While I think nobody will ever top Kapustin’s own performance/recording, this is really excellent. Sounds like hundreds of droplets of silver plocking and placking on delicate surfaces. Gorgeous stuff.
@@cliveguokapustin played like a machine, metronomically exact and sometimes without emotionality. I like that, but listening to an interpretation that breathes more ebb and flow into the music is fresh feeling
I just love how laid back and how he was really into it playing this. His ability to create color and character with such care for touch, I'm just speechless.
A very musical interpretation which stands out above all others on TH-cam. We are no longer listening to an often rushed technical study piece on a hammerklavier but a very refined concert stage quality presentation, on a concert quality instrument, highlighting the beautiful melody lines with beautiful dynamics shading and phrasing.
Awesome! Nobody will ever play this Kaputsin masterpiece better than this. Quite stunning. Kim is probably one of the very few pianists that could play Rachmaninoff's Etude Tableaux opus 39 #8 in D minor correctly, by bringing out all the exquisite inner voicings and melodic lines, which escape most pianists.
please please, rehearse all 8 Etudes and post them here! This is the BEST interpretation of the Pastorale I know of. And I have been comparing for more than three years - the time of my addiction to Kapustin! Yor playing is so light and poetical, whimsical and romantic, clear with full control over the technique.
Hey, I totally agree with you. This guy brings out the absolute BEST in this music. Can you recommend any other good recordings for someone almost finishing the Concert Etude no. 6 and beginning no. 1?
Thank you for introducing me to this wonderful composer! I'll have to listen to more, but you could build a reputation popularizing Kapustin. It's like a breeze carrying a Gershwin tune, your touch is perfect for this
I always love it when someone plays Kapustin, but this interpretation is quite exceptional. It is very airy and makes me think of an old farmhouse in the mountains with cattle in the fields nearby and a river passing beside it. Excellent job!
please please please put it on iTunes for purchase!! Of all the different interpretations, yours just hit the perfect balance of witty, humorous and delicate. I would very much want to listen to it on my phone everyday! Thank you so much for this heavenly music! (and thank you so much Kapustin!!)
I have played this piece, though not in years, but I know it well. It's extremely difficult and to get beyond the difficulties and capture its character as Ben Kim does here requires pianism, musicality and ears of the highest order. I love that he does exactly what Kapustin (RIP) asks for at the end -- just let it disappear. A rit would be lily gilding.
Really enjoyed this marvelous performance while getting to know the Pastoral better. Dynamic variety, musicality, precision, clarity and warmth are in abundance here. Your performance is a gift to all of us.
Lovely interpretation! Beautiful tone, tone-shading and phrasing, lively yet elegant, with fire-sparks where needed. My ultimate go-to classy feel good music!
This is absolutely insane. Really satisfying dynamics and precision. Great shirt, too.

i think he did the dynamics better than kapustin himself

I closed my eyes and listened to this one. I was drifting off to sleep and at the same time transported. It was surreal. I was …amazed.

This just exquisite playing. Ben Kim might consider playing all the Concert Etudes. He has a marvelous light touch.

This pianist is freakishly musical. Incredible clarity and articulation, too.

This is exactly the way this should be played. Bravo!
Lovely, clean performance! Thanks
The best performance by a mile

This is, hands down, my favorite performance of this, so so so good!
色々な方のpastoralを聴いてますが一言で言うなら優雅ですね♫他の人とは全くと言って良い程違うのを感じてKimさんの演奏もおしゃれで良いです!上品!
Your playing is exposed in that space and the phrasing specific, really beautiful playing
Lovely interpretation! Beautiful tone, tone-shading and phrasing, lively yet elegant, with fire-sparks where needed. My ultimate go-to classy feel good music!
Beautifully nuanced dynamics!
Keep coming back to listening for days now.. magical sound, so much love and care for the color and phrasing.. absolutelly in awe overhere ❤
Best performance of this piece!!
Absolutely perfect!
You just inspired me to go back to practising it. Beautiful playing :)
Really a great take on this lovely piece! Down do earth, low key, no excesses. Great!
You play amazingly, I really enjoyed this performance! 😀
Really fantastic performance. So much character and clarity while not giving up any of the virtuosity. Easily the best I've found so far.
thank you very much !!
I love his phrasing, dynamics and pedaling! What more could we ask for ?
So good
so! delicate performance !
멋져요!!
Fantastic Ben. What a talented pianist you are!!
Not only great fingers, but marvelous pedal work.
Incredible piece and pianist!
Really enticing, fun, sensual and sensitive. You listen so well...
Brilliant! Bravo!
Very well played, deserves more views.
Such a tricky piece done delightfully ✨
The beauty of a more classical interpretation. One thing I will say is a lot of the nuances have jazz feel just outside the beat. Interesting
What a beautiful interpretation! Directly added to my Playlist!
Excellent
Exquisite..!!!
i love your performance! so light, great dynamic contrast! i'm so excited to be preparing this for level 9 royal conservatory examination next year!!
Amazing.
That was amazing!!
He played this piece more towards the classical side, great rendition!
Супер молодец!Замечательно!
BRAVO!
the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Even better than earthbound's naming menu music
Idk why but I always associate the etudes with trains, especially this song, which feels like a calm journey through the countryside
Very wel played ! I don’t get why 5 people dislike it. Probably jealous
Soft❤
cooool~~!
I need to analyze this piece
bravooooooo
What brand are the clothes he's wearing?
I actually liked this tempo.
Ties with kapistins recording imo
omg thank you !!
Good performance but I don't understand why the camera isn't focused on ur hands most of the time...
Show us your hands dude
Great performance but awful camera work
