It has been measured at the driver's headrest. It's linear down to 25Hz and measures above 135dB, then slightly rises, 139dB between 17-20Hz. Yes, these are not high for an SPL freak, but for an SQ setup this is more than enough. The strange thing is that it feels different than any other boxed sub making the same figures, as in this case the subs are part of the chassis (literally lifts the car) plus all the air movement is created purely by the cones, so feels more windy.
Pssound im obsessed with this IB setup and am going to attempt something similar with my next build, i know it can go crazy low, but how high can it play?
That sub setup looks so cool, an alternative to doing an infinite baffle with the back seat - I really want to try this, but I don't think I possess the balls to cut a huge hole in my car and build that solid mounting apparatus. That's crazy cool though!
I think you know by now that I love unique. Something different that will be talked about for a while. That's why I'm so attracted to your system. It's a fun system. I don't think a lot of people associate the word fun with the words sound quality and then throw in an enthusiastic person like you. But like you said, your real name is Richard Head (remember what name is given for Richard for short LOL)!Thank you for your videos. Your commentary and explanations are spot-on and will keep us all waiting for the next one!
Thanks Justin! There are definitely many “special” elements in this car and it’s not even finished! 😃 I’m gonna try to break everything down and make separate videos. 😉
dude that is so awesome so someone could call you a dickhead and you could be like yeah thats my name . i can actually imagine the look on their face when you prove that it is in fact true
great build - totally sold on IB sound quality ... I have the Stereo Integrity IB24 in my media room and it not only gets down in the low teens but does so with authority....
It is awesome your research of new frontiers for loading the sub, like this in the video. Very appreciated I would only be afraid to leave the car open below (basically it remains "open" even if you use tue special moquette). What happens if you meet a deep puddle to the integrity of the subwoofers?
Awesome setup. I'm about to install a pair of SBP15's on a trubk baffle behind the rear seats. I seriously considered doing the SI IB24 in the spare tire well. But I heard of some issues related to dramatic frequency response changes under variation of driving speeds due to the backpressure on the woofer related to turbulence under the car. Did you notice anything like this with this install?
Hehe. It seemed fairly far fetched to me as well. Glad to hear it. I love your build. I really like the idea of using the entire car as the enclosure instead of just the trunk. No more worrying about 1xVas vs 10xVas, just stick as much as you can fit into the wheel well. I was literally just about to start construction on my trunk baffle, but now I'm seriously considering switching to a build similar to yours. I'm currently running midbass as a pair of 6.5 free air in the doors, with plans to move to 8" free air in the kicks, vented outdoors into the fender area. This car is a 2003 BMW 330i and my daily driver so my main concerns are: (A) Moisture. I drive in the rain quite a bit here in Northern California winters, and the car is parked outdoors as well nearly all the time. (B) Noise outside the vehicle. Is it significantly louder outside the vehicle with this type of IB install than say a typical high output enclosure inside the trunk? Or a traditional trunk baffle IB? At low, moderate and rocking volumes? I live in a residential area. (C) And of lesser concern... how does it sound with the windows rolled down? I know it's a SQ nightmare to rock out with the windows down, but I still like to do it pretty regularly. I imagine it's hardly noticable when your flying down the road, but when at a stop is there a lot of cancellation going on with the front windows down? (1) Does it measure poorly with the front windows down? (2) Do you drive with the windows down and still enjoy listening to music? Thanks so much replying and for posting all your builds and informative videos. Fantastic stuff!!! Subscribed!
Okay, let’s do it quickly! :D A: there are few videos when i show my moisture protection, check the other videos out please. In the last 2 months my manifold has been completely open to the elements and it’s winter here in UK, so definitely more than enough rain and not a single issue. How is that possible? Just think about the general rules of physics, point moving and the way how tyres work...no moisture is directed under the car and up into the manifold! I should probably mount a GoPro there and record it on the road! :D B: noise: well, a bit of road noise can come through the cones of the subs, but i can leave with it! The rest of the car is dead silent, so it’s acceptable. To the outside it’s amazingly quiet, however, i only play my rear subs under 35Hz, where it’s very different to excite the airspace inside the cabin as opposed to the outside infinite space, so it’s pretty loud on the low lows inside, but nothing crazy outside on the levels i play. Boxes booming in the 40-60Hz range can be heard from miles. If you worry about neighbours, just turn it down 5mins away from your home. 😉 C: when you drop the windows, you effectively tune the car (which is a sealed box when windows are up) to a lower tuned ported box and wind becomes more present created by the subs. In another video i showed that with my missus! 😃 What it’s like with windows down at high speed...i’m not sure, my windows are up and i listen to music like in a studio, no street bassing anymore!
I'm not sure what difference it would make, but I would think you would have the motor side of the sub on the other side from you. I've used IB in a car with a walled-off trunk and hung off the rear deck.
CaseAgainstFaith1 It really doesn’t matter which way the motor is facing. In this case though with a manifold like this you have no other option as there’s no depth to turn the speaker around.
Hey I know this vid is old but I'm curious if you have any experience with the SBP subs which are supposed to be the successor to the IBAU. I'm trying to decide between the two!
Hi Kyler! SPB range has slightly different specs rather suited for trunk baffle application. Also, i think you can’t get IBAU subs now due to production issue, but have a word with John.
They don’t work if the tailgate is open. If everything is shut, you sit inside of the “box”. By dropping windows you can turn your sealed box into ported as such and gain even more dBs under 20Hz.
its amazing there is no mech noise at all even with such high movement :-) love it
Joshua Corley especially these AE subs are very silent!

🔴 How does this kind of setup affect the ohm load of the subwoofers❓

magic can happen !

That’s just mythos, unless you have a Ferrari with 2” between the chassis and the ground. I don’t notice any difference when i drive.

I want to hear it in person SO BAD!!!!
Hi Salvatore! Where do you live?
Pssound New Mexico (A State In The United States)
Uhh, well, you may have to fly to UK or the car to US then! :D
Pssound hahha. I Figured.
Hi! The mirror movemennt can be in series connection or parallel? Is it same work for the subs in shelf of sedan?
Amazing! I watch this video on repeat! :)
will an IB set up work in a sedan if the sub if fired into back seat? With the trunk sealed off from the rest? Or mounted on to the rear deck?
TheMizarc1 That’s called trunk baffle. Watch these videos:
th-cam.com/video/2OMm6PEMurQ/w-d-xo.html
I’m assuming that you don’t need as much power to run a subwoofer infinite baffle as opposed to sealed or ported ?
excellent stuff pete xx

Hey I wanna do a Honda Accord coupe IB. Will it work as well in my car?
Why wouldn’t it?
nice.. eye like.. me like.
Question how does this play compare to a normal tune box ?
Derelle Prescott effortlessly and digs an octave lower using a fraction of the power.
More videos of different music please!

@@pssound9749 Makes sense. Thanks for the quick reply! I'm probably going to go with a single 15".
Love the videos by the way
i wish i could learn from you and work with you sir
What is the price for subs
Check them out on www.aespeakers.com
So they wont work if ur window is down?
