  • Here are my favorite Movie / TV Soundtrack albums that are comprised of various artists songs. Many of these are all time classics, but there's some deep ones here that you would love as well.

      Yea - it's an amazing looking soundtrack with fantastic songs. I guess I just rebelled because it was so popular, that I never bought it. But no doubt it's amazing.

      Not really my kind of soundtrack - Survivor, John Cafferty, Go West etc - and another turn at Eye Of The Tiger. But it does have Living In America from James Brown. Glad you love it, I'm sure many people do.

    did I miss Quadrophenia?, the '79 movie soundtrack not the 73' Who album.....monumental

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting choice. So Quadrophenia is my favorite album by The Who and in my top 10 of all time by everyone. The movie is one of my favorites of all time as well. So why I didn’t choose the soundtrack. It’s still to me more of a Who album than a various artists soundtrack but the various artists side is awesome. Totally. I’m not a huge fan of the Quadrophenia re-recorded songs. To me not as good as the original. And the extra tracks like get out and stay out, joker James, four faces are kind of throwaways. So anyway that’s why it wasn’t there. Also The last Waltz is one of my favorite albums of all time yet to me more of a band album. Just me though. Thanks

    Fashionista Alan, I'm loving your new look!! You will never regret your new foot fashion choices🤣. That's a great sweatshirt today. My favorites you showed are Woodstock and The Harder They Come. I would add the following soundtracks. Monterey Pop Festival is a major one. Deep soundtracks would include Velvet Goldmine , I Shot Andy Warhol , and Burnzy's Last Call. Never saw the movie for the last one, but the songs are very interesting. Glad you enjoyed your visit to New Orleans. You should come down for French Quarter Fest or Jazz Fest sometime.

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great choices you mentioned. I thought of Monterey Pop and Isle of Wight also but didn’t include them as soundtracks but you’re right. Since they were films I guess they’re soundtracks though they’re different than the films too. I don’t know. Gets confusing. So many great live compilations. Kampuchea. Secret policeman’s ball. But to me not really soundtracks. I have a great museum of death sweatshirt from New Orleans. Don’t know if I ever Wore it in a video. Will do it. Never heard of Bunzys Last Call. Gotta look that one up.

    if you dig The Harder They Come check out soundtrack to Club Paradise. It’s awesome. Only came out on CD officially in Japan but vinyl is easy to be had. I picked up Rockers on CD in 2020. Hadn’t heard of it but watched it on Prime that year and instantly bought the soundtrack next day.

    I hear that these days the socks are what make the man, so please be aware that you may now be jeopardizing your street cred despite your ratty jeans, decades-old concert T-shirts and cool hats. On a serious note: As a music lover, who, in general, is not a fan of soundtracks, I think you did a great job in selecting and presenting those in your video. Naturally, many, including - most notably - Woodstock, are obvious choices. I am very impressed by what I consider to be your two most inspired choices: A Walk On The Moon and Natural Born Killers. Featured on A walk On The Moon,White Bird, Ripple, Today, Embryonic Journey and Summertime take my breath away - singly. The other 11 cuts are the ideal complement to a movie that is so real, absorbing, well cast and reflective of a wonderfully heady time in America’s culture that I was totally engrossed by the story and invested in the characters. As for the soundtrack to Natural Born Killers, it gives you Leonard Cohen’s Waiting For The Miracle on the same album that features The Patti Smith Group’s Rock ‘N’ Roll N… and L7’s Shitlist. If that isn’t the most awesome combination for a music lottery win, I don’t know what is. The other songs on the album are also great sonic tools to help tell the wild story that is brought to the screen in Natural Born Killers. (In reference to one of your commenters mentioning Cowboy Junkies’ version of Sweet Jane, I’d like to add that Lou Reed is on record saying it is the only version of the song that he truly likes. Cowboy Junkies also do a great version of Neil Young’s Powderfinger.As for the band’s originals, A Common Disaster is exceptional, boasting Margo Timmins’ hauntingly beautiful vocals and a sentiment that is as relevant today as it was upon the song’s release nearly 30 years ago.)The movie is a captivating cinematic experience, in no small part to Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis in the lead roles.

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks again for your incredible comments. I did mess up in the video in that I forget to say Cowboy Junkies version of Sweet Jane which as you and another pointed out. I film live and the words didn’t come out but yes amazing cover. That film is an all time classic and favorite of mine. And was way ahead of itself. We’re living in those times now although luckily perhaps not that extreme. But getting closer. Glad you loved little seen Walk On The Moon as much as I did and it’s great soundtrack.

    Hi Yes i liked American Graffiti. The movie i saw in 1973. The soundtrack is excellent because the film is set in 1962. Wolfman Jack featured in the movie as the radio Disc Jockey. I listened to him on the radio back In the 1970s. The Big Chill soundtrack I have on cd. I liked the movie also. 1983 release I think? . Motown tracks on it. I like Leonard Cohen so I would be into that Natural Born Killers cd. Quentin Tarantino is cool. I have always liked the Rocky Horror Picture Show. It's my favorite soundtrack to a movie. Do the Time warp. Meatloaf appeared in the movie. Jimmy Cliffs reggae is good. I worked with film in the 1970s, i did film examination work for a film distribution company here in New Zealand. It was 35 millimetre film cinema released movies. Thanks for your posting. From Carl.

      Thanks Carl. I didn't mention Rocky Horror because this video focused on Various Artist type comp soundtracks. I will get to that, as I'm a fan and have multiple Rocky Horror. You used to work in the film industry - wow - how cool is that. I can't believe I forgot to mention Wolfman Jack in American Graffiti and on the album itself. He's a highlight - especially the scene where he let's "his hair down" and just becomes himself - awesome scene. Thanks again.

    Hands down Woodstock is the best movie soundtrack ever made for the boomer generation with a nod to American Graffiti and Forrest Gump. I played Woodstock to death in Jr.High and High School. Love that album and movie!

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes totally agree. In fact in my list of all time favorite live albums Woodstock is high on the list. It’s a perfect listen. I knew Forrest Gump was going to show up. I’ve seen the cd everywhere for cheap and I never bought it. I liked the movie but there was something about it. Probably because I think I saw Pulp Fiction at around the same time and I loved that so much. But yea. The Forrest Gump soundtrack looks amazing. I was a jerk about not getting it I guess. And yea American Graffiti is probably my favorite 50s album ever. And I forgot to mention Wolfgang Jack is in it. Just killer stuff. Thanks again

    Hey Alan, great topic. I've always liked soundtrack albums. I like the kind of soundtracks that are more cinematic usually, meaning they don't have popular songs or hits. 2001 Space Odyssey or Deer Hunter for example, Tangerine Dream's work with soundtracks or John Carpenter etc etc...
    Easy Rider was also a good soundtrack. Ennio Morricone. I feel like I'm forgetting a couple of my all time favorites but can't think of them right now.
    I presume you've heard Johnny Russell's "Red Necks, White Socks and Blue Ribbon Beer"?
    Don't be afraid to wear those white socks bud.
    Take care.

      Thanks Darkstar. I've never even heard of Johnny Russell's "Red Necks, White Socks and Blue Ribbon Beer" but am going to check it out now....lol. Yea, this video was focused on Various Artist's soundtracks. I also like many movie and show soundtracks and think I will do a video on that as well. Love the 2001 Space Odyssey - it's a classic. I have a really cool John Carpenter collection as well. Easy Rider I don't have but definitely a classic. Morricone for sure. Yea, think I'll do a video on that as well. Soundtracks are pretty cool to me.....white socks, or no white socks...ohhh the pressure...lol

      When I think of a soundtrack ... film score. Blade Runner Vangelis. Bernard Herrmann... Psycho etc
      The guy who inspired Tarantino's sountracks must be .... Goodfellas

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FuturePast2019 Yes - Scorsese's soundtracks in the films are incredible. Especially being a huge Stones fan, he's always putting in these great deep Stones cuts. In fact, he probably partly responsible to bringing Gimme Shelter to the public consciousness, he's used it so much to great effect. But the soundtrack albums rarely have all the amazing songs used in the films. But yes, he may be the best along with Tarantino. Clearly Scorsese is a huge music fan - did film work on Woodstock and then Last Waltz and Stones Shine A Light and Dylan etc. on and on. Amazing.
