    Great watch. The calfskin strap rather than alligator is to compliment the steel case. Thierry Stern hinted in the PP magazine recently that a new range of calatravas would be in steel. You don’t need a suit to wear a modern day dress watch. A long sleeve shirt would suffice.

    It certainly does nothing for me in the shock and awe department, and at this price level I find that very odd. I don’t doubt that it is a masterpiece in watch engineering and it’s pedigree is undisputed but I honestly wouldn’t give it a second look. At the end of the day if it makes you feel happy Sir then that is all that matters. Thank you for sharing this rare opportunity to see another piece to your collection Sir 👍 Tam.

    I too noticed the font on dial at first look... all the characters and numbers on dial seem that they are handwritten and bear different font... this is what makes this watch unique, personalised and increases its snob value... BTW congrats for the new purchase... 👍 👌

  • @robertschmidt9584
    @robertschmidt9584 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The hand written font is what attracts me most to this radial weekly calendar. Exquisite and low key piece. The calfskin watchband can always be easily switched out. Jean Rousseau would be great to do so like LWC did with his Speedmaster.

    This video brings several comments to my mind :
    1) this Calatrava is a beautiful watch, I particularly love the fact the font on the dial is the actual handwriting of a Patek Philippe employee
    2) the watch is elegant, in a modern way and size, it doesn’t shout money like a Nautilus does. Perfect timepiece for Monday to Friday in the office
    3) not really sure about the week display though. When I have serious planning to do, nothing replaces a good old desk calendar, where you can point at dates and share with other people. Only time will tell if it makes sense
    4) the leather strap is fitted with quick release. If you don’t like it, change it.
    5) on a broader perspective. Sir, over the past years, you have bought a significant amount of high end watches, sometimes almost back to back. In two or three years, several will be due for a service. How will you deal with this ?
    Option one : given the size of your collection, each watch gets very little wrist time so you simply decide to skip the service
    Option two : you play the rules by the book, and bring every single piece back to the AD when maintenance time comes. Sharing the cost of this scenario would be useful for all watch geeks who aspire to own watches from Patek, AP, Rolex.

    Congrats on acquiring a great new watch. I was reading about this watch the other day and fell in love with that dial. Now I can watch it review. Made my day. A clean look will always be my favorite look.

  • @SHONUFF772
    @SHONUFF772 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I have the same issue- I LOVE Lange watches but I am NEVER in a suit and have no use for a dress watch. Definitely want the Odysseus one day though. Patek is class all the way - and for the few times you DO wear a suit- that’s the brand you want 100%. Beautiful piece congratulations. I understand the elegance of the plain dial Pateks but they are WAY overpriced for time only watches. This watch you bought earns its price with those complications.

    • @bighands69
      @bighands69 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A modern gentleman should wear a lounge suit more often maybe not a dinner jacket as that is very formal but most certainly a lounge suit.
      A dress watch can be worn with a long sleeve shirt or even a Jumper or dressy sweater. If you are wearing a nice casual jacket as well would be a good choice for a dress watch. A lot of modern sports watches like Rolex are also dress watches.

    That is beautiful, and for your first dress watch.. I'd say you hit it out of the park! I agree the strap buckle is not up to par for a $33k US watch. That should come with the deployment bracelet.

    Finally a serious dress watch in your collection. You need something different. The rolex sport watches are great but they are all similar and look the same. Congratulations on this watch. Keep it original and btw it does work with jeans and a shirt. You dont have to wear a suit to wear it. You got a stereotype on a dress watch. Thank you fof your upload. Love your channel..

    Ditch all your other watches and just wear this, it is elegance and style above anything else you have shown us. A lovely watch, your 'one' watch. I would be humbled to own this, people can nitpick on straps and buckles but these are minor and a change is easily remedied, if you wanted to. Gorgeous watch congratulations.

    • @inakimilton5460
      @inakimilton5460 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@utsavpaliwal99 yeah, for me also 36-38mm is the perfect size for a dress watch. Indeed I own a Nomos Metro neomatik which is 35 mm, and although doesn´t play in the same league as the saxonia, it is a great watch for the money, featuring a nice in-house movement and all the german watchmaking cgaracteristics (3/4 plate, glashutte stripes, heat-blued screws, minimalistik design...).

    • @tbprofile1295
      @tbprofile1295 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @utsavpaliwal99
      @utsavpaliwal99 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Iñaki Milton that nomos is great, its like a gateway to the saxonia, similarly crisp dial, respectably finished movement and with nomos the case size can be deceptive cause of the extended lugs, making even a 35 wear like a 38. Cheers mate!

    So did the AD choose this one for you?
    Its not a dress watch, nor a sports watch.
    The dial is busier than a london bus, and the strap and buckle are not dressy.
    And the way that date wheel colour is different to the dial is just difficult to look at.
    The watch is nice , but I can't see any dressy elements.
    I honestly think the reverso " originally sport now dress " watch will look perfect on you.

    For me it is a crossover watch somewhere in between a dress watch and a sports watch. In this regard it accomplishes very well. The only thing I dislike is the colour of the date, it shouldn’t be white but cream/ivory like the dial itself, and probably with the same font as the dial as well. I think the strap works well, not as sporty as rubber not as dressy as alligator. Maybe they could have come up with something more imaginative, but since I can’t myself how can I blame them? My personal Patek favorite is the 5196G because it for me stands as The Watch, but I can easily see why this is the right watch for you. Congratulations.

    It’s a shame that the look of the watch is ruined by a cheap looking strap and a pin buckle..

      ashutosh3 Agreed ... Maybe if the strap was a black textured alligator ...

      A strap is easy to change and can change the look of a watch completely.
      IMHO the original strap and buckle make this an under the radar watch. It's casual, it's steel. It doesn't scream "cut my arm off on the subway".
      Congrats on the great piece!

      @@xxxxare I would think that with patek pricing you would want the original strap to be nice and as you mentioned you can easily change the strap to make it look more under the radar.

      Beautiful watch! The best watch in your collection; subtle/class & can be worn with anything. Just my opinion (I love this style of watch). Cheers 🥂

    Absolutely beautiful. I agree with the need for a better strap and the clasp, feels like a missed opportunity.

    Whilst the strap isn’t to everyone’s liking I think the intention was to de-formalise the watch so yes it can be worn with a suit for business (without standing out like other Patek’s) but could also be worn with Jeans. Straps can always be changed :-)
