A FEW KEY DIFFERENCES, that's the understatement of the century GM engineers specify only 3 parts of the stingray carry over to the Z06 (hood, doors, trunk) the entire rest of the Z06 is completely different, it's basically the same as the racer..
I surely could have listed every change. I wanted to mention the main differences that would be glaring to the untrained eye. I would not call myself an expert, but I know plenty about both the Stingray and Z06. I love the feedback and criticism but it almost seems like you are intentionally looking for a debate when I would consider myself a relatively unbiased person when it comes to this topic.
I ran track with my C5 and I was not competitive until I upgraded the engine, suspension, brakes and tires. Although the Stingray is a nice car, I want a car made for the track, which is why I am in the order queue for a Z06 which will have the Z07 option, and it is at MSRP.
the z06 is not the car to get. It will be very limited and way out of range for the average joe. Most c8 owners at 40years old or older. Mid life crisis dudes just dumped their 401k to get a base stingray. Not a chance these boys are ready to go 120k+ for a z06.
While the past year and 12k miles in my c8 z51 has been great Im on the list for a z06 as well. Hard to say its a logical decision sometimes its just a decision based off of illogical reasons. Real world performance on the street even driven by enthusiasts the stingray is more than enough. I really never am able to outdrive the current stingray with its extreme performance levels. The interior cabin sound of the c8 z51 is so well isolated for a luxury ride with the top on you barely hear the exhaust as in previous generation corvettes where as the z06 is designed to rectify that very minimal short coming. Outsode the c8 with npp the level of exhaust sound on the stingray with npp is very cool. Inside the cabin with the roof on is slightly too well controlled by the engineers. Great for long distance cruising yet not exactly what I am used to after daily driving my new corvettes for the past 20 years and 250000 miles in all of them combined. The z06 looks to have the pretty widebody and some extra performance as well as a glorious swan song sound for internal combustion engines. 670 hp might be just too enticing to pass up on as well. JMO

I mean if I had the money I would definitely pick the Z06 over the stingray, however I don’t feel as if the drop off is very large between the two.
