  • Footage of Donnie Yen training Wing Chun with Ip Chun, Ip Man's son!
    After working his Chi Sao with Ip Chun, watch Donnie Yen training Wing Chun as Ip Man in the movies!
    So if you’re interested in seeing original footage of Donnie Yen training Wing Chun Chi Sao, this is it!
    Note that in the Ip Man 4 movie, Ip Man's son was referred to as Ip Jin. We believe this was a blending of his two son's names (Ip Chun and Ip Ching).

      Ip Chun remarked that Donnie Yen was extremely talented and a very fast learner. Not only was Donnie a remarkable martial artist, but a remarkable actor.
      Ip Chun also remarked that Donnie wasn't just interested in making Wing Chun look on screen, but was also able to show some of Ip Man's little quirks in his movements.
      Things like how Ip Man's forward hand bobs up and down a little in the WC ready stance, and him handicapping himself to 1 hand to play with his opponent half way through a sparring match. These were things the real Ip Man did according to Ip Chun, that Donnie Yen replicated on screen with his Wing Chun.
      Donnie is a remarkable man, with remarkable talent. Did you know he hails from quite a prestigious martial family? His mom is apparently a Tai Chi grandmaster of some renown.

    Martial arts is not only about combat but about appreciating life better. The time we spend with our masters is precious. They used to spend the same time with their masters and the legacy continues. It reminds us how life short is and precious, to be better people and respect each other more for the same reasons.

    God bless Ip Chun. He was born June 10, 1924, Ip Chun is 97 now, one year older than my grandfather (a World War 2 Veteran too) was born March 27, 1925.
    I like the story of his father Ip Man. Feeding a man in his home, the Japanese invaded and took his home loosing all material possessions (homeless) he remained happy and still loved his son and his wife, later defeating a Japanese General to unite Chinese together. Later then opening a School in Hong Kong city, not just for himself but for others, sacrificing his time to help others, and doing it for others, because his kindness believed in giving others a chance to learn. His father was a kind man that believed in humanity and individual has worth from within.
    Now Ip Chun continues the Wing Chun Kuen legacy going and keeping the tradition alive.
    This is so special and all worth the while.

    Just feeling someones energy by doing Chi Sao is tremendous.

    • @TheSeismosaurus
      @TheSeismosaurus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chi is move's intentions and how you breathe. These are teasings on what the opponent will do. Nothing to do with some mystical energy. We are in real life, not in a manga. And, before you ask : I'm a Judo coach and, in Japanese arts, it's called ki. A lot of people misunderstood that point and it leads some of them to think they can beat someone without touching him by using some magic power they call Chi (or ki). Never believe that or, when you'll have a real fight, it will be really hard to face the truth.

    • @jassimarsingh6505
      @jassimarsingh6505 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheSeismosaurus not entirely true, it’s not mystical energy, it is some type of heat in your body. You usually feel the chi in the hand when u join ur hands together and do some meditation breathe in and breathe out. I agree that the chi your talking is something different. Try the meditation for ur self and report back.

    • @TheSeismosaurus
      @TheSeismosaurus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jassimarsingh6505 I'm not going to debate on that but I'm already meditating daily. I started to do that approximatively 15 years ago. Not the buddhism thing but the parts that works well : concentration, breath control, reflexion and mental fight simulation.
      I'm not doing any mysticism. To me, "feeling" the ki is just auto-suggestion, not a real thing. If you want to feel it, you will, even if it doesn't exist. Brain is a great illusionnist.

    Good to see Donnie Yen trained hard for his role. Just remember that he is an actor who needed to prepare for a movie, and not a full time Wing Chun student. The legacy of Ip Man will continue on through his students and their students. Remember that Ip Man had many students beside his two sons. Also in practice, it was mostly Wong Sheung Leung who taught Bruce Lee since Ip Man was too old by the time Bruce joined the fold. Despite his prowess with the art, Bruce never finished learning Wing Chun either.

      Ip Man was roughly 60 when Bruce started up with him, I'd hardly call 60 too old to teach. Dont get me wrong its not young but most people are still pretty active at 60.

Add to that having studied with Master Ip Chun, and you have a martial artist with an amazing pedigree. Not even getting into who he studied with in his youth back in Beijing when he was young
