    2 questions .
    How tall was your ceiling ?
    Also ,
    How tall is the scaffold?? Where I can rent it ? My local homedepot / lowes don’t have one in stock

    This is great. I've been waiting 3 years for my husband to put my new chandelier up. I'm going to HD and rent the scaffold and do it myself. Thanks for posting the video. I might do the same.

      Hire an electrician with workers comp and liability insurance. That’s why you you work and make money. So you can hire someone and not risk ending up in a wheel chair. Spend your money wisely.

    Home Depot calls this the 10' interior scaffold but I think the after assembly, it's more like 11-12'. Here in GA, the rental for this is $28 for 4 hours, and I think $39 for whole day. I only rented it for 4 hours, and it was also my first time renting it which includes half hour of figuring out how to put it together.

    Thanks for the video! I'm in the same situation where i'm planning to change a fixture from a 16 foot ceiling. Did the scaffolding come with instructions on how to set it up or is it pretty intuitive?

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should ask your rental place for printed instructions or at least tell you how it goes together. People may say it's easy, but if you have never put one together before, it could be tricky. I got mine from Home Depot and luckily the guy found the instructions for me. Just keep in mind, one you get to the top, it does sway a bit but it's safe. Just pointing that out because I always thought it was going to be rock solid until I stepped on top of it. Good luck!

      Yes, it would be called a wench. I would definitely want one so I can clean it myself when I want. We have a 22ft ceiling in the foyer and the chandelier is over 150 lbs. I don't think it will be as simple as this video.

  • @jdacosta4024

    Excellent Job!! After seeing your video I feel confident enough to do my own. Funny but we have the same light fixture in our entry way, hate the brass! Our new fixture looks a lot like the one you installed. Our ceiling is 17' so I'm going to rent a scaffold. I'll be installing four fixtures in the same day, that will help to justify the scaffold rental. You can't put a price on safety!!! Thanks again very helpful video!!

      +JD Acosta Thanks for your comment. Just FYI - If it's your first time using scaffold, i can tell you it is still a bit scary as standing at the very top will still sway back and forth a bit, but it's safe.

    Yes, I was glad to get rid of that awful brass light. The work of installing the new light isn't too bad. It was my first time using a scaffold, so spent about 40 min putting it together. The rest is just remove and replace.

  • @buddi54
    @buddi54 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for posting this informative video. How do you decide to go with the 9 light chandelier, but not bigger or smaller? What is the dimension of your chandelier versus your foyer area ? Would you consider/recommend to install chandelier lift to the chandelier for easy cleaning and changing bulbs?

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, I got this one because it was on clearance sale. It didn't look to be too big or too small. I have seen those chandelier lift videos on youtube and think that's a lot of money and work for one light that you may touch every couple of years.

      +Tim A The one I rented at Home Depot was the one shown in the video with 2 levels. I didn't get to choose it, that's just what they rent out. I think the total height to my ceiling is about 19 feet.

    Another option would be to reuse the chain and install the new Chandelier using the old chains. The electric wire will have to be cut and the patched but that patch will not be visible at such a height. Of course it works only if the existing chain is the right color. Luckily, that's true in my case and so I am going to try that.

    • @dial2fast

      To replace the bulb, all you need is an A Frame ladder that will reach the bulbs. The scaffold was needed to reach the ceiling and also more easier to perform the work.

    This should have the optional safety rail for the top any time you add a second level and should also have the other four wheels and outriggers to make it much more stable. I believe he rented this scaffold and they did not give him the other parts.

    We bought exact same scaffolding at Northern Tool yesterday and tried to put it up last night..and the scaffolding was so wobbly, there was no way my hubby was going to get up there...so we took it back, also the reviews about the Megatech scaffolding all said same thing for the 1-3 star reviews. Didn’t know Home Depot rented, will check them out. We have exact same cheap brass light ...so ugly..good job!

      You can rent tall A frame ladders but it's too dangerous with the person up there holding the heavy light and trying to remove the hardware and wiring. Renting this scaffold for couple hours only cost me $40, so well worth it.

      I I might be typing this warning too late but if you rent the scaffold and if don’t have a Pick Up or a Large SUV I would highly recommend renting one because it will make transporting the scaffolding to and from Home Depot much easier
      A pickup truck like a Ford F-150 or a Chevy Silverado or a Ford Ranger would be ideal but a large SUV like a Ford Expedition or a Chevy Tahoe would work as well

  • @gregsmith7391

    Mine is over a curved staircase and a scaffold wont fit. I hired a couple guys who do this for a living. They came with a massive a frame ladder and were just able to reach the box by putting the ladder as much over the railing as they could. Best $200 I spent. I would have had to rent a ladder and try to get it home and then my time. I just called a big lighting store and asked if they had somone who installs high lighting and they gave me the name of the guy they use. I highly recommend that. I normally like to do DIY but in this case....not worth it...

    Who ever is watching this to change out lights or a chandelier as a diy project. In my opinion just pay someone to do it. Don't risk injuring your self to save a few hundred dollars, the medical bill will be way more than hiring someone.
