You never seem to let anything beat you. You try, you learn and your attitude to all your maintenance challenges is to be admired as you don’t give up. You certainly are not dumb, so don’t be so hard on yourself. Amazing the money you save by your hard work and ability to source, tools, materials and help. Well done May on your financial awareness to maintain the lifestyle you clearly love. Really interesting Thank You May
As you would say in Blighty…..brilliant. Self actualized, comfortable with self, thirst for knowledge. All sterling qualities. Remember, there is no learning without making errors. Trick is to not repeat them. Obviously I do not know you other than y-tube, yet I feel like I have a good measure of you. Positive synergy is a big part of “what” you are, which contributes to “who” you are.
Thanks for the heads-up. I admire your ‘can do’ approach to tasks which might appear quite daunting if you haven’t done them before. Have a great week.
Long boat living does look very appealing. However I live in the far Australian outback so we don’t have rivers/canals for boat living. A lot of aussies are venturing into vanliving or tiny home living, for a more affordable way of living. Having a friend that’s a mechanic/welder is great. You’ve definitely saved big money with his offer of help. I’ve often wondered being in a flat bottomed boat, do you get a lot of coldness coming through the flooring during winter. Blessings to you & take care 😊
It will get better as you complete all your DIY jobs.....and the loan will eventually be paid off. I've been through the same pain with my boat.....but all part of ownership, look after the boat and the boat looks after you. keep smiling👍
I'm glad you were able to spend time enjoying the good weather during the summer. It's not surprising though how much money you spent even doing the work yourself and adding them to your monthly costs
Hello may mick from Hull really enjoyed this episode and you are doing a great job and keep your episodes coming I will look forward to your next one xx😊😊😊
Great videos May. A cheap suggestion which could help with condensation on the windows, try bubblewrap, with fairly large bubbles As condensation develops lay the wrap on the windows and it will hold onto the glass, the worst of the condensation should be gone, try it on one window first to check if this hack works on a narrow boat.
Look up 'Lifes Too Short' who used it on their tiny campervan. Also might I suggest a video on your WiFi set-up which is less than half my brick and mortar WiFi.
I'm sure it will be worth it once it's done. And you be able to enjoy the boat. Stay warm I the next coming months. It's always nice to see your videos
Yea I’ve spent a small fortune on my boat it’s a never ending list tbh 2 years ago had my 40 ft home lifted out had the hull shot blasted and then 2 packed even the base plate was very expensive but alls good now for at least 10 years I don’t think my list of things to do will ever end but worth every penny Thanks for ur fab vid as always ❎
why don't you use a 2 pack epoxy treatment for the blacking which will give a longer longevity between drydocking. Ben and Emily did that for their boat.may cost more but you will save in the long run.
2 packs the worst ya can put on ya hull ! It's only good if you don't intend to do much cruising. One small scrape leads to a bubble rapidly !! If you have the money ya best off using zinc based paints ... But if your on a budget but have plenty of time on ya hands then bitumen is the answer ( that's pure bitumen ) , the stuff ya trowel on ...or if you havnt much time then run of the mill bitumen , the stuff ya roll on ..
Hi, May, you mentioned Chainsaw for your logs, also special boots, trousers, gloves , goggles, helmet, all comes to large amounts of monies, go on line you'll see the cordless 6 " hand held chain saws, like pruning shears, use with one hand, hold branch with other, secondhand £25 /£50, 3rd of price for large chainsaw, etc, ? Great savings also Travis Perkins are cheapest by far, for your odds and sods ? Your a Lucky lady doing what your doing. Regards
There's nothing wrong with wanting to enjoy the summer a bit. We need sunlight as much as food and drink. It has to be said that this summer was not exactly brilliant. The new skills learnt will be useful in the future. A big shout out fro George as I think he's a great help to you as he seems to be willing to help anytime. For future reference most of the things bought from B&Q are quite a bit cheaper at Wickes.
That thing about boats you can spend a lot money on getting somebody else to do all the little jobs (windows and blacking) or you can spend a little bit of money on materials (minus many rivets) but learn a lot.
Am i correct in thinking your window quote was for double glazed units? If so you haven't saved anything as you've just re-fitted your old single glazed ones, which cost you in sealants and a lot of rivits!!
As always, everything depends on how you look at the situation. I'm annoyingly positive so I did save over 3K thank you very much. *sticks out tongue 😉

😃😃😍Well done. You have done many things yourself with great effort. Don't keep the money you have saved in the boat... because the thieves know that you have savings now. The best place to keep the money saved is inside the pillow. Or in the bank...😃😀❤❤
I'd love to have a narrow boat & get away from my concrete house, but i have a garage full of tools hobbyist items & 2 motorbikes, a couple of friends live nearby & my mum roasts too. I could sell my house & purchase a narrow boat but it does appear to require more maintaining than a house, plus i dont think i could cope with too much isolation. Tranquillity & nature are great & we all need it & i find it theraputic. Going to work for customers could be challenging too ( plumber). Perhaps a wee flat And a narrow boat !!! 🤔
great Video MAY...keep up the good work...now wondering if I could live on a narrowboat, with my Social Security Check from the USA, and a Teamsters retirement check...Total income would be around $2300 a month...wonder what that translates into British Pounds??? Wonder is there is Visa costs, since U.S Citizen...???
I'm not surprised they quoted you 2.6k for windows when you are giving them measurements in the order of 8.9 meters (8900mm) by 5.9 meters (5900mm) for one window. Bearing in mind a 62ft boat is roughly 18 meters long. you have 1 window there nearly half the length and three times the height of the boat... Nice job on the painting though looks smart in the bow now 👍
Well done on making another interesting well edited video ( do you write a script first or just talk straight to camera ? ). It’s a bit scary when you stop and workout how much everything cost , especially when you’re self employed. 😊
Hi May. Very interesting stuff and well done for having a go! Just one question. What internet do you use and would it work in a house (2 questions - oops)? Ps. Love the spec's? New?( Oops 3)! 😁
hi may im in the double glazing trade and it is shocking some of the quotes i see people get charged. your windows maybe 100 each, one of my customers actually does narrowboats in the leicester area
@@wellbeingonwater hi i think people just have no idea of the real cost 23 years in the trade and still surprises me when i see quotes from the big companies ,if u ever make it up to north of leicester (sileby / barrow on soar) area post something and ill give u a contact, not me its a friend who lives on a marina and does windows n doors for a living
Interesting insights on the financial side! I don't want to spoil the fun but.... you don't actually have double glazing now so that comparison doesn't really hold. Doesn't make the video any less interesting though:)
Another great video, not long left on the loan! What a great feeling that will be once fully paid! Basically mortgage free!

Living in Pennsylvania I did not know anything about the stores you talked about and what they sell.
Ahh well they are all hardware stores
@@wellbeingonwater so kind of like Lowes or home depot, do you have those there.

Depends on the issue with them but maybe look into car door seals for your side door?
Hmmm yes
You could get them from a scrapyard.

Hi May,
Indeed, doing the job yourself will save you a lot of money.
Indeed it does

Yeah you could do it!
May, your expenses are far less than living ashore. Well done!
Not bad ey!
40 quid for rivets .how many did you use? I brought 500 sealed rivets ( so they dont allow water thoigh) to do 5 river cruiser windows for 40 !

Thanks!! I figured out the costs, had a rough plan on the order in the story and just go for it! It can be scary yeah!
I think that price for your windows is quite reasonable. Good job you don’t live here in France s you might end up paying that price for two windows.
Agreed!
I would be interested in seeing a chainsaw review of the battery powered variety ,Thanks for the breakdown of annual costs 👍
Great suggestion! Just need a battery powered chainsaw now!
