- It was just an innocent little nightstand, FREE on Facebook Marketplace...can I combine two of my passions, furniture and the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, to create a piece that references another world, while still being relevant in this one? Come with me on this Fantasy Fable as I take a boring, basic nightstand, and transform it into a Wandering Adventurer! Play with paint colors, toy with moss, and flee from dragons as we create a one-of-a-kind statement piece.

Can’t make French Provençal and Hobbits mesh in my head. Just doesn’t work for me. First time . I do however Love you and your fable concept. I absolutely loved the Hobbitt chest! Ooh the warm sunny color! The natural woodsy sides! The cool moss! I can picture it next to a bookcase, close enough to grab a book off the shelf while sitting in a soft pillowy reading chair accompanied by a tapestry hassock for some weary forest trodden feet!

Truth be told, I hit the 'thumbs up' on every fable as soon as you start talking! I'm not a yellow lover, but I do love that you show every part of your process. Well, highly creative and risk taking for sure. I tend to be more traditional in my style but I appreciate your adventure for this piece. You will have to work on the 24k canopy, king bedroom set for another adventure. LOL!

I think that technique of 24k canopy would be lovely for a miniature doll set. I think Drea would appreciate the sense of humor for the request. Tee hee. Maybe not?!?! I am sure you will find a lovely spot for the night stand. You will have to share where it ends up and how the moss lasts with dust and life that happens. Furniture takes a beating but the handles can be easily fixed.

An amazing transformation. As a kid I was fascinated by anything I could imagine being appropriated by fairys and tiny people. This piece of furniture was MADE to hide treasures! I think this would complete an imaginative child's secret place - perhaps the back of the bedroom closet?

I'm not a huge fan of yellow for my own decorating, but it's absolutely sunny and delightful.
I was a little unsure about the moss on the handles, but you nailed it! I just love the look of the aged metal nestled into that lovely green- like a bit of lost treasure found on a wooded path. And the contrast with the yellow makes it seem, somehow, more organic... if that makes sense.
In any case, well done!

I loved this fable; loved watching where your creative interpretation of the story took you!! I think you should have a sub-series in which you freely base makeovers on your favorite stories, like you did this one! AND/OR create a "challenge" and invite other YTers to imaginatively create a make over, all using the same story❣️

Well, shoot! I was hoping for the huge bedroom set! Black, cherry and 24 carat gold leaf! Ha! Really enjoyed everything! Tolkein was a wonderful fellow, friends with CS Lewis who helped him find God! His stories are filled with things of the Spirit!

i have used Slick Stick on a plastic storage unit and it really worked beautifully. I even chose to blend paints like a rainbow on it (to please grandkids). 4 years later, it's living in my garage and still holding up great. I like different things about different paint lines and find many lines work together just fine. I wasn't sure where you were going with the moss, but in my view, it worked with the wooden sides and the drawer pulls just fine, connecting everything together. I love the fun ways your artistic license takes you (and us!)

The drawer pull backing was really interesting and coordinated nicely with the drawer stencils.
This is getting me inspired to start personalizing furniture for my niece who is about to graduate university and may or may not be moving back in-so I will definitely start with pieces that are already here before I continue to collect more.

It's certainly a very creative makeover! Personally, I would have left out the dragons and the moss as it will shed on a carpet or floor. I loved the French blue you applied first. TFS!
I have an idea....when using the moss, hit it with a touch of Rustoleum clear spray paint. Perhaps that will hold the moss in place?

Yes! I think there is a way to lock it down somewhat - I was thinking of trying hairspray, someone else suggested a watered down glue spray - I think your suggestion is great too!
