Thank you for posting this. I couldn't get the original site to work, I wish they would put a banner on there to direct you to the new one. Glad I've paid it on my past trips, as I wouldn't want that big hit if they do start to demand back payments.
You're right! A banner or something would be nice rather than the original site simply spinning round and round.🙄 Our thoughts were the same. They could demand back payments if they wanted to. I don't know if they will but we don't want to deal with it if they do. 🙂
Hi Nancy, great info. as usual! You are always so proactive! You must have been a straight A student. That's awesome that you have 6 videos in the pipeline. I can't wait to watch them. take care.
Best part of this video is the inclusion of the beautiful Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya! Our T/A is still saying that she wouldn't worry about the visitax because they aren't enforcing it (ie. it's not mandatory yet)?
It's law but they don't seem to be enforcing it yet so who knows when that will start. Sometimes they ask us for it and often they don't. You can always use the website and pay at the airport if you need to. 😊 It is pretty quick.
Great video! Thank you so much for sharing and giving us the updated version to this madness. I do have a ? How and or where is it possible for me to fill out the form online for 2 people my girlfriend and I don't live together, she leave me incharge of everything (uuugh), so I'm watching your video ,haven't went to the website yet to see, but tye last website they had you could put multiple people on an pay for it in one single shot, I'll be leaving for cancun next week I'm just trying to be prepared
I'm so confused and finding details other than just paying is not on that website. I'll be flying into Cancun from Atlanta with just a 3 hour layover to my final destination of Tuxtla Airport later that day. 17 day's touring Chapas with 3 days in Guatemala crossing into and returning to Mexico via land crossings. On the 21st day flying from Tuxtla back to Cancun I have a 14 hour layover and have booked 1 night hotel accommodation there. My question(s) 1) I surmise I wouldn't be required to purchase this document just for a 3 hour initial layover.....right ? 2) Because I'll be coming back into Mexico via land border and my boarding pass shows it's a layover am I exempt from paying the tax ? Thanks for any competent direction.
Those are really good questions! Complicated to say the least. I would expect that because your flight is considered a layover you would be exempt but that is just my opinion I am not a tax authority and I have never been able to guess what the State of Quintana Roo will do next. We put out a new video last week because the Visitax has had a major change to it in July with the contracting of Travelkore to facilitate payment of this tax. Check out that video it may help a bit. th-cam.com/video/lpt6h1OZwhs/w-d-xo.html I would also suggest contacting Travelkore directly and asking them their website is very user friendly and they are pretty quick to respond. I hope this helps at least get you to the people who can give you a definitive response.
@@newtravelescapes I did contact Travelkore and they replied with the answer. Thank you. And if anyone has the same questions the answer is if you leave the Airport property you were required to pay the tax. Whether on layover or not the act of leaving the Airport Property creates the necessity of purchase and it resets every arrival into the airport.
You are certainly not the only one who doesn't know about it. The Canadian airlines are only now (2023) telling passengers about it. I agree, if it is used for environmental preservation it is a good tax to pay. Do they use it properly? Who knows? 🤔
You may want to recheck the “new website “. Under “Terms of use” it says that the website is not affiliated with any government entity and there is a charge is $19.80 per person. I looked and could still access the old site. I’m not sure what is legitimate?
Unfortunately, it has changed yet again. I posted a new video last week. The State of Quintana Roo hired a new company, Travelkore,in July to collect the tax. Check out our new video and the info about Travelkore and the changes to the Visitax. th-cam.com/video/lpt6h1OZwhs/w-d-xo.html
We’re flying to Morelia(MLM) mex for a few days, and then from Morelia, flying into Cancun and then from Cancun, we’re flying back to the US. Do you know if we have to pay this tax flying from Morelia to Cancun? And then again from Cancun to the US?
Sorry but I'm not really sure. It is only for departing so you wouldn't need it when arriving into Cancun. If it were me in your scenario, I wouldn't pay it unless someone at the airport asks for it. If they do ask, then I would pay it online from my phone.
More updates in our newest video. A company has been hired to coordinate and enforce payment. Please check it out for new info and yet another new website. 😜
Yes. Check out our most recent video for details as things have changed since this one. th-cam.com/video/lpt6h1OZwhs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gReZ6p1t93CUYQ5c The most recent website is www.travelkore.com. You will see the Visitax button to click. They have an app. Screen shot the QR they send you so you can show it if/when asked but you will also be able to pull it up from your email. You will receive your QR receipt of payment very quickly. Enjoy your trip!!! ☺️
That is a fair question. We got the info at the Cancun airport in the arrivals area near baggage claim, above the carousels. There are notices up about the new government website. I began investigating this when a few of my subscribers said the old website was not working for then. It just keeps 'spinning'. You do whatever you are comfortable with. When you arrive at the airport check out the info for yourself and then decide how you want to proceed.
@@newtravelescapes Amazing as the payment section was spinning. Can you possibly do a video on how to pay it as it’s now asking to put arrival and depart date so is that how it sounds the arrival into cancun and depart cancun. It’s the scanning the passport scares me. The machines in airport do they scan the passports?
@@rakeshpatel7880 Hi! Yes, it is your arrival dates and departures dates for Cancun. The old website was ambiguous about what dates they were looking for. You do have to scan your passport now but you can try to do it with just entering the number. I am not sure if that would work or not. Again, the old website didn't even ask which country issued the passport so I am not sure what it was doing. Weird. I haven't used the machines at the airport personally but I assume they are the same system and are linked to the new website. I prefer to have it all done beforehand so I don't have to worry about it while away. You can always wait and if someone asks you for it then pay it online from your phone or at the airport kiosks (if they are in your departing terminal). Just give yourself enough time and data (airport wifi sucks) to pay it from your phone if needed. Hope that helps a bit.😊
I was in Cancun in August, 2024. I DID NOT see or hear anything about said tax. Nobody asked or told me about it. The only place I have ever heard of this is on this or other TH-cam videos only. No notices in the airport, from my airline or anything. They can ask if and when I ever return. Not sure? Because there is no information. Make sure you use the correct website?! Seems it has been changed. What did I learn in Mexico? Don't trust anyone farther than you can throw them - not at all. You will be told 3 different things by as many people.
Interesting that we have been in and out of Cancun 6 times in the past year and our airline has sent a link to pay the Visitax, along with the other info you need to know, every time. A quick Google search will tell you it is the law for visitors to the State of Quintana Roo. A stupid one, for sure, but still a law. 🥴 There are reader boards in the airport about it at baggage claim and again in the departures lounge. I choose to pay it but it makes no difference to me at all if others choose not to. It is a ridiculously stupid tax imo.
@@newtravelescapes I just used the old site and made sure to print out all my receipts. Our large group was given the old site by our travel agent. She may not even be aware of the update. Our travel agent reminded us to print out all the documents. I have added my receipt with my resort and transfer documents. I went back into the old site and did a check to get my invoice again and it worked fine. Thanks for the update!
So did I when it first came into effect. It is ridiculous how confusing this dumb tax is. It is completely separate, at the moment, and the airline or travel company should have sent you a link to pay it. I hope they include it in the hotel or airline or something but for now it is still separate. There are a bunch of changes coming to the Visitax sometime in February '24 and I'll make another video about it when I get some final details. 😊
My wife and myself just came back from Cancun today. The only tax we had to pay was at the hotel, which they charge per day that you’re staying. So this other tax we did not have to pay
