Beloved among the music community - the music world was shattered when his life ended at the hands of a psychopath. Dime touched so many lives, including those of his peers (and idols) including Eddie Van Halen, Zakk Wylde, Dave Mustaine and so many others. Join me in taking a look back at the life of one of the greates metal guitarists ever.

      Great vid, but just one correction, the schizo believed pantera stole his thoughts and used them for their success, that was the sole reasoning for what he did. Nothing to do with the breakup of the band or anything Phil did or said. Rock on brother🫡🤘🙏

    One of my best memories from the 90s was Dime handing me a draft beer down from the stage from the headstock of his blue lightning Kiss dean..Then I got a pick..That's the perks of going to the show early.Saw Pantera 4 times in the 90s and they have topped every other concert I have been to and I go to alot.

      There's an 'intellectual honesty' influence takes, in my opinion. Doing the dew is something you need to have learned to do, and too many people get caught up in learning to do, i assume. Doing the dew is love and light. Learning to do is tedious

      @@dsxa918I agree whole heartedly. I'm the type of person who can emulate what I've learned, and learn tons of things. However, I'm not creative or ground breaking(like Dime). I have the ability to see the genius, just not create it.

    • @guitarmeetsscience

      Exactly - that's what made this one the hardest one to do.

      @coreymcmanus4749 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @guitarmeetsscience I can't ever get people to agree with me that dime was the greatest to ever do it which is crazy to me. Being a self taught guitarist myself,I can see things that other people don't and that man was a guitar god. I can't imagine what could be if dime was never assassinated and Pantera got back together.

    • @guitarmeetsscience
      @guitarmeetsscience  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @coreymcmanus4749 well, there's a lot of complexity with that. So many different criteria, and moving parts. A guitar player that resonates really deeply with one person may not resonate at all with another. However I could also say that there are a lot of people out there that feel the same exact way that you do about dime. And whether people are fans of him or not, they can all easily agree that what happened to him was tragic and never should have occurred. Of all consensus I have seen on here, everybody I've come across know deep down the he is a true legend of the instrument.

  • @michaelodria1986

    It is so sad what happened to all these innocent people. Still after 20 years when I am reminded of that tragic day we all heard about and saw, I still get emotional. Back in 1992 I met Dime Bag after he and Pantera got off the stage behind the Roseland club in NYC on the street hanging out with me and another fan. When out of nowhere a homeless man ask us if he could have some money to buy some food. Dime Bag was the first one to put his hands in his pocket and gave the homeless man money to go buy food. Because that's the kind of man Dime Bag was, and I never forgot that. In life it is the small things that tells you the true character of a person. And Dime Bag was truly a great person.

    Still cant believe hes been gone for 20 years this year now.
    One of my all time greatest influences growing up, been playing since the age of 11 and I'm 35 now.
    As a native Texan his passing hit home something hard and fierce.
    He was an all around nice, giving, compassionate man, and absolutely cared about his fans.
    Darrell is by far one of my most prolific guitarists of all time. Darrell had a style all of his own that cannot be recreated by any means. Most guitarists like to use tube amps, he ripped and tore the guitar game apart with pure solid state, which hadn't been prominent until then.
    RIP Darrell Lance Abbott🤘💯🕊

    After that first concert, my Pops bought me Led Zeppelin, Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, ZZ Top... and then it was Alice in Chains and Faith No More.

      To me, that facet of his personality is really what puts him at the top of the pack. Guitar players are a bunch of dicks, and I should know, been one since '89. Dime was the antithesis of the arrogant douchebaggery you tend to encounter in that walk of life. He was humble, he was gracious, he was always happy to talk to his fans because he was just like them. He realized how fortunate he was and the fame didn't go to his head. They really don't make em like that, before or since, especially considering how talented and successful he was.
      I heard about his murder on the morning radio on my birthday. Needless to say when I showed up hung over, at about 11:00 my boss was on my ass, "dude, your 25, not 21, not 18, 25 is just another day" I told him it didn't have anything to do with me, it was for Dime. And as time went by I found out that all my friends, no matter where any of us were, we all got drunk as shit and smashed up everything around us. It was so senseless and heartbreaking. Anyways, thanks for bringing up that point of interest. I think that's what really set him apart.
      Take care of yourself man.

    My favorite guitar player ever and they are my favorite band ever, Dimebag was one of last real guitar heros that was completely original, 3 seconds and you know who it is...I saw them 5 times in the 90's and they absolutely destroyed the stage every time, kept getting heavier instead of selling out like Metallica and Megadeth, they took Slayer, Anthrax, Morbid Angel on tour to sold out arenas keeping metal alive. And it was so awesome that Eddie gave Dimebag that original guitar, he's my second favorite guitar player ever right after Dime, great video brother 🤘🏻

    If I'm not mistaken, Dime started using tube amps on the last two Pantera records. I don't think it's an issue of him not liking tube amps, but the fact that the tech for tube amps weren't quite there yet in what he wanted to portray sonically. The heads from the late 90's going forward took quantum leaps from the tech of the amps of the previous eras. I think Dime would love the high gain tube amps of today.

      Exactly right - I was floored to know that the officer was so shaken by the incident, but I really hope that he took home the point that it had to be done and that he saved a lot of lives. That guy was a true hero in every sense. RIP dime 🙏

    I smoked out with Darrell at the Ozzy/Exodus show in Dallas, I think 88. Saw them a couple of times at the Basement during their Power Metal album. Phil had long hair and wore lots of rings.

    Great job breaking down his playing abilities and history, i feel the same . Pantera could've been the best of all time if not for animosity,drugs and alcohol, tragedy so we'll never know

      Thank you - You are so right too. Had they have been able to get out from all of that they would have stuck together.
