i feel like its most fun to just drop the final relic under the dome and then just play it out to try and upgrade all your junk and then beat the final wave
There is an achievement for beating the final wave without the bomb, which I did manage to do 💪
It is, indeed, possible to beat the final wave on your own! If you kill all the enemies, the "You saved your dome" message appears, and the relic never activates. No difference other than missing the animation and a sense of achievement. IMO, it's worth it to do it at least once.
isn't there an achievement for this?
I would love to see the entire Maze map, at the end you can just max upgrade Laser/Dome to survive the waves and keep mining everything without taking back the relic
You only think Drillbert sucks because you take a totally un upgraded Drillbert and stick him in the lowest level, Drillbert sleeps after X hits (not blocks), meaning if you upgrade his drill power he chews through entire z levels easy. When you stick him in too deep a level instead he has to waste all his hits on 1 block, its exactly the same as if you said your own drill sucked just because you tried to use it with no upgrades way too deep.
I had a game with him once where I never even got past my own drill upgrade #2 because he did almos6t all the drilling and I just shuttled the resources to the base and he kept me fed 90% of the time. (He is probably still not great on maze just because his bane is solid walls, just like the lift.)
I was getting so sad by the end, I thought he was gona lose. He had so much resources mined and scattered around, but the video was ending, and there was no sign of relic anywhere. I'm glad he found it in the end, on the other hand I wanted to see how strong his dome would be if he spent that much resource on upgrades.
Yea totally would’ve loved to see him go a couple more days to just max buff his laser and drillbert
@@victor_e_dafeet8218 If he actually cared about getting carry strength he would've been able to do it but he avoided it like the plague after the first upgrade lol.
@@mitigamespro8757 I think he was avoiding carry strenght because when you have lift, its usally not needed, you can just drag resources to the lift, but the map layout kinda make me think that there would still be a straight down path, now I see the mistake but before this run I had never seen someone play a maze map, I don't know if he thought the same, but in my head his strat was OK. Now knowing a bit more about the map, I agree that carry capacity would have made a difference, lets see how he handles next runs.
@@UmATrinta Yep. To be fair with the assumption that there would be consideration for the lift (by having a straight down path all the time) I guess I understand why carry strength wouldn't be too important, I thought about it for a second as well but then as the video went on and on I was like "when is he getting the darned carry strength??" Lol.
But honestly Skoottie is one of those TH-camrs that plays good enough that it isn't frustrating. In plate up as well. Unlike some streamers I see lol (xQc for example).
@@mitigamespro8757 Yeah, his gameplay makes up for the error in judgment, and to be honest, i'm making a ton of assumptions, I haven't bought the game yet, and I'm new to watching it, we all are I guess.
And about other streamers, I totally agree. I watched NothernLion's stream yesterday, and I almost had a stroke HAHAHA. He put a video today that isn't a clip from stream, and he improved a lot, but Skoottie has been consistently good from the begining.

I would like to see a challenge where you bring drillbert from a previous run, and focus your drill upgrades on him instead of yourself.

I feel like optimal vein mining might actually ignore any resources that are below your current level, and instead waiting until you're on the row underneath to gather those resources. That way the floor of your tunnels are flat so you can maximise dragging.
Though, considering this only helps horizontally it may just be a strategy for when you have the lift to handle vertical ferrying
Maximizing resource dragging definitely seems like The Meta, especially when combined with the Lift.
Optimal strip mining, to ensure a win, is 1 row mined 3 rows unmined. Most iron deposits are 2+ rows high, so this maximizes Iron/sec, which is what really ensures a win.
This might be crazy but imo strip mining with 3 high rows of rock is the way to go. I don't think I've ever seen a deposit of squares that isn't at least two blocks high (besides the ones right at the beginning). So you won't miss those, same with relics. The only thing you might miss is a bit of water and cobalt which I think is a fine tradeoff for faster mining.
Also the drillbert slander is out of control. Just buy his first couple drill upgrades and he's insane. They're super cheap too.

You can take the lift orbs infinite (?) times by the way. That would help with your congestion issues.

Hahaha holy shit last video I made a comment about double wide paths not being necessary and this playthrough he lost so many resources on the single wide path. Welp guess I was way wrong lol.
