- In this episode of The Debrief, former 22 SAS Trooper Big Phil Campion speaks to Ian 'Dilksy' Dilkes.
Born in Leicester and a keen sportsman, Dilksy began to find trouble as a teenager, and realised the Army was his way out of that path. Nudged to join the Royal Engineers to ensure he learnt a trade, Ian completed his training as a bricklayer before completing P Company, and then his Parachute Regiment Jumps Course, and joining 9 Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers. His 24 year army career spanned 2 UN postings to Cyprus, a Kosovo deployment, 3 tours of Afghanistan & 1 Iraq tour. During his career, Dilksy made his way to MOD Chicksands and became part of the team that delivers Resistance To Interrogation training to the UK Special Forces & RAF Pilots, and developed the process by learning from previously captured hostages and personnel. Dilksy has appeared on 5 seasons of Channel 4's 'Who Dares Wins' programme as a key part of the interrogation team, and is also a serving Firefighter.
Dilksy is an ambassador for EFECTIV Nutrition, and is completing a 100 Mile charity walk to raise funds for Felix to enjoy a family holiday after a series of devastating medical & personal incidents.

My Dad did 22 years in the Army ( signals ) so needless to say a large part of my youth was spent in that environment, these shows are amazing it’s like opening up a toy chest , paras , sas , intelligence etc etc , really look forward to listening to this one :)

I'm ex Green Slime (Int corps) for 6 years and after that TAVR Artists (1980s). I was a RTI instructor at JSIW Ashford and Brecon in 1983 to 1985. Interesting guy who tells great stories..... loved this film. I always enjoy your work here. Thank you. 😊

I did pre para with 9 Sqn, one of the instructors was training for selection so it wasn’t easy. Bob Mathews was on my P Coy. This has brought back some great memories.
Brilliant interview. Ex RAF medic, left in 2008 after 29 years. He nailed the RAF EOD description 😂😂 The video has reminded me just how much I miss the banter. Great video 👍

Cracking job Big Phil!…we went to 9 Para as sprogs from Gib barracks to build an outside training area, the food in the cookhouse was Michelin star to us, we were used to civvi contractor food…big old birds dripping sweating into the beans, government cut backs etc!!…getting fragged to fook during B3 so you would just get shit tamped and look forward to your horror bag!
I worked on Kosovo doing remote sensing etc etc…those mass graves were an eye opener. Belter this mate, keep up the good work, REspect💯
Who took the "kitty" for the cook house lass dripping sweat into the food..... over her tash!!

Got a taste of the army as a civie kid back in 81/82 with operation Drake, in Wales & Germany with the royal tank regiment, loved the life and the experience. Still remember a PTI called Urcon, great memories. Interesting podcast, I’ll check out others. 👍

Mate, your podcasts are absolute comedy gold. I don't think they're as funny to non military listeners, but current and ex forces can see so much that resonates in the recollections. I was howling on the train to work!! As with everything, it's not so funny when you're in and doing it, but piss yourself laughing in retrospect!!
I wonder how many have the same outlook as me? I detested it sometimes when I was in, but happy to have some stories to tell in retrospect.
