Plowed many acres with our 400 w/4bottom fast hitch plow. It had no trouble with it. The 1st time i drove it doing tillage work, i had it at about 3/4 throttle. When i came around next time,my dad jumped on with me, pulled the throttle down & said " this is an International it's made to work hard. Pin her ears back!"
Those little Farmalls are great tractors. They have been used for everything under the sun. I've seen them with plows, discs, mowers of all kinds, buckets and blades. Our school district had one for mowing the high school grounds and the football field. Several generations of kids seen that thing in action. It was still going strong when I graduated. Wouldn't be a bit surprised if it was still running.
Back in the 60's had a 400 and a 460, both gas ,the 400 would walk all over the 460, Spent many hours on the 400, Love the sound of all the 4 cylinder FARMALLS , MUSIC 2 YOUR EARS!! Thanks for the memories of RED POWER
Those 400,s were Beasts. They could punch way over their weight . Once saw a neighbor pull 2 full silage boxes up a hill in high gear and the engine never even grunted. Impressive but Farmall has always been at the top of its game.
I pulled a Deere 4-14 trailing plow with our '54 SM-TA that our Deere R diesel could barely pull. SM-TA did it in 2nd. Was the last 16 acres of old corn ground we couldn't get over with the R. Following spring we had a 450 gas with fast hitch, and a 4F-43 plow almost identical to FF's, except our's had a clamp-on land wheel on the right side of the plow towards the back. We had a home-made front weight bracket made from the cylinder mounting bracket from a CASWELL loader, big 3/4" thick steel about 5 inchs wide, stuck out ahead of the grill about a foot, had two 145# wheel weights and had an angle iron saddle between grill and wheel weights for two 50# scale weights, plus the bracket weighed over 100#. It really kept the front down, before the front weights, shift from low side of 5th to high side of TA and the front tires would come up over a foot off the ground. The 450 pulled the 4F-43 4-14's in old corn or bean ground in 3rd gear with ease, old hay ground or hog pasture in 2nd. We had an 80 with a lot of hills, some fairly steep and long and those gave the TA some exercise. Had one clay I actually had to pull the TA back going downhill. Neighbor farmed it with Us, plowed with a Allis D-19 gas and 4-16's Allis semi-mounted plow, He was shifting back and forth between Hi and Lo side but that break in power with the Allis Power Director made for some great WHEELIE'S. Yes, the furrow side rear wheel on a FARMALL with Fast Hitch should be slid out 5-6 inches so the 4F-43 plows with the full width of the front bottom. Dad was kinda lazy and ran M&W direct axle duals all spring except on the furrow wheel of his big tractor when plowing, so we always only cut about an 8 inch slice with the front bottom. The MIDWEST plow harrow became the "MUST HAVE" accessory for all farmers but they didn't work well with fully mounted plows, a neighbor talked Dad into trying a CASE 4-14 trailing plow which had a Midwest harrow, made disking plowed ground as smooth as running down a concrete highway.
The Super MTA is rated about the same as a John Deere R, plus you have the added kudos of the torque amplifier. A W-9 or WD-9 is more tractor than the John Deere R. They have no problem pulling a 4 bottom plow in our heavy clay soil...
That was great, 😂😂😂. Didn’t even break a sweat. Loved it for sure. The only way it could have been better was if I was on the tractor plowing, 😂😂😂😂. Sounds great, and looks great. Thanks for sharing and I'll see you later.
Best tractors of all time. Is a Farmall my dad bought a. C. In 1966 for 300 dollars raised tobacco for 30. Years with it plowing discing cultivating and hauling it to the barn. And sold it for 1000. 1952. C
My Dad used a Farmall 400 Diesel with an Oliver 4x14 pipe plow, back when I was growing up. You know, I don't think I've seen ANY videos of Oliver pipe plows, and, I've looked SPECIFICALLY for them, another I haven't seen is the first corn picker dad had, an IH 1P, and, I've looked for videos of them too.
Those 400’S are a great tractor. It didn’t even work up a sweat ! The 10’ harrow’s might give her a little work out. Great job with the video! If it’s not red keep it in the shed thanks,
I really enjoyed the video! It sure did the job better than I thought. My grandpa's big tractor was a 100 HP and he used a 4 bottom plow but he was plowing some steep hills and never liked to overwork his equipment. Thanks for sharing and have a great day!
Yeah, you're right. The 400 is a beast. It'll last forever as long as it's not NEGLECTED. We've had that discussion before. A little grease will take care of that rust. No need to wire brush it. BOOM!
Another gem FF, some folks listen to the ocean, some listen to sounds of nature…I’ll take the sound of a Farmall plowing to soothe and relax the soul😁take care and great job💥🇺🇸💥
Can't believe you doubted her, my grandpa always Said international and Farmall tractors will run out of traction long before power. Still wishing could have gotten his 450 diesel from his estate.
I think I like your 3 bottom setup just a little better than the 4 bottom combo, but it actually did a job good enuf for who its for!! Can I get a REDPOWER shoutout?? lol
Excellent video Geno :) also all years was in farm with my dad & uncle only see 95 % time used 4 row plow that was 3 point hitch and in 1993 used 6 plow draw bar one has adjustable with 2 hand trigger ones ! But amazing learning on both them and was fun with Red Power Boom 💥 of 1968 International 624 A German Desiel motor tractor !
My father & I years ago all we used was a 4 bottom behind our 400 after the main beam on 3 bottom broke. Plowed like that for many years. Only problem we had 400 was trike and light in front when dropped plow making it hard to steer and if you tried to break steer it would spin sometimes. Remedied by adding front weight. Worked great for years!
I never took my eyes off the screen but somehow I managed to miss the part Where you adjusted the plow looked to me like he walked right into the field and went to plowing. Tractor seem to do fine as far as I'm concerned. Well done, my friend. 🙂
I’ve never been interested in what can’t be done, always interested what can be done, always push a machine to see what it can do without tearing the machine up, the 400 4 bottom, case and point. Subscribed, liked, thanks for the video, enjoyed watching.
Awesome. The videos are too short. I could watch the "Red Power" pulling the 4 bottom for hours. The purr of the engine is mesmerizing. Keep up the good work. Go RED POWER.
Looked like it was pulling it pretty good. I've always heard it's about 20 hp per bottom but now that's in this heavy red clay down south. I enjoy that.
A great video showing what a 400 can do we always pulled a 3 bottom with our 400 but I always knew it would take a 4 bottom with no problem because our farmall 300 could pull the 3 bottom boom
When a kid. We plowed with a Super M 4×14 trailer type. 2nd gear in sod. 3rd gear in cornstalks. It had the fire crater sleeves and pistons. My cousin had a 770 Oliver. We tried that on that plow. Didn't work out very well
As long as you aren’t bouncing that plow around going down the road. Just bought a 460 and a 4 bottom plow at my neighbors sale yesterday. Fast hitch has definitely been booger welded a time or 2 lol
According to tractordata, the 400 and the 460 had the same horsepower. The 400 was a 264 4 cylinder and the 460 a 221 6 cylinder. My family had a 300 as the main plow tractor with pull type 3-16 - had no problems at 8 in cut on Iowa black dirt. But did bog down when you got into some clay.. our 1946 H only pulled a 2-14. Often had both in the same field - 300 doing 1-2 mph faster than the H.
They are roughly the same horsepower, but the 400 has more torque and more weight. I made a video showing the 560 is the replacement of the 450. The 560s are constructed similarly to the 400/450 series... But the 460 is lighter, they are more of a replacement for the 350. But the 300 is considerably more tractor than an H. They're not an M but not far from it. Same with the 400s. They are not a W-9 but not far from it.
I feel like a lot of guys see those fast hitch prongs and think they are some kind of weird 3 point adapter. I think you’re right that you’ve seen them at auction before.
I was talking to a retired farmer and he said he bought a 460 because of the paint scheme. He said they sucked him in with the marketing. He said he had the prettiest tractor on the block. But he wasn’t getting done any quicker.
Nice Job. Goes thru that soil with no problem. Really throws out that furrow, not much need for discing. I wonder how it would do in heavier soils, maybe deeper cut.
You'll be there at your auction grinding your teeth and watching from above.... pacing back and forth... saying I paid more than that 50 years ago.... them are the good steel ones from 1952.... lol On a side note. Have you ever addressed wobble? I came across an M for 800$ and the seller says wobble in. High gear
Fun talking with my 95 year old dad telling how he farmed with them and would replace the pistons with FIRE CREATER OR M&W shave head and retune them and change out cams
In the process of developing a game based around farming with old engines, and I can say the more I watch for research, the more I wish I worked on a farm instead.
Those 400S will pull a lot more than you think. Impressed !
They ran big farms back in the day
Plowed many acres with our 400 w/4bottom fast hitch plow. It had no trouble with it. The 1st time i drove it doing tillage work, i had it at about 3/4 throttle. When i came around next time,my dad jumped on with me, pulled the throttle down & said " this is an International it's made to work hard. Pin her ears back!"
Slow down that bad 400 is gonna throw the dirt pit of the feild.it’s a beast love it
I knew it would snatach it around
Out of the feild

Wouldn't be a bit surprised if it was still running.
They sure knew how to build them
That 400 didn't have any problem with them four bottom plows.I have really enjoyed this plowing session!!
Now my Dad had a Farmall 350 Diesel with a Fast- Hitch, before he bought the 400.
Plow looked nice and level. Thanks for letting us watch.
Back in the 60's had a 400 and a 460, both gas ,the 400 would walk all over the 460, Spent many hours on the 400, Love the sound of all the 4 cylinder FARMALLS , MUSIC 2 YOUR EARS!! Thanks for the memories of RED POWER
It's the gearing. The 400 was the same as the M-560 and the 460 was the same as the H.
And also the weight
Yes and the 460 is a lighter tractor than the 400
Plowing like a BOSS...RED POWER IN 1956...RED POWER IN 2024!
Those 400,s were Beasts. They could punch way over their weight . Once saw a neighbor pull 2 full silage boxes up a hill in high gear and the engine never even grunted. Impressive but Farmall has always been at the top of its game.
No doubt

Yeah I could actually adjust my right wheel out a couple inches
That 400 does a beautiful job on plowing the field, and also, when you disk it, that field will look clean 👍👍👍
That was great, 😂😂😂. Didn’t even break a sweat. Loved it for sure. The only way it could have been better was if I was on the tractor plowing, 😂😂😂😂. Sounds great, and looks great. Thanks for sharing and I'll see you later.
Love the smell of fresh plowed dirt and to see the plows turn from rusty to bright and shiny.
Me too
I do have to say that the 400 is a sweet running troctor
Hello Gino allways fun plowing. Tractor doing good. Have a great day.
Polished 4 at a time…yep Your 400 was a good purchase. 🍻🇺🇸
It really was
That was awesome and yes I made it that far lol! Thank you for sharing my friend!
Best tractors of all time. Is a Farmall my dad bought a. C. In 1966 for 300 dollars raised tobacco for 30. Years with it plowing discing cultivating and hauling it to the barn. And sold it for 1000. 1952. C
Definitely
What a great shot of a coulter doing what it’s supposed to do
I’ve been waiting patiently for this video.
Nice set-up.
More to come!
The old girl was hoggin the dirt, she didn’t even grunt.
4 b is looking good behind the 400. Nice combo.
Watching you plow the ground up. Brings good memories back of my dad. ❤❤❤
The 400 sounds great.

Yay !!!
Great video !!!
400 sounds fantastic !!!
Thank you
Those 400’S are a great tractor. It didn’t even work up a sweat ! The 10’ harrow’s might give her a little work out. Great job with the video! If it’s not red keep it in the shed thanks,
I lucked out with this machine
No worries about the 400 handling the 4 bottoms!!
Love the sound of those farmall tractors , that is a working tractor
Me too...a deep bass sound
That's. The set up man that ploews good funny how no matter how big they are they all make that same sound I love it man
Drive line quit ,no exhaust leaks, engine smooth and strong, this is as close to perfection as it can be ,
It's a great tractor
That 400 is a refined beast. Smooth

BOOM!

You and me both!
Red power beast. Great job plowing.
Plowing is my favourite looks like doing a great job. Enjoyed your video Gino have a great day.
Red tractors always do a great job!
Maybe the 4 in the 400 meant 4 bottom.
Wonderful 400, love the video!
Nice t=actor. Doing and exceptional plowing job. I love Farmall tractors.
Thanks 👊
I really like that tractor it runs as smooth as a sewing machine
The 400 handled the 4 bottoms like a champ!!
Definitely
Farmall 400 4 bottom plow BOOM!
Nice job plowing ! I enjoy seeing you using all your tractors !
It's good to keep them used
Can't believe you doubted her, my grandpa always Said international and Farmall tractors will run out of traction long before power. Still wishing could have gotten his 450 diesel from his estate.
Oh I never doubted it
That 4 banger is sweet!
I think I like your 3 bottom setup just a little better than the 4 bottom combo, but it actually did a job good enuf for who its for!! Can I get a REDPOWER shoutout?? lol
Good video Sir. I love watching the dirt roll off the plow. Stay safe my friend. God bless you.
🙏🙏🙏🇺🇲🇺🇲
You as well
Way cool and I see the belt pulley used one of them also plowed a lot when younger with same equipment great video
Excellent tractors

Point we'll noted ✅️
It can be done watch and learn because my grandfather would of done the same thing 👍👍
Not only do I watch all the videos all the way through, I always let all the commercials play all the way through .
You are most welcome :)
💥BOOM 💥
Great tractor ! Everybody has red running in their veins ! 😁🇺🇸
Yup, just some r in denial...😄
@@FarmallFanatic yes sir ! 🤣
Nice job!
Boom 💥
I'm impressed your 400 doing very well buddy
Looked like it was pulling it pretty good. I've always heard it's about 20 hp per bottom but now that's in this heavy red clay down south. I enjoy that.
Yeah you would want that ratio in clay
Can't beat my 1941 M. I'm pulling three 14s in fourth gear.
Yeah, but there's no need to be in fourth gear plowing
A great video showing what a 400 can do we always pulled a 3 bottom with our 400 but I always knew it would take a 4 bottom with no problem because our farmall 300 could pull the 3 bottom boom
Yeah it did surprisingly well
Runs great!!
Yeah it's a tough machine
Like the plow videos. Would like to see a 2 way plow on the Cub or A someday.
That 400 was a great purchase.... Easily the nicest Farmall at the auction you bought it from!!
I believe that now
When a kid. We plowed with a Super M 4×14 trailer type. 2nd gear in sod. 3rd gear in cornstalks. It had the fire crater sleeves and pistons. My cousin had a 770 Oliver. We tried that on that plow. Didn't work out very well
Farmall all day
As long as you aren’t bouncing that plow around going down the road. Just bought a 460 and a 4 bottom plow at my neighbors sale yesterday. Fast hitch has definitely been booger welded a time or 2 lol
Very good working hydraulics on this machine...
I love when people tell me I never plowed with a 3 bottom 14 inch Case plow being pulled by a 1952 Model A Johhny Popper. I did it for many years. 😊
I believe you
The 400 is no joke. 4 bottoms are child's play for it.
Well done Gene. Looked like 2nd and 3rd moldboard could use new trashboards though in the heavier stuff.
Yeah I got a little work to do
The wheel on the back didn't look like it was on the ground all the way. Man it pulled it good.
Yeah , i'm in the process of adjusting it
The old 400 just showing the 4 bottom who the boss is an asking for a 5th 💪💪Red Power 💪💥
Good job on video red power looks good job on plowing
In heavy soil, probably 3 bottoms. - Doug in Iowa 🚜🌽🥩🇺🇸
Very beautiful land. And a beautiful day.
Thank you
400, 4 bottoms, 4 you! Boom!
Let's go let's show
Thanks. Good job
@honey8784 thanks for watching

No, they are gutless compared to a 450
Great video. All the best 🇬🇧.
My dad had 400 diesel with the pony motor great memory
I've seen those for sale
Boom! Awesome video man
Thanks 👊
Granted that I have only plowed once in my life with my 53 super c but is doing a hell of a job. She sounds good under a load.
The tractor has really impressed me
Best looking plow job so far
Agree 👍
Sounds happy not sweating any .
Definitely didn't lack power
Awesome video
That fast hitch sure looks easier than a 3-point hitch.
Definitely wouldn't hurt to have a modern and better rendition of it. 3pt has always been frustrating for me, usually the sickle mower haha
Beast 400 💯🚨🎯💥🔥
Totally
Red Power plowing 💪🏼❤
Nice Job. Goes thru that soil with no problem. Really throws out that furrow, not much need for discing. I wonder how it would do in heavier soils, maybe deeper cut.
One way to find out
way to go , got right to it. every youtube vid "how you doing guys, hello guys....
Oh I know
Good looking rig! Did the 400 even know the 4 bottom was hooked to its tail? Didn’t seem like it!
Things you buy and they remain in the barn until your auction....lol
I won't be there lol
You'll be there at your auction grinding your teeth and watching from above.... pacing back and forth... saying I paid more than that 50 years ago.... them are the good steel ones from 1952.... lol
On a side note.
Have you ever addressed wobble? I came across an M for 800$ and the seller says wobble in. High gear
She pulls her like it was meant to be!
For sure
cool stuff man
Thanks, I'm lucky to have this tractor
@@FarmallFanatic i've got an M. they're fun
Definitely did a good job. It wasn't even breathing heavy. Makes me wonder if it would pull a 5 bottom
Fun talking with my 95 year old dad telling how he farmed with them and would replace the pistons with FIRE CREATER OR M&W shave head and retune them and change out cams
I have Fire Crater pistons in my Super C
That is one cherry 400. We pulled 4-16 with SMTA, different soils use different Implements
In the process of developing a game based around farming with old engines, and I can say the more I watch for research, the more I wish I worked on a farm instead.
Definitely more fun
Nice thinking on swapping out fast hitch pieces. Never seen the hook you used from your seat to disconnect the fast hitch!
It's the original hook that came with the tractor...super cool
