Burgess Shale Interpretive Hike - Yoho National Park

- The Burgess Shale is one of the worlds most significant fossil locations. Contained in Yoho National Park, these 500 million year-old fossils provide insight into life in the sea at that time and into the very nature of evolution.
Parks Canada interpreters lead day-long guided interpretive hikes to the two fossil locations in Yoho. Participants are introduced to the natural and cultural history of the area and will experience awe-inspiring views of a a variety of stunning mountain landscapes.
This video provides a snapshot of a hike to the fossil site called Walcott Quarry, showing participants starting their day, learning along the way, taking in magnificent scenery and exciting wildlife sightings and arriving at the most important fossil location in the world. Watch as visitors make their own discoveries as they pick up and examine these half a billion-year old creatures.

Ive heard this is the most guarded fossil site in the world .This fossil site is watched 24 hours a day . If you visit you have a pocket check after the visit .When no one is there it is under telescope surveillance by park staff !
Good video - I was curious about Burgess shale fossils because they're mentioned in a book I'm reading: The Smithsonian's History of America in 101 objects by Richard Kurin.
just recently discoved the Burgess shale is part of my ancestory. My ancestors arrived on boat in Ma. and traveled across the northern/mid United States ending up in northern Colorado and in to Canada there. I would love to visit some time even if it is just for the views.

1 There was a fossil forest park in the 30's in the USA .Because the entire fossil forest was stolen in a few years ....
Actually radiocarbon dating IS accurate on things we know the age of. Tree ring dating along takes us back over 12,000 years. They all agree within orders of magnitude with radiocarbon dating. Not the mention there are dozens of different types of radiometric dating, working on completely different mechanisms, that all converge. Not to mention cosmology. The stars you see at night are millions to billions of light years away from earth...How can we see them if the universe is 6000 years old?
