While intensity is greater back then, pace today is definitely faster. If you disagree, you can calculate shots played per second now vs before. Today's badminton plays more shots per second but it's mainly due to there being so many dead balls/neutral shots whereas back then it was like every shot was played with the intent of making it difficult to return. Nowadays players would gladly give it flat and to the middle (easy to return) as long as it meant you didn't have a kill option (no angles to work with).
The way these two legends in badminton kept pushing the shuttle to the back, doing the variations, and deft net play and all at that intensity, it blows my mind. Badminton has never been more interesting to watch.
both of them were pretty young at the time, but the rally can go for many shots without mistake. and the shot angle and quality is also high too. amazing.
4:04 What a smash from LD. LCW's lift was good, but LD killed it anyway. Look at where LD's feet landed after hitting. He was completely outside of the court. Even Axelsen doesn't have many winning smashes from far back.
LD did jump backwards from the inner double service line and landed outside of the court. It was a very well placed sliced jump smash. Few will get their racket to this one. But the problem with the lift lies in the movement of LD's feet. Just look at them while LCW plays the lift. LD totally reads LCW like an open book. LCW serves that nice lift on a service platter to LD and LD takes his time and hammers it down on the line.
Maybe not the best, but unforced error wise it looks like a top contender. Very few errors have been made at the net and both players have kept the shuttle in the field pretty nicely. But those loose shots, long and wide, might have been edited out.
Their footwork, stamina and shuttle speed are beyond imagination. But you could also see that their shots were not as accurate as when they were older. At that time, it was all about power and speed for them because their bodies could handle it without any problem. Those two were truly beast when they were young. ❤
24-28 was considered as the high tension for racket (harder/tighter strings) it means, the tighter the string, the higher power can generate whilst smashing
because lindan had a very good defense too.. and lindan didn't give him many ball to attack too.. most of lindan shot are very unpredictable and hard to attack even if he lift.
2022 Axelsen and 2019 Momota can only dream of playing like this. rally at 12:26 is just out of this world. Classic example of Lee Chong Wei bottling a major final against LD, but then again this is LD and you could argue that there's no such thing as bottling it against him because when he wants to turn it on, he's unstoppable and mentally unflappable.
For axelsen I agree but momota and ginting in 2018 and 2019 were no less than this Of course ld and lcw are better and they transformed the game but momota had a really solid defense and a long rally style game only, axelsen's game is attack and win just like lzj, they can never match this level of gameplay but momota used to play like this only
It was because at that time, only the server can get a point. If you are a returner (in which was the case for LD there), you have to break the server's serve to get your serve(which gives you 0 point but in return, you gets to serve next), and only after you start your own serve and win it only then you get a point. In short, you only get a point during your own serve, not your opponent's.
@@everlasting4533 Its physically exhausting playing the old style, but it does make some really close games, since you'll never lose any points if you can keep re-breaking the opponent's serve
it doesnt matter because neither of those two players has or never had this kind of precision or stamina to play like this... this match is literally once in a lifetime match that we can get to witness... LD and LCW in this era are the top 2 without a single doubt! Nothing will ever compare to this tempo, skill and ART of that we call badminton!
LCW vs LD Asian Championship 2016 semifinal clearly a better match for me. Or the final LCW vs CL Asian Games Hiroshima 1994 final Joko Supriyanto vs Heryanto Arbie also one of the best MS match
Very bad intent from lee chong wei ...no smash only defence and rally never take u to the win anyway ..and lin continuously attack whenever opportunity comes .
This is prime LD, and no one has come close to this level of mastery. And if LD hadnt been there then LCW would have been the GOAT himself Makes 2020s badminton look amateurish.
@@KFP385 I personally think Gade is better but there's not much match-based evidence so it's an open question. It was also fairly weak era before LD. Taufik not exactly a strong champion.
Even in one blink, you lose all the excitement watching these two legends. What an era!!
This game’s intensity in 2006 is greater than games in 2023. That’s insane.
They were in their athletic primes.
跟球员有关(林丹lee chong wei实在是太强大了)
还有就是那个时代用的是快速球,而现在是慢球

Lol. If you can do half. You will be in world ranking already. 😁😁😁

LD and LCW back to their prime were beasts

The 2000's and the 2010's are the best

Lin Dan: The Beginning of a Legend

the best MS match in history?
Gosh, the pace they were going at it. Nowadays, we have Kodai Naraoka who keeps lobbing from both wings, putting the spectators to sleep.
clinical court usage , I felt tired just look at them play lol

its meaning?
