I come and visit this every now and then to remind myself of what beauty humans are capable of...this is so sad and honest and yet somehow full of mischief. Thank you to whoever is in charge of Capital Children's Choir for making this brave choice. I want to believe there is a little boy or girl pounding out time in a GAP sweatshirt inside of all of us-- give them all a place to play!
I have watched this many times since it was first posted in 2013. Each time the one thing that really stands out to me is the emotion you can see in the young lady who solo's at 2:17. It's like the words she is singing really touch her heart. I hope she's okay.
To Wayne B--I thought the same at first that this song and the shake it out songs were too dark for young people to sing. But then I realized that young people suffer perhaps more through the darkness adults create in real life. And these 2 songs provide a release and a sharing of a way to control the emotions by singing them out, directing them by one's own force of control away from the rest of a day or night. These songs pull out the thorn and let healing begin. Anyway, that's what I think about it. Singing these in a large group also adds to the support of control.
Thank you Rachel Santesso for your outstanding work, and of course to all participants of the CCC. I wish there could by a DVD/BluRay with all clips recorded at Abbey Road Studios. What about Art/Prog Rock? Maybe from YES, Time And a Word?
I watched and listened to this video maybe 30 times before I realized the cyberman head piece was higher than usual and being worn by a lady I believe to be the teacher, Rachel Santesso. Tell me I'm right and what prize I might have won, please. :)
That girl in the grey jumper got way up there! Wow. I wonder if the Spaceman himself has seen this. That boy at 3:40 - I think that song just made him a future rocker. Oh yes, once you see him full body, that's a band leader just waiting to explode on the world.
"So Long You Pretty Thing" If you feel lonely and the world's against you take the long way home past the scary Jesus and you'll find my door with your name in diamonds and you'll feel lonely no more Help me lord help me Jesus 'Cause I'm lonely and tired Help me lord it ain't easy 'Cause I'm living with the blind I got no reason to believe in anything Help me lord help Jesus 'Cause I'm hurting inside Help me lord it ain't easy 'Cause I'm living a lie and god I'm hoping for a reason to be here Help me lord help me father 'Cause I'm losing my mind Help me lord its getting harder 'Cause I'm losing all the time I got no reason to believe in anymore Help me lord help me father 'Cause I wasted all my time Help me lord it's getting harder 'Cause I've made a mess of mine and god I'm hoping for the reason to be clear So long you pretty thing save your little soul The music that you played so hard on your radio All your dreams and diamond rings and all that rock and roll can bring you So long, so long
How beautifully poignant. Such sombre grown up lyrics sung by young children. It shouldn't work - but it does at least from an audio perspective. Hats off to the arranger and orchestrator Rachel Santesso - it is indeed a wonderful tribute to Jason and his band Spiritualized as well as another in the great long line of Abbey Road recordings.
Why is there a cybermen-head watching the little girl play the piano? And another one on the desk? You're making me warch all the videos carefully for more references :) Do you use the headphones to hide your EarPods?
Thank you for playing it for your kids! It's not JSpaceman on guitar. It's a frontman from a different band... there are a few hidden things throughout the video.
+capitalchoir It their taste for music not my influence ;-) my older kid seems to love J Spaceman work, my young daugher seems to love your work! the combination works well on both.
Wayne B...look up the band, or the songwriter Jason Pierce. You've jumped to the wrong conclusion. This song isn't about religion at all. For some people it might be, but not for those who know the band.

Thank you Rachel Santesso for your outstanding work, and of course to all participants of the CCC. I wish there could by a DVD/BluRay with all clips recorded at Abbey Road Studios. What about Art/Prog Rock? Maybe from YES, Time And a Word?

"So Long You Pretty Thing"
If you feel lonely
and the world's against you
take the long way home
past the scary Jesus
and you'll find
my door with your name in diamonds
and you'll feel lonely
no more
Help me lord help me Jesus
'Cause I'm lonely and tired
Help me lord it ain't easy
'Cause I'm living with the blind
I got no reason to believe in anything
Help me lord help Jesus
'Cause I'm hurting inside
Help me lord it ain't easy
'Cause I'm living a lie
and god I'm hoping for a reason to be here
Help me lord help me father
'Cause I'm losing my mind
Help me lord its getting harder
'Cause I'm losing all the time
I got no reason to believe in anymore
Help me lord help me father
'Cause I wasted all my time
Help me lord it's getting harder
'Cause I've made a mess of mine
and god I'm hoping for the reason to be clear
So long you pretty thing
save your little soul
The music that you played so hard
on your radio
All your dreams and diamond rings
and all that rock and roll can bring you
So long, so long
Perfect
