  • Our backyard golf training facility is getting next level. We continue to mow our fairway and around the DIY putting green and we also start working on our driving range. We bought a new Stihl FS 91R weed eater and put it to work. Our dream golf homestead is looking good!

    Love my Stihl trimmer. Had it over a decade. Cross threaded the spark plug, tapped it to the next size up and it still going strong. Only had to replace the carb once in the decade and I don't do yearly maintenance like I should. Well worth the few hundred dollars. Use it on a 1 acre property in south FL.

    Hey y'all new to the community, love the videos! My son is 5 and is showing a huge interest in golf, I was able to acquire some used starter clubs for him. I guess my question is since I'm a golf noob myself but would also like to take it up with him what's the best thing to start doing? Best practice? Places to look for to help him? Any help would be greatly appreciated

    • @UnderParAcres
      @UnderParAcres  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the support! Great to hear you and your son are getting into golf! At his age, I would not worry about lessons or anything like that. Just find either a local course and/or driving range that you can go to, and most importantly, make it a lot of fun for him! Don't worry about trying to get him a great swing at this age, just try to create an environment where he loves going to the golf course. If you create a mentality where golf is lots of fun, then when he gets older, he will really enjoy practicing and pursuing the game further on his own terms. If you go about it in this manner, you will be enjoying golf together for a very long time regardless of what caliber of play you are at. Hope this helps. Thanks!

    • @UnderParAcres
      @UnderParAcres  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can hold up to about 30 yards with a perfect shot. Longer than that is nearly impossible without bumping it up.

    I have been looking at putting in a hitting bay in my back yard and I was wondering what kind of turf you are using or are looking to buy because I am looking for something that feels as close as possible to real grass. Not sure if you have done any research on this.

    • @UnderParAcres
      @UnderParAcres  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't researched heavily yet, but am close to doing so. All of the turf I used was leftover putting green turf, so it is not ideal for hitting shots off. I had a friend donate some turf that works better for hitting shots off that I'm about to start using, and it has a much thicker rubber base which should make it feel better. I'll do a video on it pretty soon when I make the new tee box with it. Let me know if you find anything good as well because I'll be looking to upgrade in the future. Thanks!

    • @masonmitchell9342
      @masonmitchell9342 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UnderParAcres Through my own research I have found that it is cheaper and better when using lots of turf to make small cut out maybe 1'x2' in the larger piece of turf where you can insert a high quality hitting mat without having to spend lots of money on the whole thing being a really nice mat. But then you would have to cut and add 4 or 5 cut outs to the large piece if you wanted to make it so lots of people can hit at once.

    • @UnderParAcres
      @UnderParAcres  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@masonmitchell9342 That sounds like a pretty solid idea! Let me know if you try it and how it works. Thanks!

    Are you going to add some kind of drainage into that driving range?

    • @UnderParAcres
      @UnderParAcres  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the big question for me right now...My long term plan was to build a bass pond next to the field and use the dirt we dig out to fill this field and level it. If I did that, I would create a drainage system. Only thing I'm worried about is that a lot of people tell me it's low laying land and that I'll always have water issues in the winter and a pond would likely flood a lot. I'm worried it would be very expensive and never really work. For now though, it makes for a great driving range in the summertime!

    Instead of buying fake turf for your driving range take it from your green and seed a grass green. Money saver ;)

      I’ll likely build both a real grass tee box and synthetic just so I have both options. I currently don’t have the equipment to maintain a tight fairway or green. See video below I did on why I chose synthetic turf for the putting green…Thanks!
