Need for Speed 3 on the PC is one of my most memorable racing games of all times. It was one of the few racing games with super long tracks. Miss that one alot.
Loved this game back in the day, loved that I could sit in the car, that I could add traffic and use codes to drive as regular cars. This, Destruction Derby 2 and Carmageddon primed me for Grand Theft Auto 3 and up
AP's Underground Music The PC version was the definitive version of the game. The concessions they had to make to put it on the PS1 just plain aren't worth it.
this was the very first video game i owned myself... and love it, i played for like half a decade on my old PC... and i looked for the soundtrack in every record store i ever came across... i never found it until i finally got my own internet connection back in 2005
Well form the info I found.. Need for Speed II, Sega GT 2002, Ford Racing 2, Ford Racing 3, Gran Turismo 2, "Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA", TOCA Race Driver 2, TOCA Race Driver 3, Project Gotham Racing 3 and Ford Street Racing.
Played this one on the PC mosly when i was a kid. The multiplayer was awesome and you could have cheats so you can race with busses and big trucks wich was great in multiplayer for ramming eachother. I recently bought it for the PS1 and it's almost exactly they way it was on PC.
4:10 It is a sad truth from you just said there, a lot of the NFS community just want customization and NFS UG3. NFS wasn't really all about customization. And even though I lived my life playing 2nd gen NFS games like Underground, I still believe that this is what NFS should really be all about.
glad to see you back on YT and glad you reviewed a good NFS game. Back then I had this version then later on I'd get the PC Special Edition. Easily my favorite entry in the series. what's not to like about it?
The first games i owned were this and Test Drive off road. I had this old tv that did not work right and the screen would move to the right as you were playing. Fun times
I have a funny story about this one. I had the game installed on my parents' PC around 2003. I was in a folder named NFSW, and I kept calling it Need For Speed World. So my child mind predicted the name of the MMO somehow
Need For Speed 2! The pure nostalgia and my total struggle at going around that arctic map back in my old days of PS1 along with High Stakes. But hell, the game even included a secret hell map like Tony Hawk Pro Skaters 2 did!? I haven't realized it till now. Ford GT90 was in Gran Turismo 2 as well as a reward-only car. GT90 was quite a sight to behold; its design is so surreal and unique compared to all the supercars even today. Sad it was just left as a prototype in the end. I dunno, the old NFS just felt truly nostalgic compared to Rivals. (I like NFS Hot Pursuit 2012 and below games more than the more recent NFS games if you ask about the modern era)
I had hot pursuit 3 and high stakes. cant remember where they are right now but damn those games were the shit. amazing soundtrack and simple career modes with great cars. i love how the music changes based on where you are on the track. that was so awesome. now days they shove in shitty hip hop and cold play into the games and it just makes me want to turn off the music all together. which i do..
I used to play the demo version of this on the PC (pentium 133 in software mode lol) a lot, never had money for the full game, but hey the demo was already awesome, it was my introduction to the series, I always love the cockpit view, also I still think the menus in this game look really good.
I spent many hours sharing a keyboard to play split screen on PC, yes that's right, the keyboard allowed two zones to accommodate two 10 year olds sitting side by side as we whipped McLaren F1 and Ford Gt90 around a track at 150mph for hours.
That last map looked like the trench run from Star Wars. I played Need for Speed III - Hot pursuit first from the series and I stuck with that feeling. Need for Speed for me is about exotic cars running amok while police cars are after them. I like Hot Pursuit 2 and I highly enjoyed Hot Pursuit 2010.
I agree. It would be nice if they made a need for speed game that didn't include cops, but just had awesome cars to race in. I own all the need for speed games for PS1-PS4. My favorites are NFS2 (PS1), NFS:HP2 (PS2), and NFS:HP (PS3).
Ahh the memories. Defanately one of my fav nfs games i spent alot of time into this game but my most memorable from that era was nfs3hp. Mayyne that game was da shit!!
this was my favorite nfs game. not because it was the best, but because i played SO MUCH SPLITSCREEN on this game and had such fun doing it, it just can't not be my favorite. also the sound track... i still carry it around in my phone. it's that good. the best all in all was nfs3 i think, although the first one was pretty awesome. didn't like anything after the fourth one though (yes, Porsche unleashed included)
Classic gaming at its best. I loved this game, hot pursuit, underground series, and most wanted were the best in the series. Sadly they don't make nfs games like they used to.
ive owned them both. PC and PS1. and the PC version ROCKS! All of the tracks have 30 Seconds more to them. Buuuuttt, PS1 had that Dual Shock controller. To this day, Ive NEVER played a game with the precision, that is in that game. I could drift in Atlantica like a superstar! Gran Turismo 1 and 2 have great controls too. but i always think back, to Hot Pursuit on PS1....
This was always my favorite racing game, and actually I prefer it to any NFS later squeal. I love the speed in it which is the core of the racing games and not the shit it is now. There is also an old racing game which I am still trying to find it (I forgot its name), it's a rally game where you stop for oil refill and has tracks around the world (I remember the longest was in Singapore maybe).
Actually, the "Burnout-esque" feel you get from latest title of Need For Speed is coming from this game. You can switch racing style from Simulation (old-style NFS), Arcade (Burnout-esque, prone to drift), and Wild (as the name implies). So, if any people think that newer title of NFS is a carbon copy from Burnout, probably they never played this game :D
Long load times and pixelated hand drawn graphics notwithstanding,I actually enjoyed the PS1 NFS series with their awesome track designs and kick ass sound effects.
I've never played it, but it looks fun. I didn't get into NFS until Hot Pursuit. That was cool, but maybe I missed something with the first few. Good review!
It's funny how early 3D graphics have aged really badly yet 2D sprites from the Snes era still look really nice and stylish. This game looks like garbage now but it was pretty fun back in the day. Need For Speed 3 was my favourite.
this game was the SHIT, me and my brother always play this game on the pc! :D We had a blast back then, and now I'm in an urge to download this again :D
i remember this game.bought it as i never bought the need for speed on 3DO for some stupid reason and always regretted it ever since.enjoyed the game, but not as much as road rash 3d on said 3DO.
I don't know what people mean when they say "it didn't age well" it is what it is, a product of its time, someday people will appreciate these graphics.
TOCA Race Car Driver 2 for the original Xbox had the Ford GT90. I distinctly remember it because of that one fucking race on Road America where all the cars were GT90s and if you didn't reach first place before that one goddamn 90 degree right turn, it was fucking impossible to win and required restarting the race. That one turn took TWO FUCKING DAYS to do that one turn perfectly and win the race. I rented the game and never got to finish it, though. Maybe Mark would have more luck with it than I did. I'm told I'm good at racing games, but I can only do so much with an analog stick.
I remember a demo disk coming with the original ps1 i bought back in the day... it had jumping flash, novastorm, loaded, and a racing game where you could play as an AC cobra or a Dodge Viper... was that racing game need for speed 2? Edit* after watching a bit more of the video he mentions Test Drive... it was Test Drive 2 that was on the demo disk i believe :)
The first Need For Speed on the 3DO is what got me into racing games when I was younger, I loved that game and spent many hours on it.
Need for Speed 3 on the PC is one of my most memorable racing games of all times. It was one of the few racing games with super long tracks. Miss that one alot.
Gran Turismo 2 has a GT90, even though it requires you to complete an endurance race to get it.
This was the racing game of my early childhood! I still have it on PC too! I think I'm going to play it right now in fact!
I remember playing this game on PC 12 years ago, I was obsessed with it, loved the review Mark!
one of the first racing games I played as a kid on ps1 classic game
I absolutely loved to bump the other cars and see them crashing really hard on the walls, so much fun!
Loved this game back in the day, loved that I could sit in the car, that I could add traffic and use codes to drive as regular cars. This, Destruction Derby 2 and Carmageddon primed me for Grand Theft Auto 3 and up
old school racing games for the win
This game shows how gran turismo was so ahead of it's time
Gran Turismo 2 has the Ford GT90.
so does Sega gt 2002
I think ford racing 3 has
+Laatikkomafia That car was a BITCH to unlock.
As a Mclaren owner, yes. You want the McLaren F1.
Avoid the PS1 version. The Win95 3DFX-powered NFS II SE was the way to go.
i play it on pc, but via ps1 emulation, lol.
1337W422102 PC never really sat good with me with the older NFS games. I like the ps1 versions of the games.
AP's Underground Music
The PC version was the definitive version of the game. The concessions they had to make to put it on the PS1 just plain aren't worth it.

2:50 you can get *GT90* in Gran Turismo 2
Don't forget the Ford Racing games.
And in Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec
It also an unlockable car in Rush 2 Extreme Racing USA rename as "Prototype"
I think, it is also in TOCA Race Driver 2.
Well form the info I found.. Need for Speed II, Sega GT 2002, Ford Racing 2, Ford Racing 3, Gran Turismo 2, "Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA", TOCA Race Driver 2, TOCA Race Driver 3, Project Gotham Racing 3 and Ford Street Racing.
I liked all the wacky 'vehicles' you could drive like the outhouse, log, and trex with various codes.
You should do need for speed high stakes
+AP's Underground Music Yes. Actually came here for a NFS:HS review :-)
I had all of these early "NFS" games & love the series overall. A great review of an old favorite!
loved this game!! andnice video
I played the disc out
Great vid, I always love your reviews with that humor you throw in!
0:57 One way to get through the field! Great review CGR :D
love this game got me into the series before it got popular
Played this one on the PC mosly when i was a kid. The multiplayer was awesome and you could have cheats so you can race with busses and big trucks wich was great in multiplayer for ramming eachother. I recently bought it for the PS1 and it's almost exactly they way it was on PC.
you beat me to it, but i distinctly remember being able to race as an out house
Haha yeah, or as a wood log...
MrAtariable
wood log was the best car for ramming others. it would push ANYTHING away with ease :P
I loved this game as a kid.
I am indeed a late '90's Racing Game Enthusiast, but I do not have this game... yet
I remember loving this back in the day. Brings back memories
The pc version is far better than the ps1 version...
+Albert T. Games The Need For Speed II SE version for PC is much better graphically, but the original PC version is much the same as the PS1 version.
***** It does exist. It was one of the first PC games on a pirate CDR that I ever had. Very little difference between it and the PSX version.
Endless hours of playing this before heading to the bar on weekends. Great times.
The GT90 can be found in Granturismo2!
This was my first PS1 game. I loved it, and because of it I still have a special place in my little black heart for arcade racers.
Man, memories I remember playing Need For Speed 2 and 3 for PS1. Oddly enough while I also owned the first Need For Speed, I had it for 3DO
4:10 It is a sad truth from you just said there, a lot of the NFS community just want customization and NFS UG3. NFS wasn't really all about customization. And even though I lived my life playing 2nd gen NFS games like Underground, I still believe that this is what NFS should really be all about.
I distinctively remember playing with the Ford GT90 in Gran Turismo 2! That and the Suzuki escudo were my faves!!! :D
I still have this game (for PC). I remember playing it as a kid.
it's so good to have ya back on the choob
This series easily paved the way for games like Forza and Gran Turismo. Great memories playing this series on PC. xD
im realy happy to see CGR review on youtube again THANK YOU !!!!!
Keep the videos coming! Great job
PlayStation: 👍🏻 *FUN!*
PC: 👎🏻 *BORING!*
remember playing tons of this as a kid, love tackling civilian trucks
This was one of the first racing games I played when I was little!
NFS III on PC is still the best one if you asked me.
Always will!
***** It's not that you think that the other versions of Hot Pursuit 2 sucked. It's just that the PS2 version has the most features.
+Dr. J's Videogame Nonsense. Isn't NFS 4 : High Stakes pretty much the same, just better?
Harry Silver not really
Brings back good memory's!
glad to see you back on YT and glad you reviewed a good NFS game. Back then I had this version then later on I'd get the PC Special Edition. Easily my favorite entry in the series. what's not to like about it?

Loved that menu music!
i played the SE version of this on PC and i LOVED it

Played this game alot with my dad, good memories :).
Ford Racing for the PC and PS1 had the GT90.
Oh man I remember playing the hell out of this when it first came out..Killer racing game!
That last map looked like the trench run from Star Wars.

Ahh the memories. Defanately one of my fav nfs games i spent alot of time into this game but my most memorable from that era was nfs3hp. Mayyne that game was da shit!!
one of the TOCA Race Driver 2 includes the GT90 on ps2 includes the GT90 fantastic game :)
this was my favorite nfs game.

I still play NFS II SE on my Pentium III comp's with 3Dfx Voodoo cards and watching this is like pouring sand in my eyes.
PC Master Race
You said it all! NFS had finished on the 05th one...
Long load times and pixelated hand drawn graphics notwithstanding,I actually enjoyed the PS1 NFS series with their awesome track designs and kick ass sound effects.
Dead Space with Ferrari's sounds incredible!
I actually really like the graphics in this, which is unusual for a late 90s racing game.
Ford GT 90 is in Gran Turismo 2 and Ford Racing 2 too
I have all the NFS games. This one has got the best menu screen music. I have it on my cell.
:D
The Ford Racing series had the GT 90. They were pretty good games for the time, or at least my memory of them was good.
ur vids are awesome bro
love the reviews
So many loveable Memorys. This was/is such areally great Game. I should buy it soon for my old PSX :-)
now we need a review of need for speed 3
I've never played it, but it looks fun. I didn't get into NFS until Hot Pursuit. That was cool, but maybe I missed something with the first few. Good review!
RIGHT IN THE NOSTALGIA!
you guys still havent reviewed NFS high stakes witch is pritty much my most fav NFS game back in its early years.
NFS3 and NFS4 have best tracks to this day.
Play it on PC ,You won't regret it :)
It's funny how early 3D graphics have aged really badly yet 2D sprites from the Snes era still look really nice and stylish.
This game looks like garbage now but it was pretty fun back in the day. Need For Speed 3 was my favourite.
NFS 2 SE on PC was best!
Funny how a 97 PS1 racing games has an individual cockpit view for each car and all these years later Gran Turismo 6 doesn't even have that.
I have been looking for NFS and NFS 2 for awhile and can't find them :-(
Gran Turismo 2 had the GT90 as well
this game was the SHIT, me and my brother always play this game on the pc! :D We had a blast back then, and now I'm in an urge to download this again :D
WIND TURBINE SYNDROME! That is what's bad about windmills. BAM!
Sweet my first ever game, spent so much time smashing into traffic trying to roll them
i remember this game.bought it as i never bought the need for speed on 3DO for some stupid reason and always regretted it ever since.enjoyed the game, but not as much as road rash 3d on said 3DO.
I hope we can get a review of Hot Pursuit 2!
I don't know what people mean when they say "it didn't age well" it is what it is, a product of its time, someday people will appreciate these graphics.

I played the shit out of this game when I was a kid, this game made me a huge fan of the mclaren f1.
Sega GT on the Deamcast has the Ford GT90.
My least favourite game in the series no cops and on one track you will chrash no matter how slow you take the turn.
