Hell of deep hole. Must be the area in the new property where the kitchen sink is going. Any reason you didn't use the expansive cracking agent in breaking up this bolder Dave when you discovered the fault zones.
I really liked the educational part on the "seam" rock geology, its effects on blasting plan, and your thought process on working out a solution. Also digging around the rock to limit vibration. Thanks Dave!
Happy new year, Dave. Oh no, hit with the poop stick on another job 😮 That looked like such a solid piece of rock too. Oh well, X-ray eyes are hard to come by! Thanks for another great video.
Oh yea, I love those clay seems to plug the bit. Look at the bright side, at least it told you there was a joint there. Another great vid by Dave, thank you!
Its not the kind of thing that most would consider precision engineering but there is a real science and art to what you do. A lot of experience and knowledge goes into blasting. Question have you always been a self employed boom boom or have you done mining work and the like? I reckon it would be really exciting if you didnt cover it ...the potential mess would be humongous thanks for sharing
Yes, there is a bit of art also involved, not always self employed, previously worked as specialist in radio comms. Plenty of uncovered shots on this channel, have a look through the road construction play list.
Happy new year Dave! I hope you had time with the people who matter to you, and I hope this year keeps you busy with interesting jobs and continued growth of your audience here!
I wonder if when you run into a large horizontal void like that you could drill the hole and put cracking goo down in the first layer up past the void and then blast the top part 24 hours later to keep from loosing blast pressure?
What are those yellow plastic clips? Are they delays? It would be so interesting with a video explaining what everything is and how everything goes together. =)
Great job Dave.... the seams... it's amazing how they can be helpful, but also your worst enemy sometimes. Your definitely taught that rock a lesson though, great job! Also... is that a new stick...i know you lost old faithful a while back!
Dave, do you have a video where you show the charges, detonators, fuses and delays? Also the bits that are left over on the surface, what do you do with them?
Happy New Year Dave. Hope you had a great time over the holidays. Here’s to a super new year with lots of business for you. Thanks for the great videos.
I blast dimensional stone in granite quarries and find it interesting to see how excavation/demo guys approach similar situations in more regulated jobsites
@demolitiondavedrillandblast for beds and downhole channeling I use black powder loads with primaflex tied together with b-line. Blk powder gives the 'push' i need to move larger sections up to 2000 tons away from the main bedrock shelves. I'll sometimes use primacord to fast split drilled blocks that contain too many seams. Forcite is my goto for demo/rubble. No caps, all electrical detonation.
Dave, been watching episodes of DangerTV and airport security in Australia. Do you have trouble if you fly getting through security? Handling explosives all day I would think you would set off their scanners or the dogs. Thanks for taking t8me to bring us to work with you.
I take a great deal of care Rich. That said, the dogs are very good and would probably ping me. The dogs indicated on one of my workers at LA airport a few years ago, they went right over him and found nothing, he explained the he worked with the stuff but did not have a license to show, they held him for 9 hours until it could be confirmed with Australian authorities
@@demolitiondavedrillandblast I guess the amount of regulations and the knowledge of Aussie authorities of who you are and who your workers are helps in that regard. Anyone else without governmental knowledge of who they are and what they do would be held much longer,..
@@alexandermarken7639I had a tradie mate who was using a nail gun (the type that uses a shell to drive the bullet) that ran into problems with airport security.
I know the basics of how hard the different rocks are from firt year uni geology and have known a few people who did demolitions in earthworks. What I am very unsure of is how hard it is to cut vs drill and demolish. What I am curious on is could a house site on a hill side be done with the rock being featured as the walls. would explosives allow enough control to preserve rock integrity or is it likely to fracture the walls in weird ways.
Hey Dave, Another great video, Thanks for sharing. That friend of mine I told you about with the Tornado Damage lives in Jimboomba. They got there power back after 9 days. Cara told me that there are folks still without power. Possibly up to amonth for some. Something I have noticed too, Is that you are picking up all of your Blasting wires now, Is this just what you are doing or is this a new rule from the goverment ? Again Dave thanks for the video.
Not really a requirement, it just keeps you from having to answer a lot of questions later from concerned citizens, or the Police, or some other public safety sector. Also just plain good housekeeping.
Dave talks about this in the video. It's to reduce noise and vibration in the ground, to avoid upsetting the neighbours. Packed soil transmits noise a lot better than loose soil.
yt has been 'forgetting' to notify me of your uploads. but thats alright. i remember my favourite channels. while on the subject of favourite channels, i replied to your "fancy meeting you here" post with a free book offer. if youre interested let me know otherwise i'll pass it on to another of his viewers.
Just an FYI... Here in the US, "Thanks for watching" is typically used to close out a video. It's VERY odd to hear it mid video. I'm forever checking as to whether I'm at the end of the video or not! 😳
There is a farmer in North Queensland, called the Queensland farmer here on YT, and he can use some truckloads of rocks for his spillways for his dams. If he has to buy rocks it costs him a lot of money. So if you are ever in that area and need to dump some rocks you can contact him. Or you might know some people who can help him out with a few truckloads of rocks. If you know some people who could help him let me know so that I can tell him about that.

Make boom, make rocks

Greetings to you also, from the land down under.
Merry New year Dave, your not on holiday like most other people?
Noticed in all the videos, you pick up and account for all the used cord from the holes. Is there a reason for this?
It is actually plastic signal tube, to leave it on the site would be littering and it is a regulation thing.
Nice job.
Thanks!
Howdy demo Dave
Why do you sometimes use respirator mask and sometimes you don’t? Is it the kind of rock you are drilling?
Nice!!!!!
Thanks!

There has been a lot of storm and flood damage in Aus. recently, I have to ensure that I recover as much of this waste as I am able Rich.
So does the rock go down without limit ?
Yes, pretty much.

That rock is shaped a little like a casket. I was a bit apprehensive how it would break !
Can save it and maybe can sell to a sculptor for a cityscape project..
