    I haven't had any trouble with mine yet i would get a old carpet car mat or something similar to do your burn outs on and i turned the DVC off

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was too eager to get out with it and I had a little chunk of carpet for it but left it here! I also forgot to bring a 2s pack in case the 3s was too much! I am thinking of taking out the radio system and putting in my Spektrum system to dial in the throttle curve on it. I did get the gears on order and the rear sway bar as well in hopes that may help. I am going to stiffen up the diff when I put the new gears in and change to some thicker shock oil too. with all that it will either go better or become a complete basket case! LOL! I just need some time with it and that was cut short by the blown bearing which was just a fluke failure.

    Bro you had me at drag car.!! And you can't beat the price. And hey, I bet some rear paddle tires on the rear and no dirt road will stop you.!!
    Speaking of concrete... does this rig have any adjustable traction control.?? My Traxxas funny car had a TSM system that helped keep things straight.
    My final assessment... paddle tires and its back to the dirt road.
    It sucks that you blew the transmission. At least you got some awesome doughnuts out of the car. 🤣

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I may have thought about the paddle tires thing already! If I cannot get it to got straight it might make the jump to the dirt! I went ahead and got this one as it should not take to much to convert it back to the RB10 buggy platform either so if all else fails I make it into a new track buggy! I have new gears and and sway bar for the rear coming so it will be back out for more testing and tuning soon. It is like puzzle I want to solve now!

    It is actually a bigger chassis than the oval track stock car the SR10 which is a smaller buggy based chassis.
    My DR-10 likes 2s a lot more than 3s.
    I'm running 80wt oil in all of the shocks. Also try adding spacers to the front shocks on the side it dives towards.
    I also put the included larger wheelie bar tires so it limits the front end lift a little more.
    I am going to try to lock the diff so it's a posi and see if that helps it track straighter.
    I'd try working on getting it to track straight with 2s, then go 3s after it's working better.
    I also found that easing into the throttle on 3s helps.
    They are really fun once you figure out what the car wants.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for all the tips. I know there is a lot to tinker with and I was just starting with the spring spacers when the bearing blew. Going out on 3s was probably not the wisest thing but i did not bring a 2s for a backup like a dummy! I am going to swap out radio systems in it so I can program the throttle curve some one the radio to take out the on/off feel of the stock radio system. It is like an 1/8th inch of low end then full punch after! I also ordered the rear sway bar set for it when I ordered the gear set to try and help it run flatter in the rear. I will probably tighten up the diff too when rebuilding it, it seem very loose from the factory. Some thicker shock oil sounds like a good idea too to slow everything down a little. I think It'll get there I just need more the 10 or passes I got out of it! Hopefully with a new set of bearings and gears I won't have this issue again!

    For this price I wouldn't had resisted to buy it, too. And yes, including a not so shelf-queenish body: hit it😁.

      I was lucky and it came back home with a clean and scratch free body surprisingly enough. I am sure if the bearing had not blown up and destroyed the trans then I would have ended up crashing it. In due time!. I have the parts needed on order and it should be ready for more testing and tuning soon! This one will not be babied!

    Hi there Addam, now that's a cool RC car and always good to try something a little different, there are so many facets of this great RC hobby! I like the look of the drag car. I was surprised at how soft the suspension setup is out of the box. Real life drag cars have very little suspension movement and most good RC's are set up as copies of their real-life counterparts! I'm sure stiffening her up with help with keeping her on the straight and narrow! looks like fun trying to get dialled in and learning a new discipline, though! Too bad she gave up the ghost but I'm sure you'll have it sorted out soon. Looking forward to see where this drag racing journey goes! 😎😎👍👍

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey there Mark! I have no clue what I am doing with it to be completely honest! I think that is one reason I finally decided to get one is I have no idea what to do other than got fast and go straight so it is a puzzle I have to figure out! I was kind of surprised by the squishy suspension but I assumed they know more than me so I left everything alone and went for it. 3s may have been a poor choice to start out with but hey, more power means fast right?? LOL!
      The bearing failure was a bummer but it could happen on any of them at any time so I was not upset. I have the parts on the way along with a rear sway bar to try and help get it going straight. I had just started to mess with the suspension settings when the bearing stopped being a bearing so I did not get enough time to see if it helped or hurt with the changes I made. It'll be back out soon to see what I can do with it! Take care!!!

      LOL! I thought so too but I guess you never know what's next! I picked this one if the drag racing thing doesn't work out i can strip it down and revert it back to an RB10 buggy! I figured it was a safe enough impulse buy! LOL!
      Yeah sadly one little defective bearing took it out of commission but the parts to fix it are on the way and I picked up the rear sway bar too. Maybe that will aid in tuning it to go straight. With some more time tuning and practice I am sure I can get a straight pass out of it!

    Mine was uncontrollable on 3s as well. Went down to 2s, still couldn’t stab the throttle no matter how much suspension tweaking I did. More often than not the rear end would step out even on 2s. Then I changed the rear tires to some Bandito SC I had on my slash as an experiment. Bam! Straight down the line, full trigger from a stop. It’s so nice to drive now. I’m on the hunt for decent slicks now that have traction. The stock rear tires just don’t grip no matter how much you warm them up.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, some wider and stickier rear tires would really help. I knew running on 3s was going to be hard but I think I can get it to work eventually. I should have brought out a 2s with me but was too excited to get out and go play! LOL! I got the rear sway bar coming along with the steel gear set so I hope that will help keep the rear end flatter. I am going to swap out radio systems in it so I can program the throttle curve some one the radio to take out the on/off feel of the stock radio system. I will probably tighten up the diff too when rebuilding it, it seem very loose from the factory. Sadly I was just getting to tinker with the shocks settings when the bearing popped and ended the day! It'll be back out for more soon! Thanks for the info, I am new as new can get with these!

    Hi there Addam, that was an interesting purchase 😊? Especially with the ESP shocks😅? Still for a classic muscle car, certainly behaved like an over powered rear wheel drive power house of a car, certainly had you wrestling with the controls. 😂😂😂looked like fun though, burning out and smashing that throttle, well until at least the gears decided to give up😢😊😊best wishes to you and the family 😊😊

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, not the most responsible purchase made but I did decide to get this one specifically as I can convert it to the buggy if the drag racing thing doesn't work out! The bearing blowing out and wrecking the transmission was just bad luck and I made sure it was all put together properly and it was. So it was just a fluke part failure. I have the new all metal gear set on its way and a rear sway bar to try and get it tracking straighter. I am looking forward to tinkering with settings to try and get it going straight consistently. Sadly I had just started when the bearing popped but I will be back at it soon enough. I did wait until the hottest part of the summer to go hang out in wide open parking lots LOL!

    Lol.... I love the way you justify the purchases you make to yourself! 🤣
    These things 'just happen' don't they?
    And why not..... we work hard, we deserve to reward ourselves with new toys!
    Fun concept, a little lacking in traction perhaps?
    Suprisng how soft the suspension set up was to, logic would say harder in my mind?
    And what a bummer regarding the bearing..... I would expect a new car to last at least one run!
    Got to admit though, I've had more issues with ready to runs than I have ever had with models that I have built myself!
    👍 👍 👍 👍

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL, there was some method to the madness here. I figured if I sucked at drag racing or it lost its charm quickly I could convert this back into an RB10 with little effort and then just have a nice brushless buggy for the track. I did help it was really cheap too!
      I have heard from a few that the stock tires are rubbish and aftermarket ones will hook up much better. It did stink the bearing blew out but I got the parts ordered and I also got the rear sway bar for it to try and help tune it to go straight. I hope with some more time and tuning I can it to launch on 3s going in a straight line. I think this was just a bearing destined to fail and it all felt and sounded great until it didn't!

  • @BangForYourBuckRc
    @BangForYourBuckRc ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would of done the same as well Addam. $90 isn’t much to shell out for one of these. It looks really great out of the box! Kinda reminiscent of an old dodge demon or an old Chevelle. Like they met and had a kid…😂
    I like the realism of a squirrely take off. Just like the real thing it’s a challenge to keep it straight! A lot is going on at point of take off in order to come out clean and hard. Sad that the gears got crunched though. That shouldn’t of happened at 10 runs in. Parts shouldn’t be an issue or expensive these. Would be great to get a couple of buddy’s to do this aspect of Rc’ing with. Great video, great purchase and thanks for sharing buddy!Happy 4th as well!👋🏻🇺🇸🙌🏼😎

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL! I told Thad it was a Mova, half Mopar and half Nova! I totally agree with you there! It was a good deal and I went with this one as if I don't like it as a drag car I can convert it over to a buggy and have a ew brushless track buggy! The bearing failure was not a great end of the day but it was just one of those one in a million parts failure that is just going to happen and I made sure it was no fault of theirs when disassembling it. I found no issues so it was just a fluke bearing failure. I ordered the new parts and a rear sway bar to try and flatten out the rear on take off. Good thing is they were still on sale. I have a lot of other tips coming in so I will so some work on it between now and when the replacement parts get here so I can get back out and test some more with it! At this point it is a puzzle I look forward to trying to solve. It would be more fun with another car to run against but at this point until I get it running straight that is going to be more than enough to focus on!

I am looking forward to trying to figure out the puzzle of getting it to track straight. I have the new gear set coming and a rear sway bar. I paid close attention when disassembling the car and there was nothing put together wrong so it was just a bad bearing. These things happen and I can't blame them for it failing so I am not going to bother with contacting them. If they had messed something up then yeah, I'd be on the phone with them! Thankfully the gear set was still on sale and I got the full metal gear set for not much more than the plastic set. I am looking forward to the tinkering to get it running well. Thanks Mark! I just watched you drift video and you are looking a lot better out on the track. I am hoping with some more practice with this I can get it straight. It has DVC (a gyro) in it but I disabled it to see if I could drive it and not let it drive. The bearing failure is was just a fluke failure that could have happened on any kit at any time so I am not too worried about that and the new upgraded all metal gear set is on its way along with a rear sway bar to help try and get me going straight! I have a few more tips to try out as well and see what happens. It was fun to try something a bit (a lot) different from the normal cars, trucks and buggies I normally get into! • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it is not the most practical one I have but at least this can be converted back into a buggy if the drag thing does not work out. The bearing failure could happen in any of them and I did check as I was digging into that everything was assembled properly and it all was. So it was just a fluke issue of a bad bearing. Thankfully the gear set was still on sale and I got the full metal gear set and rear sway bar for $45 so not a terrible loss.
      These are all on sale as they are just sitting on the shelves. All the racing is now done at such a high level there is little to need for these intro level kits and the only ones that are going to be running them are goofballs like me just having fun trying to drive them without flipping them over!

    There are so many different niche markets in this hobby of ours! I have also looked at drag cars, drift cars, big rigs, etc but I don't have a suitable place to operate them as the conditions predominantly suit off-road vehicles and typically I drive on my own.

Drag and drift do take a lot more real estate but there is a lot of fun in sliding a drift car around and the drag thing may be fun once I can work on tuning it and getting it to go straight. Hey buddy! I really went out on a different path with this one!! LOL! It is a cool puzzle to solve to get it going straight. I turned the DVC (the gyro) off right away to force myself to learn how to drive it and not let it drive itself. Sadly the bearing stopped doing bearing things and went free range all of a sudden and ended my day as soon as I started tinkering with it but parts are on the way and I'll get back out for more testing and tuning! I decided to not contact Associated as they assembled everything properly so it was just a one in a million part failure. While it sucks it happened it was going to blow out no matter what so I see no fault of theirs in it. I am very impressed with it and I will be getting one at some point. I love all the cool technology in there and they seem to drive super great, much better than any bike I have seen yet. I did not run out and pre-order it just because with new launches like this sometimes the appeal is more than the product and there are lots of issues. So far it seems like there are not any showstopper issues with it and I will end up getting one. Problem is getting one now! I know they are a bit pricey over there so I am not sure how well they will sell in the UK and elsewhere but I think they are going to do very well here.

      Yeah better rear tires would help I am sure. Sadly I was just starting to tinker with the shocks and throttle usage when the bearing blew and ended the fun. Definitely a whole new ball game with this one!

      LOL! Nope just a chunky old guy with a new toy! I think what it needs is a stretchy lunch box body on it and it would have gone much better! I have new gears coming and a rear sway bar to hopefully help it track better. It is going to be a game of try this and try that i think to get it going straight but it is like a puzzle so I am looking forward to it!

      From what I have seen in comparing the two, the Losi. They look better and seem to have better tires and are more stable out of the box. Granted I went blasting with mine on 3s right away so that did not help at all! I got it fixed and need to get it back out for another go. It has been so hot since I have not really wanted to stand around at a hot and humid parking lot with it! LOL!

    Ooooh, nice! Been there where your eyes are bigger than your brain. It’s a cool looking car. Too bad about the gears. Was it inside the transmission or just the spur?

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว

      The main spur shaft support bearing blew out and it stripped out the idler gear. I thought it may have been the gear mesh on the outside but it was the inside. I think the looseness I felt in the pinion/spur mesh when I checked it was from the bearing going out. When I tightened it, it ran smoothly but as soon as I went to go the bearing popped and it was done! Even if I had not hammered the throttle and stripped it out there was metal bits and pieces all throughout the gears so they would need replacing anyways! I got the full metal gear set for it and I have new bearings. I also got the rear sway bar set for it to try and keep the rear end nice and flat and can tune the pre-load/twist on it a little to track straighter I hope. Shocks need tuning and the diff need a lot thicker oil in it so i am hoping with some changes the next try will go a bit straighter or least give me a better shot at it. I still had fun and now it is a puzzle to solve!

    Looks mean mate, maybe a gyro would help?

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I want to run without to learn how to set it up and go straight(ish) with the car and not just rely on the gyro. I mean if it becomes an impossible feat then maybe! I got this one in particular since I can convert it back to a RB10 without too much effort so if the drag world doesn't pan out and I get frustrated, order some parts and I'll have a nice brushless buggy for the track. If it goes that direction there may be a brief stop at the dirt drag setup with some paddle tires! I'm gonna give it a go at some tuning on the street first though. Parts are on order to get it running again and I got a rear sway bar to try and help out too.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was just getting to the point where I was starting to tinker with the setup and the bearing went out. I think the tuning at this point is needed more on the rear as the front is not going to have too much input on the take off. I got the rear sway bar set for it when I ordered the gear set in hopes to keep the rear end flatter and help reduce the slideways some more. I am also going to stiffen up the diff when the new gear go in. I am sure shock tuning and all sorts of stuff will be needed to go straight repeatedly though. Just did not have enough time to tinker with it to try and figure it out!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it is meant for drag racing and I just have to get it tuned to go straight. I have gotten lots of good tips to help get it set up and once I can get the transmission back together I will take it out for some more testing and tuning. If the whole drag race thing doesn't work out it'll get converted into the buggy the chassis is based off of! then I will have a brushless RB10!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sadly it was a bearing failure and those can happen at any time. I am assuming it was just a bad one from the start, I have not heard of this being a common failure point. I am just glad it was not the car or the driver failing and just a part giving out. I am also glad it did it at launch and not full speed!
      New gears and a sway bar are on their way so with some other tweaks and changes I will get it back out for some more test passes and try and figure out how to go straight!

    Maybe some dirt tires it’s basically the same as the SR10 the RB10 they all basically use the same body and go from there . Ummm 🤔 we’re you actually trying to heat up the tires. It’s an RC they use sticky stuff on the RCdrag track’s to launch. I found it a bit amusing seeing you trying to do a pre run burnout no need and totally impractical for an RC car learn some throttle control. I’m not trying to be hard on you but b CB one on I know you’re thinking back about some of those gaffs maybe it wouldn’t have broken if you didn’t do things to it that were not meant to f D o like hold it and try to heat up the tires you stripped you’re gears ⚙️. But hopefully you add pine tar on the rear tires to get some purchase on the ground.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I am no expert on the no prep drag cars but they don't run on the prepped track with the tire sauce and prep. And they do heat up the tires with either tire warmers or by doing burnouts, usually on car floor mats or chunks of carpet to heat up the tires and make them stickier. I did not strip out the gear, the bearing in the idler gear shaft exploded and caused the idler shaft to move out of position so it was not meshing with the other gears. I am also not going to put anything down on a public parking lot for traction, stuff like that give RC guys a bad name. I would say I appreciate the feed back but it sounds like you know less about the no prep drag racing than I do...

      Honestly I got it all repaired and hung it up on the wall and I have not touched it since. I have debated on taking it out a few times and did not and I have also debated stripping it down to the buggy it is based off of and just running it as a buggy. I am still not sure and it is a future decision/project to get to.
