  • In this second part of Lecture 4, we define Load Patterns, Load Cases, Mass Source and Load Combinations in ETABS. We also apply various dead and live loads, as calculated in the first part of Lecture 4, on the structure.

    Does the software apply earthquake load in X Dr , X Dr+e , X Dr-e simultaneously or separately please elaborate on this

    sir, do we not need to consider that 5% eccentricity for EQ load in real analysis??

      It is a good practice to consider 5% accidental eccentricity during analysis. Because even if our building is regular, during its service life, there may be change in occupancy or use that may relocate the center of mass to a different position and also because our ground motion during earthquake may have a torsional component too!

      And also because our calculations of eccentricity is only approximate and hence we have to allow for some eccentricity arising accidentally!
