Casey, you are the man! Have been following you since you were driving around hitting pawn shops and garage sales. I am 75 years old and have piddled around with online sales for several years. Have a decent retirement but with todays economy it's getting harder and funds are not going as far, I needed to step up my operation. I maintain, around 600 listings and on average sell 1 or 2 per day. After watching your video yesterday, I changed all but a few listing to Best Offer and sent out offers on all that were eligible. ATM I have 9 items to ship and 6 of those were after I made my changes. Now to increase my listings and hope this streak continues. Thank you for your great videos and all you do for the reselling community!

I do it all. One thing that increased my sales is to offer better shipping cost using other carrier. And I list items 3 times a days. I save drafts, list 1 item in the morning, 2 after lunch and late in the afternoon list another item. This way I’m “poking” ebay algorithm few times a days and send offers. Sales went from 2 a week to every day sales and for the first time Im Top Rated Seller as a part time seller. Pretty excited! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

What other carriers do you use? I've used FedEx, but my results with them have been mixed to say the least. I've never lost a package or had anything arrive broken while using Canada Post. But shipping costs really are a problem for some items.

I have been doing those three things and it helps a lot! I'm surprised that you only send offers twice a day. I send out offers several times a day, and it increased my sales! Thank you, Casey, for everything you do to help resellers! You rock Rockstar!

I do mostly 1 and 2....offers on everything, I'd say offers (accepting and sending) are really the biggest chunk of my sales anymore. My items are sourced from picking, swapping, or friends and family cleaning out that know what I do and are too busy to take things to donation, or don't want to be bothered with loading/unloading. I sort, donate and sell what I can. Time and tape are my biggest investments...my main goal is to get it out the door. I don't do too many sales, need to start.

  • @kndbaystore3432
    @kndbaystore3432 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I have been doing all three and I occasionally get sales from it however I don't have many popular items. Majority of my listings are plush which gets a high margin of profit but takes longer to sell. So, I have been using E-Commerce to start listing lots of my vintage glass and other desirable items that I am sure will begin to increase my sales. Having said all that, it is true that no matter how many items you have listed, if the sell through rates are very low or the items are not fast moving types, sales will not increase by much no matter what tactics used.

I thought you might tell the smaller sellers to do Sell SImilar before the item Relist automatically. I try to catch them before they relist so Sell Similar get the item listed as newly listed. Also today I just noticed when you End a listing and Sell Similar the listings NOW is deleted from the Unsold category. As someone with no experience selling, I'm tempted to NOT send offers because I'm afraid if I do, someone would have bought that item at full price had I waited longer. But I know I can possibly get the item out the door quicker if I send an offer. So there's a pro and a con to doing it

I though Ebay WON'T let you "double your sales", -assuming you're not a new seller. Their logic was that they don't know if you can handle processing/packaging/mailing with the sudden increased sales. For example, if I have 1,000 listings and I'm making $1,000 per month, and then I double my listings to 2,000 hoping to make $2,000 per month,....well, Ebay HATES that strategy and will algorithmically halt your increased sales to a limit of 16% or something,...so you'd make $1160.00 in sales that next month instead of $2,000.

I grossed 200k in 2020 with 1400 listings on average,...now with 3500 listings I'm on pace for only 250k,...but there are many factors to juggle, -2020 was the easiest year to sell. I've had eight $1,000 sales days in the last 30 days, -the few days that I had $1,000 in sales before noon, i would go the rest of the day with almost no sales or offers....as if my listings were 90% shadow-banned....as if they were "capping my sales" for the day. This is a long message so I will have to put the second half in the first reply to my post. But below I explain below in back of the napkin math how these decisions should be made as the numbers can be deceiving. I explain a hypothetical small eBay business scenario where if you have enough cash on hand you should scale your inventory instead of trying to make deals for a lower price. In the scenario I get around $138k in profit for a hypothetical small business in 2025 that scales inventory over the next few months to 2,000 items listed. And I only get $76k for the same business in 2025 if they don’t scale and 1,000 but lower prices.
I also explain how in the short term of how much additional money will be made over the next month or couple months vs keeping prices high. Basically you will deep in cash if you keep prices up, but if you have the funds you could potentially recoup the 15k need to build up the business by peak with the improved sales volume.
This scenario assumes only a 5 dollar drop in price would keep demand at current levels. It also assumes that demand would only be 50 precent if prices stayed the same. This is a little extreme but not to unrealistic for used clothing resellingZ.
Changing price a few dollars vs scaling ect when your sell thru demand changes should be modeled in a spreadsheet, or at least like the back of the napkin math I use in the scenario below.
I like the idea of pricing high, and then reaching out to viewers with a best offer closer to what you would have originally sold for. But if you are doing so to essentially lower your prices and increase throughput on average you have to run the numbers. I would recommend doing so in a spreadsheet model to ensure that it makes sense to drop prices vs just letting your inventory storage grow. This is especially true when assuming demand will start to increase as we get closer to the end of year peak. In some cases it might make sense to lower prices like if you have a short term cash flow issue or you are close to max capacity in a storage warehouse. But it might actually cost a lot of money for someone to do that long term.

    • @Cant_find_good_Handle
      @Cant_find_good_Handle 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Part two of message:
      Here is the example scenario.
Let’s assume that someone has been selling for the last several years at a fairly consistent 100 items a week at a 30 dollar sell point during off peak and 250 items sold at 35 dollar per item during the last three months of the year at peak. For simplicity we will assume they have consistently keep 1000 items on average that are actively listed throughout the year to hit those numbers. And that the seller just hires 1 full time seasonal worker along with one part time worker during peak to maintain that 1000 active listing total throughout peak.
Now let’s assume that demand has gotten much worse this year, and for that same seller they only get 50 precent of the sales per item when listed at that same $30 off peak 9 months price and $35 peak 3 months end of year price. Let’s assume a COGS, fees, shipping, ect average at $10. Let’s also factor in around S1,500 dollars a week to pay their peak seasonal employees to help increase throughput to match sales those last three months of the year.
This means the seller will only make around $1,000 profit with the same prices but reduced demand vs past years at $2,000 profit a week. So during the 9 months of off peak demand or the monthly profit is about $4,300 per month vs $8,600 profit for off peak months in past years. That again is with a 50 precent reduced sell through rate if they have around the same 1,000 active items listed.
And for peak that means that number is around $3,125 vs last years $6,250 a week before employee pay. Now that means you are getting after $1,500 for one full time and one half time employee $1,625 profit a week vs $4,750 after employees. Again that is with peak staying at $35 dollars but dropping to 125 sales a week with 1000 items listed vs 250. So in that scenario let’s assume you scale back and only hire the part time employee and are back to making $2,625 a week. That is closer to $11,300 per a month profit at peak, vs $20,500 in previous years per a month.
Now obviously if you keep your prices high you inventory level will grow, but because most people have a tendency to lower prices soon after they have a dip in sales it is important to look at that scenario as well first.
So now let’s assume if instead they had lowered there price by doing best offers to $25 off peak and $30 peak and then they were then able to maintain there original sell through rate of 100 items off peak and 250 items peak per 1,000 items listed. That would mean for the short term they would see their numbers partially recover to $1,500 profit per weeks or $6,450 per month. And with 1.5 employees at peak they would be around $3,500 per week profit, or $15,000 per month profit at peak.
So by doing best offers and selling items for a lower price the seller would have in the short term made around an additional $1,700 per month for the same short term work if they lowered there prices during off peak months, and they would have made an additional $3,800 per month than they would have if they had kept there prices hire with lowered demand.
Now obviously sales would have gradually increase over time as the inventory volume would have built up if they were listing the same number of items, but there was a lower weekly sell through. But for the first 3 months or so after a noticeable demand drop a cash strapped eBay seller would have to worry about losing around $4,000 to 5,000 grand the 3 months off peak if they didn’t slash prices even if they were adding month inventory and thus gradually increasing there sales back to the original volume. And at peak that could mean at least a $10,000 dollar short term profit loss if prices are not lowered.
But let’s make a reasonable assumption that if you built your listings back up to 2,000 items per week you would be back to selling at the same throughput but at the higher price you had been selling in Previous years. If a seller has an effective simple storage system using a sequential number box inventory method they should be able to fit 1,000 items like clothing onto only 2-3 additional storage racks.
In this scenario the listing throughput and their pick, pack, and shipping numbers would be about the same using this method of storage. Pulling 100 items from 2000 items listed in number order over 6 storage racks is almost as fast as picking from 1000 items in 3 storage racks.
So if there is room in their house or storage facility to scale to 2,000 items this would mean spending about $150 on storage racks. And that would mean buying about 1,000 additional items over the next few months to list, and let’s assume a high number like $500 dollars for storage bags and labels and boxes, ect. Let’s say the decrease in demand is hitting people for the first time right about now. And lets they were able to hire their temporary seasonal workers 3 months early starting early to mid august.
Given that those workers produce 150 items extra per week at a $1,500 dollar rate they would be able to list 1,000 additional items in around 6.67 weeks. Which will cost about $10,000 dollars of additional pre peak labor to ensure that inventory is back to 2,000 items so with 50 precent demand sales would stand a good chance of being back up to there original level.
Now if the seller is cash strapped to maintain positive cash flow prices could be reduce for items as they sit in inventory a little faster than they previous years during the inventory pre peak build up period. And best offers could be made to also help drive cash flow.
But depending on how much cash you have in reserve you might be better off not lowering prices at all or at least splitting the difference and aiming for an average $27 or $28 dollars for sales in the short term as you build up. This might mean pre peak sales would increase so you might need to hire extra temp employees 10 to 12 months before peak to ensure you get fully rambled up to 2,000 items rather than just 6-7 weeks out as you would be selling through a higher percentage inventory during the pre peak build up.
So therefore you would need to spend about $10,000 in labor, $5,000 in fees to build up that extra inventory as a one time investment. Let’s round up and assume the racks, boxes, storage baggies, ect., will go for around $1,000. And then let’s assume another $5,000 dollars in annual listing fees by maintaining a higher number of listing fees. I am not sure on that one but seems like a reasonable guess if using a lot of 30 day auctions form a store.
Now with this information we can compare, with back of the napkin math, if it makes sense to start sending a bunch of offers to people to sell at a lower price vs scaling the inventory. For simplicity let’s assume that the seller has cash on hand sitting in their business account from their last several years of nice steady state profits.
This would mean that the seller would be by peak selling at a $20,500 per month profit vs $15,000 if they just lowered their prices. And by the end of the three month peak they would have already saved $16,500 in profits that they would have lost by just lowering prices and doing more best offer sales. Unless they are listing high and then sending offers to their original prices.
This would mean that by the end of the year you would recoup the extra cost of building up your inventory with $500 dollars extra to the bank. But you would have also gained 1,000 items of inventory that only needs to be picked, packed, and shipped. In total sense we have already counted the COGS in that $15,000 above that is like adding another $25,000 to $30,000 to the business in inventory value.
Now assuming that in the next few years that sales demand stays at 50 and the seller decided to just go back to 9 months solo and 3 months with workers like they did before the dip in demand. With 2,000 items listed they would be back to $8,600 for the 9 off peak months, and $20,500 for the three peak months or 138,900 total profit expected with low demand but scaled to 2000 active items in inventory for 2025.
If the seller just lowered prices and did not scale they would be around a $4,750 profit per month the first 9 months of 2025, and then at $11,300 for the 3 peak months. That would be $76,650 in total profit. So in addition to losing almost half their profits in 2025 they would not have gained the extra 1,000 items to their inventory.
If those profits were reinvested into the business to grow the inventory another few thousand items and a additional couple of employees could be brought online full time it is possible they could get to a few hundred thousand in profits per year. Now if that is invested wisely that could turn into millions of dollars over the course of a few decades.
So in the above scenario as long as the owner has cash to be able to operate with increased expenses they should try to scale their business so they can at least maximize their own throughput. And most importantly a seller should run the numbers in an excel spreadsheet before making major strategic decisions about their business.
You want to estimate cash flow and what your profit would be. It may seem like it is not that big a difference but a couple dollars in labor cost or product price is like change compound interest percentages by a few points. Modest short term effect, but massive longer term financial implications.
