I honestly thought we’d never see this video come out (I remember a community post about him saying he didn’t want to be pigeonholed into doing too many funk or metal covers), but I don’t think I’ve ever been more grateful for one of these covers as I am now.
I've been listening to this song for 30 years. I had no idea that it switched time signatures. As a drummer I've even played it live many times. I just learnt it by ear and never broke it down. I'm genuinely astounded!! Thanks for the video.
Killer cover!! But something to point out starting at 5:24. Cliff played the end of the riff on a C instead of C#, so instead of playing the 4th fret of the A string, play the 3rd instead (for beginners learning the song). It does sound weird since the guitars are playing C# as well, but it gives the riff a lot more tension and rings true to how it was originally played 🤘
Yeah, for people who naturally have good fine motor skills, moving the fingers fast enough might not be that hard, but maybe my fingers have just gotten slow lol. Guess I need to go to your mom’s house more often.
@@ash52852 I think it depends on the person. For some fingers are the struggle, for me fingers are the least difficult aspect. I fingerpick like mad, but my main problem is the chords, I just can't change them this fast WHILE fingerpicking, I usually end up with not touching a string fast enough or messing it up 😭😂
@@acayette lol I totally get you, like with me I’m really good at remembering and memorizing stuff, but my biggest weaknesses are slapping accurately without touching other strings and mostly being able to move my fingers fast enough in the right patterns without my head getting all frustrated and twisted up. What a great bassline! Metallica’s mixing often makes the bass too low to pick out, but this cover has it very audible of course. Love the work you put into your videos! If you ever get a chance to look at Ebin - Sublime, I’d love to hear you play that!
Funnily enough sometimes I swear the mixing in And Justice For All is thw same as the first three albums, the only difference being that Cliffs style of play, Rickenbacker clank, and loud fuzz/wah make it instantly fill any space left in the mix
This song is so good. I didnt even realize that I followed along for 36 minutes on .25 speed till it was done lol. Gonna speed it up soon enough since I think I got the rhythm and notes down.
2 month update: I can play relatively well at .75x with inconsistent practice. That progression up the E string always seems to trip me up tho, so I'm around .60x at that part playing it "perfectly".
@@metalheadphysicist uhhhhm. I did finally comeback to the song just now. I found a lot of other interesting pieces, but for this I can say I play relatively well at .85 speed. That progression up the E string still trips me up to this day, but I haven't practiced this song in a while. lol
Perfect tone and playing! However, one small mistake: at 5:24, Cliff actually played a C instead of a C# in the original song, creating a dissonant interval. I don’t blame you for mising it though, it’s hard to notice

Keeping up with that song the whe way through , I think is just as difficult as the actual playing itself. Or so it seems to me anyway.. 😁

Me too, maybe not my favorite Metallica song but definitely the most powerful and the lyrics are great.
5:01 I love this part, I love the harmony that the guitars and bass form, it's very epic.

You forget about the riff after the solo
You know when this man covers something, cliff would approve the tabs
And the tone
Oh yeah? You were friends with him? Or just have a weird parasocial relationship with a dead guy
