzite?
Nope its endeavour os/arch but helldivers 2 works great on bazzite when i was playing it on there
