  • We are so excited to welcome our 8-week old chicks to our backyard flock. We got three hens: Barred or Plymouth Rock "Roxanne," Silver Laced Wyandotte "Wilma," and a Leghorn "Luanne." Meet them in this video and check out how I set the coop up for their arrival!

I start this video off by going over everything that I put in the coop to get it ready for the chickens! For their food, they are going on a starter/grower mix since they will be exactly 8 weeks old, which is when you can switch from starter to grower food. Generally speaking the higher protein the better but that is more expensive! Then they need the grit to help them digest and a calcium supplement to make firm eggshells. They do not need much of this and will only eat what they need so feel free to put a lot out! Lastly, I am going to add a vitamin supplement to their water for the first two days to ease the transition. I set this all up in the coop and then head out to go pick them up! We ended up with three hens: Barred or Plymouth Rock "Roxanne," Silver Laced Wyandotte "Wilma," and a Leghorn "Luanne." They are all 8 weeks old, subscribe to our channel to watch them grow up!
