    I've recently discovered your channel (by your successful hacking of the youtube algorithm) and have binged pretty much every video. It's so fun learning from someone who is passionate about their field! I'm gaining such a new appreciation for goldsmithing, and love to see the care you pour into each project -- thank you sharing your craft with us!
    But also just have to add -- every time I see that contraption you use to flatten a piece of gold, I automatically think "ahhh yes, the metal pasta maker."

    The most beautiful setting IMO. I have had almost every stone in a bezel or half bezel. It also makes your stone look bigger than it is.

    Hi there, great to see gold fabrication. Thanks for showing this. I have a question: Is it ok for the pendant to have space between the bezel and the stone? Does dirt get stuck in there? Up by the bail, it looked a bit open. Maybe because gold is so much harder it's not a problem. I'm learning so please indulge a query if you can!! Thanks.

    Awesome video! What kind of white rotary disk is that being used on the edge of the bezel to clean it up?

    Awesome video sir. Question: How do you collect the shaving pieces of metal from your workstation? I assume they can be melted down and hold enough value to do so. Is it just a simple vacuum up procedure? Thanks.

    • @moderngoldsmith
      @moderngoldsmith  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jesse James thanks Jesse. If the scrap metal is big enough it is simply recycled and melted back down, but for all the dust I do sweep and vacuum that up. I usually have the dust refined once a year after it has built up a bit.

    Do you ever create pendant settings for Australian Black Opals or Andamooka Gem Matrix Opals? They are comparatively soft and heat sensitive compared to the semi-precious stone in this video. Thanks!

  • @andreameigs1261
    @andreameigs1261 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What kind of cutters are you using? My flush wire cutters just smash the ends of the wire. They still have to be filed.

    • @andreameigs1261
      @andreameigs1261 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean cutters for the bezel wire.

    Bezel set is my favorite. I have a ring that I need the stone replaced in though, and can’t find a jeweler in my area that will do it. They say they can’t take the stone out that’s in it now without ruining the ring ☹️

    Ok, you’ll start from scratch pouring your own ingot of gold to make a bezel (very cool by the way!) when most people would just buy a strip of bezel wire, but for the royal wedding band (with rubies added) you cast a plain band? Why cast a plain band?

    Whenever I see your videos I'm inspired to become a Goldsmiths, the problem though is that I am a goblin and will immediately desire to hoard all jewelry until I am a dragon. It's a big problem 😌😜
