      Especially given the fact that they say that it is due to bad maintenance, that a break didn't work properly. The other wind turbines have successfully withstand the winds... I mean every machine is going to break if I don't maintain it properly...

    The good thing about all this is that the windmill, in it's out of control state mind you.
    Managed to quickly generate the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity that enabled the flux capacitor to start fluxing and therefore was able to travel into the future and get Marty home safely!
    You try generating 1.21 gigawatts of electricity without some plutonium or a bolt of lightning, it's not easy!

    • @ghost-fs7th
      @ghost-fs7th 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Idk why I've seen so many comments like this. Yes, people were aware it was malfunctioning, and yes, the public was "warned." But that doesn't change the fact that it failed without any clear indication of when it would break. It had been spinning out of control for hours. No one was sure when it would finally fall apart. So, it did break without an immediate warning.

    • @MessedUpBrainspike
      @MessedUpBrainspike 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ghost-fs7th Well I'm thinking like, what kind of "warning" were people expecting really? Of course it would happen like that without warning, not like the tower would announce its breakdown for some reason.

      Es física cuántica recuerda esto la caída no te mata solo la aceleración al suelo... es como esta aspa se partió en pedazos por que el aire que entraba al aspa era un limite permitido.
      Es como si tu cayeras de un metro no te pasa nada pero si caes de 10 metros te puedes lesionar pero si caes de 100 metros posiblemente te aras añicos.
      Por que estas generando fuerza hacia el suelo que ni ti cuerpo podría soportar.

      @Carnivorus it sounds like the narrator is saying "centrifical", but he's actually saying "centrifugal". while centripetal means "moving towards the center", centrifugal means "moving away from the center", so basically the centrifugal force of the blades spinning that fast essentially ripped it off

    • @carlsaganlives6086
      @carlsaganlives6086 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey everybody, there is no such word as 'centrifical'. Universally substituted for 'centrifugal' for some reason. That's the force in action here, and almost every other instance that folks make the common mistake. Pertaining to movement away from a central axis. Yep.

      It's just a pronunciation issue. For whatever reason, Americans pronounce it "sen TRIFF uh gull". My father, who was a British engineer, pronounced it "SEN trih FEW gull". Undoubtedly more "correct", but I've never heard an American pronounce it that way.

    Interesting failure mode. Makes for neat video. I bet its still less dangerous than Chernobyl or a major primary coolant leak, or a boiler explosion or an accidental coal pile or fuel fire. It's not like those don't happen in the progress of energy production.
    Also this points out the reason why these things are in rural or remote locations. It might make a mess of a field, but as long as there's nobody in the way - not much loss other than economic. The wind turbine can and will be replaced.

    @KevinByrne2 Power electronics probably failed for some reason. The blades are made from a composite material that has stronger tensile strength than steel. Probably a lot safer than steel being used as it is very light weight. My guess is that most of the debris that scattered outside the immediate vicinity of the turbine were carried by the wind.

      The point is that while it was clear that the windmill was spinning too fast, there was no indication immediately before the failure that it was in fact just about to fail.
      When a dam fails, for example, bits and pieces of it typically break off before the main failure. But in this case there was no such advance warning. The failure (indeed, it was an explosion) was sudden. Yes, everyone knew that if it was allowed to keep spinning at this excessive rate of speed, it would eventually fail, but no one could predict exactly when. It could've been 10 seconds earlier or later, or 10 _minutes_ earlier or later.

    Gottverdamit, when are they going to learn to use double systems that are crucial... Like a second set of brakes, or some sort of a system that is mounted on planes and rotates the blades in a way that doesn't allow them to catch wind anymore?

      Why the fuck are you replying to a 2 year old comment, again? Also, look it up, windmills are an old invention and are used for processing wheat, while wind turbines are a modern invention and generate electricity. They are two very different structures.

    • @akospetik729

      @@robloxgamer4121 I already said it: windmills and wind turbines are two separate kinds of structures that happen to be powered the same way with wind, but they have very different uses, and it's too fucking annoying how idiots keep mixing them up.
