    Now that you have tested this particular projectile to find its optimal velocity in a particular barrel liner, your next step should be to index your Superior Heavy barrel liner while shooting those projectiles at 935-940 ft/s.
    Here is how: Make a black dot on a large piece of white paper as your point of aim for this exercise and place it at 50 yards; now shoot a five shot group while aiming at the black dot; now remove your silencer and barrel shroud and threaded barrel liner retaining nut; then loosen the grub screw in the rear block that holds the barrel in place; now make a registration mark at the 12:00 o'clock position on the top of the barrel liner with a marker; now rotate your barrel liner to the 2:00 o'clock position; then tighten the grub screw in the rear block, replace the retaining nut and shroud and silencer; and now shoot another five shot group while aiming at a new black dot on the target paper. Now repeat this entire process so that you have groups at 50 yards with the barrel liner shooting at the 12:00, 2:00, 4:00, 6:00, 8:00, and 10:00 o'clock positions.
    I performed this procedure on my .30 cal Impact after determining the most accurate velocity for pellets and slugs both, and I saw groups that measured from several inches down to one group where every shot went exactly into the same hole! At this point I removed the silencer, shroud, and retaining nut one last time to make my final permanent registration mark on the barrel liner at top dead center with a carbon steel stylus and permanent marker. You will be surprised at not only the difference in your group sizes that were shot at different positions of the liner, but you will also be surprised at the difference in where the groups are located in relation to your aiming point...some will be high to the right, while others will be low to the left. Weird!
    Indexing your barrel liner can make a huge difference in your group size and in many cases finding the sweet spot will allow you to increase the velocity while retaining the same tight group size. With this FX X-Barrel System we have the unique opportunity to index our barrel liners to find the sweet spot where it shoots the best groups, and is then in fact properly "harmonically tuned". For those who may be skeptical of the advantages of barrel indexing I recommend you contact Anschutz in Ulm, Germany and ask them what is the difference in price and accuracy for one of their rifles where the barrel has been indexed by one of their top gunsmiths...they will make a believer out of you I am sure!
    All the best, Chuck

      Simple but over looked on these Rifles there is a good film from the FX Factory on TH-cam showing testing ! if the Barrel can not shoot 5 shots through a 5mm square it is rejected to be polished the speed is never altered and they seem to know a perfect speed and the perfect testing pellet So then just down to Barrel !!

    Excellent testing! Yes, it's a world of continuous testing in achieving best results for one's air rifle.
    But when you FINALLY start to see results on how your kit performs, it will completely hook you and YOU will never ever be able to leave this type of shooting!
    And if you are a perfectionist, it will double hook you!! :-) :-)
    There are so many variables though that it can get tricky. But much experience and hours on end will let you FINALLY see the light! That one special day you experienced great groups and everything flowed so well, where one could say it was almost magical... then tried to repeat and find your POI is off! Brain cells and start to ask the million and one questions to yourself, "why is it not shooting like the other day!? A bit more wind, Pellet weight fluctuation, dang, or maybe this new tin with a different machine "dye number" on it, the temperature change, dirty barrel, somehow the rifle got knocked, humidity, so yeah, I could list many more, but...
    We've all been there, and felt like crap, lost sleep thinking about it all, right?!
    Well the obvious is, all these and a million more variables would decrease if you start out with a good/great kit. I see that this gentleman in the video has a great kit, and besides him being a perfectionist. Because a good/great kit is a game changer. So if you love this sport, save up and spend some money on something decent. And with time, you'll get to where you want to be! :-) :-)
    Sir, thank for sharing this wonderful video. I will say this, I was on the edge of my seat watching you shoot after seeing the bi-pod legs were at the very end of the shooting bench!!!! :-) :-)
    Thought to myself, "oh no! "The FX Impact is going to take a dive"

    I also believe you should do this "barrel harmonics" test using a regular chronograph with nothing hanging on the end of your barrel, to see if it makes any difference or not.

    • @Airbuks
      @Airbuks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed the chronograph hanging on the barrel makes a difference, but it gave me a idea of the target velocity where the groups where the best . Then I took the chronograph of and fine tuned it using the valve travel knob . When I turned it 1/2 turn out it gave me the same accuracy.

    Great video showing the need for barrel harmonics but i have to wonder if the results would be the same without the chrono dangling on the end. From experience i have found a massive difference and only use the chrono to tell me the speed for each setting then get on to the harmonic tune with out it attached. The longer the barrel the greater the difference.

    • @Airbuks
      @Airbuks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thx for the support, you are right about the chronograph but I use it only to give me a lead on what speed works best . The chronograph makes a difference that’s true , but not so dat the lead FPS is far of . So once I have the potential FPS I fine tune it without the chronograph

    • @rockyourfaceoff2

      Try repeating the test with the chronograph never touching the barrel. I believe the results will be surprising and your velocity tune will be different.
      Use the valve adjuster to "very slow incrimints" slowly reduce the velocity till you have a a tight group. Maybe 5fps drop each test

      I place my Chronograph on a sand bag on the table to rest about 1 inch under the barrel, close to the tip, this allows me to fine tune without having to do double work. The chrony is also more accurate this way.

    As always good tests👍 . I have the same impac and also the 2 liner .... superior and Heavy and after testing, tuning etc I still think (it is my personal opinion) that these hybrids are a scam, in this case at 50m (I have tested and compared to 50m 80m 100m 125m with the King Heavy MK II and NSA 29.5GR and if they do not drop in price it is not worth buying) they had to enter with the proper tuning one within the other (group of max 1 cm) with the JSB King Heavy or MK II at that distance are 0.8cm groups and if we compare with another slug like the NSA the 29.5gr at 100m 3cm group and wait for the JSB and H&N slug to arrive🙈 ...... No one will buy these so dirty Hybrids anymore with tips not very well finished and I repeat they are above all very very expensive💰 .Regards

    What a good video, I have a question. I recently had an M3 and I am setting it up. It is true that when the M3 is well set up you should hear it clearly when the plenum fills with air or is it a myth? I ask you why I don't hear it and to be clear that I have to keep insisting on searching for those sounds or maybe it's not necessary.

      In the case of air rifles there is a harmonic barrel, but since the shock caused by firing is not a large component, such as a gun compared to air rifles, but on a smaller scale, I think the mass of the projectile is the most It is effective in balancing the twist rate and achieves the best accuracy at the most appropriate speed with good sf. Better get EDgun. No harmonic tuning is needed as the barrel is tensioned like a string.
