    Hi Preston, I’ve been watching your channel for awhile. You’ve given me confidence to start my own project on dyeing shoes. I bought an exclusive used pair of mora 2.0.
    Can you help me by answering one question?
    Majority of the fiebing dye are dark after one coat. What did you use to dilute the pigment so that one coat is much lighter than the intended color? Was it isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) at what percentage mixed with fiebing?

    • @TheElegantOxford
      @TheElegantOxford  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, Jun. unfortunately feibings is oil based so it wound dilute well with alcohol. You’ll need to buy the feibings diluter for that job. Test it out and use more or less until you get the shade you need.

    Preston, hello. Love your channel. I found and old shine kit in my wife's grandfather's basement. The polishes and a shoe cream are about 15-20 years old. Are they still able to be used? They are Kiwi tins. Thank you so much.

    It's down to luck. You could end up spending more time looking for 2nd hand stuff then just going to work a couple of hours more and buy new, in size shoes.

    I have to say I've learned a lot about this art watching this channel. Being a youth Cadet (Canadian), we are required to have a mirror shine on our parade boots. I begin to ponder if Preston has ever received a pair of military shoes to shine. The only difference I can think of is that the entire shoe must be mirror shined, not just the toe and heel. Thoughts?

    • @phillipmoodie9071

      @Ivan Kostamo. Sounds like a project concept that a very large number of ex-servicemen would get nostalgic about. Phil.

    Preston, thanks for your advice I just purchased my first pair of pre-owned Allen Edmonds from dabondo1, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to love them Awesome deal BTW. They are the McTavish Oxfords in black. In the photos they look amazing. I already have an idea on how I’m going to treat them. I got Saphir Renovatour and a few Saphir creams and polishes, including the Mirror Gloss in neutral. My question is: Do you have any advice on any cleaning or disinfecting the inside of the shoes? I’ve never seen you doing that. It’ll be great to have a video on what to do on recently purchased pre-owned shoes. Thanks!

    I wouldn't have dyed them: Saphir Reno mat first; Saphir mink oil second; Saphir renovatoreur third; Saphir light-brown, creme polish forth,; and finally Saphir Medaille D'or, wax yellow polish until a mirror shine is achieved. I did this with a pair of Allen Edmonds cap toe oxfords. An absolutely beautiful shoe.

    Big fan of your channel. I’ve developed a little obsession with who shine and restoration since discovering it. Not brave enough to burnish with dye but I have experimented with polish. Successfully with an old pair of shoes and not so successfully with my RMWilliams boots. Any tips?

  • @brookeggleston9314
    @brookeggleston9314 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Whenever you use your bare fingers to apply polish or wax, I can hear the sharp inhales of people who don't realize that their are *no* petroleum products in any Saphir products! I must admit, when I first applied black cream to my boots, I was surprised by how easily it washed off my fingers! If I hadn't seen you do it first, I wouldn't have been able to stick my finger in the black cream. Do occasionally tell people that Saphir products are made from natural ingredients. You may prevent a heart attack!!🤗🌹✨

  • @arjunbehl
    @arjunbehl 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the video.
    I went out and got Saphir products including the mirror gloss. The finish was great... but when I took them out, within minutes, I could see ugly cracking of the wax on the vamp of the shoe. Was I not supposed to shine the vamp and other areas? So basically, do you only apply wax to the toe/upper?

Subtle. Deep. Rich. Reminds you of a old guitar or fine violin or nice vintage shotgun. Amazing job.

    WOW love your mirror shine...........when I shine my shoes and I am in a bit of a hurry I just exhale on then and let the steam do the trick......def not as effective but still a decent result
    and in the beginning when you want to remove all the old grime and polish........I always used a few drops of aceton instead of saddle soap........its harsher for sure but seems to work as well and dries pretty quick .......sometimes with really grimy shoes I just use reg warm water and body soap and lather it up real good...not too dripping wet but real good
