  • Phnom Penh is found in the intersection of four rivers, therefore it is poetically referred to as the ’City of Four Faces’. During the era of colonialism, when the city underwent huge development, it became known as the ’Pearl of Southeast Asia’.
From the amazing Khmer achitecture, like the Pagoda and the Royal Palace, to the bustling markets - this city, designed by the French, is filled with with long, wide avenues of magnificent buildings.
Some areas of Phnom Penh, like the Cantonese quarter, bear reminders of a tragic period of the city’s past: that of the Khmer Rouge.
Today, Phnom Penh is a lively and diverse city, characterised by its unique culture, history and traditions.

Cambodia is an affordable country to visit. I visited in September 2018, during the end of raining season. I bought the 3 days pass, to skip the lines. The compound is huge, it needs time to discover. The tropical heat made you take breaks between each temples. A Tuktuk taxi was around $20 for 3 between Siam reap to Angkor Watt. Im most impressed by Angkor Watt and Baiyun temple with all the different Buddha faces.
Phom phen is traffic jam anytime, anywhere, i remember the bus between siam reap and phom phen was around 8 hours, very affordable. The royal palace was actually small, no drone at any sites. Visitors must cover their shoulder and mid thighs in order to enter the temples and the royal palace. I just wish the dance in the end had the Khmer music instead of what was played

I’m very impressed by our Khmer Empire histories. Khmer Empire were powerful and it’s heavily influencial Civilization. Khmer Empire were a massive territories that expanded to half part of South East Asia mainland and the lower Bassin of Burma.
Khmer Empire were somehow been raided and sack its Kindom oftentimes and on many level of attacked from rival neighbors countries these factors that slowly cause the downfall of Khmer Empire.
Later King Norodom knows the rivals neighbor intentions he’s sought the help from France to become a Protectorate country. Protectorate it’s a state or a larger and. Stronger country . France settle he’s administration in 1863. France protect Cambodia from keeping swallowing up by Thai nation. Nowadays 19 Khmers outlying provinces remain in Thai possession. 2 1 Khmer outlying provinces remains in Vietnam possessions .

Good overview on the history of Phnom Penh, but I wished the narrator would try harder to pronounce even just half of the Khmer names properly. Like you're making a documentary about a country and culture but won't even bother learning the phonetics? Sis...

I visited Angkor Watt and phom phen in September 2018, it's not a damp. Have you personally been there or you judge Cambodia based on the media? Just respect every country, it's culture. and cuisine. It's what made them unique. Indochina countries are similar but it's exactly the same, do not compare which is better, especially do not compare it to the CCP.
