Been really getting into CEDH, you guys and this podcast have helped a lot with getting me into the mindset that leads to success in this format, Thanks!
reguarding the lotus petal interaction, I would have called a judge as you putting a lotus petal in play, would put that spell on the stack, then you pay costs, as thats how casting a spell works.
@wounded 17:09 : Positive - you dont have players go for low % plays, which kingmake a third player if they fail. Additionally, the risk for going Final Fortune is not high enough - go for FF, use 30 minutes to fizzle (which was your plan), draw due to time restriction.
Always a fan of wrecking you with t1 blind obedience effects 😂 but it’s fine bc deck didn’t do the thing at all rest of the day- rog Si did! But our record sits at 2-1 so I’ll see you in Kaos (maybe) so you can even the score 😂
Honestly our top 16 game was one of my favorite games ive played in a tournament (i was seat 3 najeela) I was in a really tough spot when he mindbreak trapped my swords (if you didnt snipe the intuition off gamble i wouldve 100% fought over it lol) since i had to use fierce on seat 1’s consult and i only had dispel for interaction at that point. My line of thinking was that now my intuition plan is in the bin, my dispel is my only thing potentially keeping me in the game so i have to go defensive now and grind draws off my 2/2 esper till i find another way out. It was a tough decision but i liked your insight since thats really what makes the difference in these games against good players.
You should only be able to concede at sorcery speed imo it just makes sense. I've seen someone scoop against a tivit with time sieve on the board instant speed and it fucked the tivit player over. Shit wasnt cool but he got away with it.
I think the concern of NBC Sisay having hands where you have a hand that is half one win condition half the other end up being a bit overblown- the only Sisay route exclusive cards in many of these lists are Derevi, Emiel, and cauldron. I find I'm very happy to just draw and cast Derevi since it immediately sets you up with a 5/5 Sisay and if you can tutor for the one ring g with Derevi in play, every Derevi trigger will draw n+1 cards.
Rant about draws: I would say draws are not the problem, but agreed upon draws are. In normal magic they almost never make sense and are super risky. In Pro Tour March of the Machine, I believe, Nathan Steuer and his teammate drew because they didn't want to destroy the good record they had and it screwed up their chances to get into top 8. There are also some other spots where draws make sense (gotten to a top 8 because of one in a local tournament once since my opponent thought it was good matchup for him), but most of often it is not something that would ever happen in a competitive environment. However, in Multiplier draws are broken. With only 1 of 4 players receiving points in most rounds the single point is huge. To adjust for that there would need be twice as many rounds of Swiss which is obviously impossible. Thus it feels to me like most tournaments just get decided within first couple of rounds. Win those and you can easily draw your way to the top with people who loose not really having a chance to come back since as they battle the winners of the first couple rounds get free points, so even if you win the same amount of games later in the tournament you have no chance. Especially in cEDH that is so terrible since the format can often be swingy and luck based. The only real solution is saying in the rules agreeing to a draw can only be done after time is called. Yes, players still can play cautiously but inevitably someone will assemble a great hand and board giving them the option to go for it at least giving the player who was paired up at the table a chance to come back. They will just be a participant of the game as normal not the archenemy to defeat to get that draw. I don’t know if this is a hot take, but I think politics and mind games should only be part of the game itself, not start before it. Just makes me feel uncomfortable for whatever reason.
In no world did I rush you. I literally said something like well now we wait for the slowest spell to resolve and starting having a seperate conversation with temu and kinnna player while you resolved it.
@ColorsAreACrutch hey, I get it gotta look better for your audience. I could upload the recording, but I'm I ain't sweating it. I just know to pretend you're muted if we ever play again
@@beatnikbreakfast3537 you are more than welcome to upload the recording and let people make their own decisions about it. I know what happened and am unconcerned by this.
Why would you want Sisay for clam chowder vs a more relevant 5c commander? Never understood this. Would rather 5c omnath or kennrith or Najeela, other than it might throw people off.
I am still a pretty firm believer that draws should be zero points for all players. I really don't like the optimal course for players being that we agree to draw after I win twice.
Definitely agree I handled the situation wrong. Honestly it caught me so off guard n I just got upset. People interacting for you all game got me 😂. But to be fair the yoriko player was getting the wishclaw there either way. I was just hoping you had more interaction to blow right in that moment.
I've got 3 kids, and wife that's a pediatrician. Sadly our our dog passed away in December. We both work a shit ton. The way I work it is every few months I'll sit down with her and go through the events that are available. I'll pick a couple and also INSIST that she plan something for herself where I'll take all the home responsibilities. At the end of the day we've got an understanding that I need to do the things that bring me joy, and we just have to work together to accommodate them and same for my wife. It ain't easy. -Max P
Yall didnt need to cake up talion. They got them chicken legs and its ok. Who all else is deatured on the mat. Cuz i see kinnan, talion, ob, florian, tymna, freedom waffle, and i think the jester is ian. The tusk on the left, chicken, dog person, and lizard i cant quite discern. Non character shout out to i assume blood moon and obviously bolas's citadel.
Defending points for draws yet being against instant speed conceding is backwards as fuck, you just said it was optimal to play towards a draw, its the same fucking shit. If playing towarda a draw is optimal, then conceding to the tivit declare is also optimal because it lets you play towards a draw in a lost game. If you are out of the game, getting the point by drawing is still undeserved as fuck, in general as you said before, you are getting points because of your opponents actions, not yours, which would also happen in every tie breaker hell. 5 for win helps out the math against IDd but isn’t a real fix.
It's a blurry line for sure. I think everyone has to draw for themselves where the line is for them. Personally I don't like spite pacts except in certain situations. Like the game is at time active player is trying to win. I feel fine with a pact in that situation since it's a sure draw and 1 point and you're never going to get to the place where you'd actually die to the pact trigger. But I'm not ok with someone using a Pact mid game just on the prayer that the game somehow ends in a draw later. I also think a concession is very different than a game action with actual cards. Regardless I think the way these new rules are written does a pretty solid job addressing the issue and we'll see a lot less "spite" concessions as a result. Thanks for watching! -Max P

I was at the boil and had someone concede at instant speed to stop my time sieve win ☺️ it’s trash I hate it

I think the only time I could have done something when someone else did was when he cast the HBH and evoked the endurance and I had drawn the rollick
❤❤❤
What if every single player ID every match? Not much of a game there

Can you coach me to have the free time to play in tournaments with four kids two dogs and a full time 55 hr a week job?
