  • Christmas time comes with so many traditional dishes, and Buńuelos are on the top of the list for me, it’s the perfect ending to any meal. Buñuelos are a quickly fried tortilla disk then sprinkled with a combination of cinnamon and sugar. Syrup is the perfect addition to the buñuelos, you can drizzle it or you can break your buñuelo apart then dunked in the delicious syrup made out of piloncillo (compressed brown cane sugar) and cloves, cinnamon, star anise, orange and lemon rind and water. I hope you give this delicious recipe a try. ❤️
As an AMAZON associate I profit from qualified purchases (affiliate)

Your way of portioning out the dough balls is a game changer, Rachel. I've never seen this method anywhere else. It absolutely assures that each bunuelos is the same size. Thank you!

Dearest Rachel…… I love your channel. You remind me so much of my long passed Mama…..y’all don’t look anything alike….. she was as Anglo you can get and couldn’t pronounce a Spanish word correctly if her life depended on it! But like you, she loved her husband, cooking good food, sewing, having guests, having a garden and a warm, comfortable home…..nothing pleased her more than pleasing her family and others. The way she would beam with love and pride when presenting a delicious dish to others is exactly the same. God bless you and Your Ron. ❤️
The younger generation of women could learn a lot from you.
I wish we lived next door to each other.

You are right Mrs Rachel every store in Arizona has them the best are from Food City it's a Mexican Grocery Store but any store that sells Goya foods will have the cone sugar. But I think home made are the best no matter what because you will need to get the ingredients for the syrup . You are probably the best Mexican Cook that I have found on line ❤️

My mom called these sweet tortillas. She would cook them on the placka for a few minutes then fry them.l guess being raised in California she didn’t cook Texan style. I must make these for my Amish neighbors. Yummy thank you so much.

Thank you for sharing your delicious recipes and cooking advice. I've never had bunuelos as light and flaky as the ones my Mom used to make, but yours look amazing. I remember Mom used to make a "tea" with the star anise and added that to the dough instead of plain water. She would also roll and stretch out the round discs until they were tissue paper thin then laid them out on kitchen towels to let them air out overnight. The next day she would fry them up and we'd eat them with the cinnamon sugar or sometimes just powdered sugar. You explain things so well it gives me the courage to try and make these on my own. God bless you and your Ron. ❤

My late mom (and other people I've seen) used to stretch them and hang them on the edge of the table and/or large bowls before frying them. I've helped with that task and it's quite time consuming. They come out very thin that way. I like your method. They're perfectly round and thicker, not to mention faster. Love it!

My mother made buñuelos every holiday season for us...and to sell. She would start taking orders in October and November; early December she would make about FIFTY dozen buñuelos! My grandmother and I were her assistants. I would help by taking the already rolled out buñuelo and stretching on my kitchen towel draped knee. One ingredient she used was tequesquite-it's a rock-like substance that is similar to baking soda. They were the VERY best! She didn't add syrup.
